I mean Netflix has increased it's prices several times over the last few years. Gamepass was bound to start bumping in price, the amount of games they seem to get day 1, Bethesda purchase, etc.

Raise price of Gold Only membership... Keep Game Pass Ultimate price as is .... goal is to push all Gold Users to Game Pass Ultimate. The cost difference wont be huge side by side but the benefits going Game Pass Ultimate will stand out even more. End game goal get the vast majority switched over so you can easily absorb the hit when you cancel Gold and all remaining Gold users into GPU users. This is what my tinfoil hat, magic crystal eight-ball all tell me.

I mean Netflix has increased it's prices several times over the last few years. Gamepass was bound to start bumping in price, the amount of games they seem to get day 1, Bethesda purchase, etc.

$300 a year for a subscription service though? While it will have games you'll want to play, it won't ever have all, or even most.

What happens when other big publishers start locking their games behind similar subscription services? It could quickly become unfeasible to play all the games you want, because you'll be paying for all these subscriptions.

As someone who greatly prefers the Xbox ecosystem in general, this is a ridiculous price hike that I would personally be unwilling to pay. I had been considering letting GPU lapse and go back to Gold since I have a few years worth of 12 month cards stocked up. But if I didn't already have em there's zero chance I'd pay that much just for Gold. That's totally insane and makes me think it has to be fake or some kind of faked leak test balloon to see how people react.... I think the general reaction would be Fuck Off at that price.

The obvious play if this is true is to try to push everyone to Game Pass. But they may alienate more than they gain with such a dramatic increase.

I don't think it's real ( I hope it's not ) because I can't find a single one of those cards. I have 3 yrs of ultimate stacked already so I'm tho good lol

They were never going to make online gameplay free that's the only place they make any real money, MS is a services company and that's what XBLG is, a service. They could eliminate it and require you to buy into game pass at a higher price but they aren't making online play free.
