What did anyone expect? Right now its cheap because their studios hardly release anything.

Starting in 2022 they are going to release Avowed, Fable, Starfield, Doom Next and god knows how many other games into the service. Somethings gotta give at some point. It wouldn't surprise me if they split the GP catalogue into several different tiers later on.

I don't really care what they do. If their games are good, I'll keep subbing, If not, I'll cancel.

Or you know, juat buy the exclusives you want. People keep forgetting subs is not the only thing microsoft offers.

Microsoft's made fast work of changing my mind that they were doing a good job, heading into this new generation. I only occasionally jump in and out of console online and have no interest in the two companies' rental game schemes. This price increase on Microsoft's side for basic online is another big strike against wanting to rejoin their console ecosystem.

TBF Microsoft brought this upon themselves; does NO ONE there know that some of these media sites like to push perception agendas against them? Yet here they've played exactly into something allowing this type of stuff to happen. They've literally just "fed" the trolls of their own volition when they didn't have to.

"Effective today, all current and future Xbox Live Gold subscriptions until Fall 2021 will upgrade automatically to GamePass Ultimate, free of charge, for a single year's GamePass Ultimate subscription value.". In one fell swoop, could've signaled an end approaching for separate XBL Gold, AND give a perk for boosting new GPU subscriptions while transitioning all XBL Gold members to GPU.

If Microsoft actually cared, they would've done this. How do I know? Because they did something virtually exactly like this for upgrading Windows 7 and 8 users to Windows 10. So they can provide a pro-consumer transition for their massive OS, but can't be bothered to do the same for Xbox users? I think this reflects a bit more on how much (or in some cases how little) Xbox as a division seems to matter to Microsoft still...and yes I'm fully aware of the Zenimax acquisition etc., but that's specifically more towards Gamepass and Gamepass isn't just Xbox. I specify that for good reason.

No one is refuting the great deal that is gamepass ultimate, the issue is how they now are framing xbox game pass as being the better deal with forcing you to go that rout to essentially save money. It's similar to how they treated windows 10 upgrade, they were super aggressive to get people on that OS. Difference is windows 10 was free if you had windows 7. And still is if you have a valid windows 7 key.

I think my whole point is im not a scumbag. It's one thing if you live in a country where buying those services is difficult or you just dont have the money. But if you can pay, you should. Pirating use to be only for getting things in other countries that is not released there. Like back in the day it was used to get imports of music, software that certain countries didn't get releases for.

If you financially have the means, and your not being blocked by your country, then you have no excuse. There are third party sites though for business's i would not recommend you use, but if you buying for yourself or for a friend trying to build a PC, sites like Kinguin, cdkeys are totally fine.

But pirating just because your lazy, and dont want to pay is why we have DRM, among other harsher practices happening in software.

I've had PS+ since day 1 and don't play online. I really like the discounts and the "free" games. So far it's been worth it $60 per year.

I would definitely subscribe to a $99/y PS+ service if it would be like Game Pass.

Seems sort of foolish, but this isnt really big news for us existing owners on this board, for 99% of owners there is no price increase. For potential new buyers, this is a push to sign up for game pass instead of gold.

That said, this could backfire on potential new buyers who aren't wanting gamepass..... unless sony raises price of ps plus, it will push them there.

I know all they care about is locking everyone into GamePass. They are basically not letting it be optional if you have Xbox. The price hikes there will come too, but only after they are sure they've already "got ya".

I REALLY hope PlayStation Now doesn't ever go this route. I don’t want a bunch of mandatory subscriptions.

And, don't be fooled. GamePass IS mandatory. Gold is required to play online, even free-to-play games. Most single-player games even require an online connection for most of the game features. The always online mode MS tried to push in 2013 is here now.

They will just raise the price of Gold to match GamePass. Since you basically HAVE to have Gold, means you HAVE to subscribe to GamePass. It's incredibly scummy, but I get why they want to go this route. Getting hundreds of guaranteed dollars per player every year, is just too tempting for them to pass up.
