i think we are also seeing more 60fps right now because its the easiest way to make a "next gen version" of a crossgen game

we will see if the 60fps trend continues as we get true next gen titles, my guess is no. like i think next Uncharted or ND game will be 30fps with crazy visuals

We would've got way more games on PS4 gen at 60fps, but the cpu was extremely weak. Even ND tried so much for 60fps on Uc4 campaign, but only could deliver 60fps on UC4's MP. Next gen only games from Sony first party would be offer choices between 60fps or 30fps

Most cross gen games on PS4 were still only 30fps or kept the same fps as PS3. Assassin's creed 4, Watchdogs, GTA5, COD Ghost etc.

Here as they announced a 60fps patch for Watchdogs AFAIK all of the big cross-gen games have got their FPS doubled from PS4 to PS5 (except the sport games).

Point is simple, PS4/X1 and their mid gen upgrades have very weak cpus, thus seeing 60fps on every major AAA game was not possible. Going forward we will be seeing more 60fps offerings on next gen consoles (PS5 and XSX)

Yes, he rightly called a number of events and his summer game mess has been accurate.

He is also reporting on things that's subject to change, he could/should wait until he get confirmation but that's typically when we all get confirmation.

Called the Bethesda and AoE events before anyone that I saw

Really? I just remember him unable to accurately predict the day of the game reveals.

Oh also i remember him being wrong about PS5 performance problems. Wrong about MS buying Sega. Wrong about PS5 having yield issues vs Xbox.

Oh and who could forget (actually I did but came across it again) - Xbox live will be free! You Grubbed it here first! Lol.

I hate to blow my own trumpet - but I got more predictions right by using the power of my brain than he did with his inside contacts ... 🤷‍♂️

Maybe he got a lot of stuff right that no one noticed - like predicting the day of the week? To be honest if Jeff predicted it would be Friday today I’d still check my phone.

Perhaps he is almost as good as rolling a pair of dice. That’s something to aspire to now isn’t it?

Can you show me where he said the ps5 had yield issues? I saw him commenting about that news story from bloomberg and what it could mean if true but never definitively corroborating it.

I only remember Colt Eastwood, Chris Grannel and that Japanese journalist saying that. Don't remember Grubb saying it.

The crazy thing is the more time you spend playing at 60fps, the jankier 30fps feels. That sticks even when moving to next-gen only games.

Hoping for options. 30 quality, 60 performance, maybe even 120 ultra performance if the game can hold it.

I noticed it in MM and it’s not something I was ever too sensitive about in most games. The swinging was a little nauseating at 30. With MLB, SDS missed a chance to have a 120 FPS baseball game and just went with stadium creator on new gen. They need to implement that for next season or hopefully patch it in this year. If any game would benefit from it, it’s a baseball game.

That’s the only bit you have a problem with?

Hardly a glowing defense you’ve put on.

So yeah - he’s been wrong *a lot* on any issue of significance...

As for his comment on yields - it’s on this forum so you may search for yourself. It’s quite a howler given what we now know.

It's only bit that I could remember, you are free to show tweets or articles supporting your claims.

I will probably try lou1 remake but its not that old and also got remaster and everybody play it, killing days gone 2 is beyond stupid.
who wants to play a remake of TLOU2 with ps4 graphics anyway?

at least do a full blown PS5 remaster. this is beyond stupid.

Killing days gone 2 shows Sony only cares about sales because they didnt greenlight death stranding 2 despite it winning many gotys. they have turned into the Microsoft we had all come to hate. Profits over quality.

Yikes... WTF is this shit?

It's like one of those Indian Bollywood action movies, only far less cool because this actually seems to be taking itself seriously.

So ND is working on a The Last of Us Remake for PS5...

  1. Who the hell asked for ANOTHER TLOU1 rehash? We played the original, and we played the PS4 updated version. Why do we want to see another one on PS5?
  2. Why did this studio (or Jason for that matter) think it would make sense to overspend on a remake project by a brand new unproven team who are also trying to develop their own in-house engine tech?.... I'm not at all surprised Herman Hulst shut it down. Sounds like a disaster in the making.
Moving the project to ND, i.e. a proven team with mature engine and toolchain, was absolutely the right move. They made the original and therefore are better placed to create a faithful remake in TLOU Part 2's engine (therefore keeping visual consistency with the sequel).

Read the fucking article, Nibel!

Bigger news here though is that Sony seems to prioritize big teams with big games above all else; a heavy focus on hits only it seems

This, is not news. This is a narrative that Jason Schrier is pushing, based on a collection of tenuous facts taken out of context, i.e. this Visual Arts team that picked the wrong project to remake and projected an unreasonable budget for it, alongside the Japan Studio reorg---which has been coming for a while, as outside of PD and Asobi Studio (which are both untouched), Japan Studio has been underdelivering since the PS1/2 era (they've been primarily a support studio working with 3rd Jap devs on PSP and Vita games, hence why Gavin Moore moved out there to sort them out).

Jason's whole article is poor written, imho. He should have simply stuck to the Visual Arts studio team story and avoided editorialising it by using the story to push some contrived narrative about Sony investing only in AAA blockbuster games. Many of the games shown since the PS5 reveal clearly expose this narrative as pure fantasy.

The issues with the VA team are obvious to anyone with an ounce of common sense. Sony spending an inordinate amount on a remake of one of their most successful titles, by a newly formed no-name (and no experience) studio? Doesn't make any commercial sense. Sony moving the development to ND is not Sony being risk-averse, it's Sony being sensible.

Brand new studio takes beloved franchise and runs it into the ground is a story this industry is intimately familiar with... ***cough***ME Andromeda***cough***

There's a reason popular successful studios like GG, ND and Insomniac have become so popular and successful, and thus heavily relied upon by Sony. And it's because they don't waste resources on a small team remaking a project that nobody asked for on a budget that far exceeds that of previous publisher remakes---which one would assume includes BluePoint Games' works like Demon's Souls. The team should have either re-scoped their project to something more reasonable, or chosen a different game.

I mean, PS gamers would have been WAAAAY more interested in a team working on a new remake of something like G-Police or Colony Wars... (or even Warhawk), than TLOU. They should have picked something more appropriate.

I 100% understand this sentiment - as i've said numerous times I need to see what there summer showcase looks like before making any judgement on Jim Ryan as a leader.

Not sure why Jim Ryan even comes into it, considering the very article itself clearly states it was Herman Hulst who made the decisions relating to the project.... which is obvious since he's the boss of PS WWS.

No Days Gone sequel ? Most disappointing news ever ! This is by far one of the most underrated game of videogames history. Sony, you’re not helping yourself...

Does the internet have collective amnesia?

Blame the critics and gamers who collectively, consistently and furiously shat on the game, both leading up to release, both at release, and ever since.

It fucking sucks that the game may not get a continuance for a while, but the game at least demonstrates Bend Studio's ability to crank out a banger, and now they get to work on their own new IP.... as for me, I'll take that versus more of the internet bitching about why "Sony needs Days Gone to exist alongside TLOU when they're both zombie games".

I agree with you. A lot of people have this weird attachment to Shawn Layden, so anytime there's negative PS news, Jim Ryan is the first and last person people want to blame.

In a post I made yesterday, I mentioned their showcase is going to be equally important for Herman as well. If not more, IMO.

I have been harping on this for a while now. The critics AND the gamers have lost their fucking minds this gen. This outrage bandwagon has real consequences and now we are seeing what can happen to good if not great games if the internet decides to shit all over it.

Back in the day, we used to give flawed games a chance. We knew that their sequels would be better. Hell, Uncharted 1 wasnt really a masterpiece. Lots of bad combat sections and only a small hint of setpieces that would later define the series.

Nowadays, every game has to be a 10 out of 10 masterpiece right out of the box. Anything with bugs is ridiculed and cancelled on the spot. Nevermind the good game underneath. I have seen Angry Joe, Jimquisition, Dunkey and other professional angry nerds cancel GOOD games left and right over bugs, over being different, and sometimes just for the LOLs. Dunkey's death stranding video got like 4 million hits and poisoned the game. Metal Gear Survive, Anthem, and Andromeda were all cancelled for bugs and being different than prior entries. All three games have fantastic gameplay systems. But nope, the outrage bandwagon had spoken and those games needed to be cancelled.

Days Gone got it the worst because it wasnt even a buggy game like Anthem or unpolished like Mass Effect Andromeda or low budget like Survive. It had it all. Great story, great combat, great open world design and some surprisingly good writing. I always thought this anti-SJW crowd was just a bunch of loons but the reviews for that game opened my eyes because some of the complains (no black zombies, white male biker protaganist etc.,) made no sense. Some reviewers just didnt want to give this game a chance.
