Reminder: Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition is broken on PS5

Since Returnal is coming out this week, there will probably be people who wish to revisit some of Housemarque's previous games. Unfortunately, the PS4 version of Dead Nation has severe issues on PS5. Just though people should be made aware in case they wanted to buy it.

Loved this game, and revisit it regularly. Alienation is basically the same thing, and is also a lot of fun.

I haven't tried either on PS5 yet.

I was about to try it to check the issues but I remembered it is a PS3 game I brought so I give up.

Alien nation just didnt hit the same mark for me as Dead nation. Alien nation just became to much of a chaotic mess on the later levels, or maybe i'm old.

Loved it when I played it at launch years ago. Bummer to hear it's broken. Hopefully it gets fixed.

There's a big warning when you start the game on PS5 saying that there might be issues.

I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say "severe issues". I beat the game on PS5. The only problem I had was after a mission, the game would sometimes crash. I just restarted the game and it picks up where it crashed, no progression lost.

I also prefer Dead Nation as well. Alienation was basically just the same thing with a reskin, co-op and some new moves. It's not bad, but the dark lighting and heads exploding in Dead Nation is still more fun overall.

The biggest problem was 30fps and it remained through 2 more generations of consoles. Exact same problem with Alienation and the #1 reason why I have zero desire to revisit either, ever.

Alienation has the same mechanics as Dead Nation, but I think the play is fundamentally different. One's pure survival and memorizing the levels or learning tactics to work most efficiently through stages, the other is more of a looter-shooter and more akin to a Diablo. Dead Nation has set paths, Alienation has fairly open stages and multiple goalpoints. Your weapons and your stats completely change how you approach goals in Alienation, and if you've got a co-op squad that's really buffed, you shifted from tactical defense to overwhelming offense in mowing down opposing forces (which was a problem IMO, that it was balanced in single-player but then I'd get into co-op and the stats were all over the map and it could lose the fun if you didn't enjoy the pairing.)

Ultimately, I prefer Dead Nation as well, given its more designed stages/encounters and the cool flashlight system and the more organic horror. But I don't find them interchangeable, and there might be a time when I'm in one mood over another.

(One extra note, Dead Nation is a go-to Vita game for me, and since I'm always in a Vita mood, it's the best but also my only choice.)
