Same as last year. Claim the free game and get a $10 coupon for any game over $15. Then they keep giving them to you if you buy something.

Some standouts (for me) after the coupon:

Ghostrunner - $5
Legend of Keepers - $7 (do not sleep on this game)
Battlefront 2/ SW Squadrons / Jedi Fallen Order bundle - $35
Outward - $5
Desperados 3 - $15
Rage 2 - $5
Hades - $10
Metro Exodus - $6

Last year they gave out some bangers with the free giveaways too and if the courts are to be believed they will continue doing that.

What time is it?
Couldn't resist Loop Hero for $5. I think that's my second or third EGS purchase with my library at 210 games. lol

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Bought Hitman 3 for $9. Had already claimed Hitman 3 starter pack and transferred Hitman 1 and 2 content over from steam, so it's was a matter of unlocking Hitman 3 levels only. Couldn't resist. First ever EPIC purchase.

Btw is Detroit any good? Last David Cage game I played was Fahrenheit.

Epic has to be losing money on some of these sales right? Since Epic is eating the cost for the coupons?

If I buy a game that's on sale for $20 Epic gets $2.4 (12%) and the developer gets $17.6 (88%). With the coupon, I only pay $10 but they still have to pay the devs the same amount which would mean they lose $7.6.

Simply put, these are all customer acquisition costs. I reckon they are willing to take a hit to profits now to ensure long term profitability.

Cheap games are cool but what happens when EGS goes bust? I guess when it's $5 games it doesn't matter but hell no to ever buying anything not heavily discounted on that store.

EGS is only a part of Epic's revenues. A very small part at that. They derive most revenues via licensing out their engines. EGS they see at another avenue for revenue growth and these sales are the groundwork being put in to drive customers into EGS. I don't think going bust as a material risk at all lol

Fortnite is their cash cow, and makes so much money for them. But as Overwatch showed quite spectacularly, everything comes to an end eventually.
I really wonder what their plan is for when Fortnite starts falling in popularity (whoch some people are saying is already happening).

Still amuses me how desperate Epic is to get people to actually buy games on their store. Some prices are decent though.

Does the coupon apply to the same game? So Death Stranding is 13.99 after deduction?

Im backlogged to death but might consider it.

Yes Detroit is good but its nowhere close to as good as Heavy Rain was. If you haven't played Heavy Rain, surely buy it as well.

It's about the store not being profitable, and in fact losing money. Yes they can afford to burn cash to drive user acquisition but for how long? That's the issue. If they don't turn profitable before their lottery winnings (Fortnite) start drying up then what's the chance the store doesn't get shuttered? Look at Stadia - Google prints money with their ad business but they had no qualms to shut down their studios (and so many other apps in the past) once they realised what was going on. It's Fortnite that's powering all these Epic moves, not their engine. That's still small potatoes comparatively (and very resource demanding to keep going as well, so no free lunch there for EGS if it doesn't make money).

I have no loyalty to any billion dollar corperation. And they don't to you. I go where the best deal is. Plus market competition is a good thing.

I'm old enough to remember when steam was new, and the hate was probably stronger towards steam than it is to epic now. But people gotta always hate something I guess.

They absolutely do, which is a bit amusing on its own, but that's irrelevant to me.
I just don't want to legitimate their existence and their shitty service., so they can fuck off with their predatory pricing.

There are alternatives that are even cheaper and offer pretty much the same value as Epic does, after all. If not better.

I'm old enough to remember when Steam would have been science fiction as I'm 43 and I've been playing on PC since the late '80s and I can tell you this narrative is 95% bullshit.
Aside from being a precursor in the digital market so having hardly anything to compare with, 90% of the original rage against Steam came from two categories: people who were livid they couldn't play their pirated copy of Counter-Strike anymore and people with a 56K dial-up connection that had issues activating HL2 at launch.
And keeping up to date HL 1, 2 and CS is pretty much most of what Steam did for a good while, and even THEN it was a net step up from the bullshit we had before (having to hunt down patches individually across the web, queuing on services like fileplanet to download them, having the horrendous Sierra InUtilities to deal with for HL1, etc, etc).

Steam didn't really start selling third party software until a good two-three years later, with Ragdoll Kung Fu, Arx Fatalis and few other niche precursors and it started improving steadily and being ahead of the curve since then.

Also, if anything people should have "loyalty" toward themselves and maybe even a bit of dignity, doing their own best interest in the long term instead of allowing any newcomer to steadily fuck them in the ass for a glimpse of short term convenience.
As I said elsewhere, I'm not really into the mentality of "sucking cocks in exchange of goodies is cool" and I don't plan to make creepy uncle Timmy my sugar daddy in exchange of a bunch of freebies.
