Virtua Fighter X eSport announced

I still really hope there's a chance that this will end up on PC someday. Would be awesome to have! Man, I ADORED VF 1/2, hell even 3. But then I fell off after 4. :(

Still really cool to see this happening though, glad it is. Worse come to worse I'll get it for my PS5 assuming it'll play there, lmao. 👀

Still hoping we could see a sequel someday!
I mean it does say it’s a PS4 console exclusive. I think we might see a release sooner than later. I just hope it doesn’t end up a Stadia exclusive. If they’re going that route then I’ll take epic before stadia.

50 dudes usually play Virtua Fighter in the west... I guess the free game and 50 millions PS+ accounts will help.

None of my friends want to even bother adding it to their library, and all of them like fighting games. I expect worse from the average PS+ user. We'll be lucky if we get a few thousand players, even less will keep playing for more than a couple of days. (Not to mention it will be disastrous if this doesn't have rollback netcode)

The cherry blossom leaves in Aoi´s stage on the ground are not moving, reacting to players footsteps like they did in FS. I always loved those small details in VF stage design.

"Round 1 of our Virtua Fighter Retrospective series looks at the state-of-the art fighting simulator that rocked the arcade world: Virtua Fighter. Narrated by Sarah Bryant herself (voice actor Lisle Wilkerson), this covers many iterations of the original 3D fighting game... stay tuned for an overview of the rest of the series in the coming days! Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown launches June 1 as a PS4 console exclusive, and will be available for PlayStation Plus members right away."

I'm sad to say there isn't anything new, at least in footage they showed.

Seems like they would not take a chance to rebalance the game without old team, so too not break it.

Will see when they acquire best players then they could start something.

The VF4 retrospective is going to be so depressing when it starts showing footage of Final Tuned.
I so wanted that game on console ever since it was first announced. There were arcade cabinets of VF4FT in one of the old Yakuza games but you couldn't actually play them. Same thing with VF5R in one of the other Yakuza games. Those are considered the best games in the series but both stayed arcade exclusive.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!

A couple versions of VF4 but not Final Tuned were released at the time. Those systems (PS2 era) were too weak to handle the real deal though so they're quite cut down visually but not ugly or anything, on par with other fighting games.

5/5FS were released last gen. I dunno if those versions were cut down visually since Yakuza's are also based on the console ports and I've never seen it in the arcades 🤷‍♂️ I don't think any Yakuza game has R, only FS in Yakuza 6 & LAD.

So this is more or less a texture mod? Have they said anything about updated gameplay?
It's in the Yakuza engine so i guess this is like SoTC or Demon's Souls remakes.
I saw Max play it yesterday on stream, it looks really cool, if anything i can at least replace Final Showdown on the PS3 with this when i want to throw some fists with the hommies.

I know I played them all in the arcade. The first VF4 was really jaggy on PS2 and while VF4Evo was a big improvement it was still short of the arcade. We had quite a good offline scene going but not getting a console port of FT really hurt that momentum. Something similar happened with VF5R. Yakuza teased them but you couldn't actually play them.

VF5 wasn't cut down. The Ps3 and 360 were more powerful than Lindbergh which ran on Pentium 4, GF6 and 256mb RAM. Final Showdown was cut down probably to keep the size of the game very small, wasn't it below 2gb or so? Its lighting and textures took a hit compared to the PS3 launch title.

Every revision of the original VF5 had worse and worse stages, and Ultimate Showdown is no exception sadly.
Seriously what the hell.
Yes, it was like a quick color and light edit for the fun. Lau Stage in Vanilla had breathtaking lights... The desert Stage is quite good by moonlight on R and the Lei Fei Stage is better in FS. For the rest OG VF5 was the King of the old engine.

Ultimate Showdown might not be impressive in 2021(plus a few weird redesign) but the art suprisingly consistent (all stages are beautiful except the training room or Wolf's Canada) with no plastic effects, no weird textures (like OG) and Dragon Engine is far less dull than the UE4 of Tekken 7.

Except Lau's Stage, stages are more appealing in US. (check Kage's stage, a remake from VF2... it's quite better than OG. Maybe the shiny lights from FS Lei Feins stage gives you a bad impression of the 2021 revision but all textures have more volume. Shun Di's stage had a little flat mountains...it's much more organic now)

The game looks so much better than Tekken 7, i fucking wish that T7 would look as good as this version of VF5.
UE Tekken looks so stiff and even the girls are kinda built like refrigerators. Leo used to actually look like a girl before.

Renaissance Art set a lobby with players located in various regions and they are all praising the netcode

AM2 X RGG Studio

Only very good impressions for the moment. Sega did a at least a good job with the netcode.

I think I'm going to grab the legendary pack. The game is free for me anyway. I like the VF customization and some classic tracks as well, like Lion VF2 or a lot of VF3 tracks. And call me crazy but VF1 Saturn character select is boss as fuck.
