A Halogaf Community Thread: The Old Becomes New

Yes. It can also be programed on the controller itself. It's also a Razer Chroma product and supports Chroma lighting effects. It also has interchangeable thumbsticks and d-pads and comes with a case as well. The only drawback is that it's wired. I game at a desk though, so it isn't an issue for me. I would actually rather have wired, just so that I don't have to deal with batteries and battery packs and the dreaded low battery warning in the middle of an online match. :messenger_grimmacing_
Haha I'm the same way actually. I prefer wired too. Well I'm in the middle of a big move to Alaska, but once I get settled in and Infinite releases there is a good chance I'll be trying one out.

Nothing too surprising, but it's good to see him say that the story/gameplay are a big improvement.

Sounds like the main thing that fucked them was having to develop the engine and game simultaneously. I still think they maybe should've just used Unreal or something. I also don't know if he left before or after the delay and Staten takeover, so I guess things could've changed since then.

Yeah a lot of unknowns from that interview. Honestly it didn't sound that bad to me. A game always has big development plans, which later have to be scaled down due to time. It's interesting that he says the demo at E3 last year being so underwhelming was because a lot of engine features weren't implemented yet. About the only thing he says that is negative and not something normal to AAA game development was that he was glad to be out of 343's baggage. Which could mean any number of things. Did he get let go? He was a skybox artist, so did get to see much of what else was being worked on for the game? When was he let go? Who knows?

Put me in the group that doesn't think Infinite is going to be bad at all. It's received so much hate over a small demo and the rest of the game not having been shown yet. People saw that demo and immediately acted like Halo 4 was a terrible game and that Halo 5's multiplayer was terrible too. I think a lot of the naysayers have never played halo. There are obviously concerns as 343 has been under a lot of scrutiny. I like hearing the criticism from those I know love halo. Ozzy and Havoc have been around for a long time. I usually take to heart when I hear their complaints and concerns.

Well as much as it sounds execs made working on it a shit show, at least it sounds like the people making it genuinely feel it'll still be great. Halo doesn't need to make tsunami's in the industry. It just needs to be Halo and do it well. So please... tell me the game has offline single player/multiplayer 343. That'd just be so nice.

I've been interested in picking up an Elite style controller for a while but I'm seeing online that the Wolverine doesn't let you remap the back paddles on PC. Do you know if this is true?
Not sure, I haven't tried to do that on my PC. I'm out of town right now and don't have access to my PC. When using a controller on my PC, it's usually with pretty basic games and when I tried it with Halo MCC on PC, I never had the need to remap them.

Interesting.

Well, either way E3's only a month away, hope they can knock it out of the park this time.

I agree with this

I never questioned how hard 343 works. I always felt their internal projects lacked leadership and vision on what makes a good FPS. I could tell with the trailer where they introduced the pilot finding the Master Chief they were going down the same path as the last couple of mainline 343 Halo games and still didn't have a clue.

That's one of those areas where I don't really have a strong opinion. I enjoyed the trailer but never considered what that might mean when comparing to Halo 4 and Halo 5. In this case all I can do is hope they figured things out.

Not to jinx the game but I don't think it's possible that Infinite's campaign can be worse than Halo 5's campaign. And I'm one of the few who enjoyed Halo 4's campaign. Though for sure 4's campaign lacked the larger more epic scale encounters that were so common in the previous halos. Large spaces with multiple ways to move around and attack, throw in some vehicles to make it even more fun. Much of 4 was wandering around on foot exploring largely linear levels.

They revealed a few new Brutes/weapons/vehicles in the newest update.

I think the concept art looks really good. Can't wait to see what they look like in-game.

Waaayyy better than the comical fat kid wearing skinny kid hand me down clothes look of the Brutes up to this point.

I just meant the overall vibe of Bungie Halo VS 343i Halo. Bungie is Rock, Metal and Punk, while 343 is coffee house alternative. And they end up not even doing that well and it ends up being crappy coffee house alternative. After watching a Bungie trailer, I want to win one for the good guys, kick ass and take names and have fun with my friends. After watching a 343 trailer I want to have a good cry and as Bonnie and crew like to say, "reflect on this journey we are taking together" (Zzzzz...). 😜

Haha I get that. So what you're saying is that for E3 I need to be prepared for more crying and have a box of kleenex tissues on hand :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I saw this come through last night but was so tired I fell asleep. Not a lot of new info and more of a recap on previous posts.

These actually look pretty good. I have zero halo action figures though. Does anybody remember Starcom? It was a cartoon in the 90's and the tiny action figures were sweet. With magnetic feet you could put them on all sorts of things. I had several plus the big ship. I think they should add magnets to the spartan feet. I'd be tempted to buy a few if that happened.

Who the fuck is buying a Palmer figure?!?

Also bright orange and a stealthy sniper rifle, how covert for a lava world.

EDIT: Chief looks great but I cannot get past the shit grapple tack-it-on design. Hate it.

I hadn't noticed the grapple on Chief's forearm. I wonder if it is removable.

In other news E3 is 3 weeks from tomorrow. I cant wait.

Any thoughts on whether the grapple hook will be standard ability in matchmaking (similar to clamber or ground pound) or will it be a pickup item/equipment? I know 343 can get the feel of combat down really well. I think they nailed it in both Halo 4 and Halo 5. The question is will the combat be ruined by other design choices such as obnoxious abilities, perks, random ordnance, or things like map design or a lack of dev made maps.

Pretty sure they said it'll be a pickup. It'd be a clusterfuck if everyone was able to spawn with it.

I like that much better. Do you think they removed any mechanics from Halo 5? In the campaign demo I saw thrusters used at least once as well as sprint. No sign of the slide, charge, or ground pound. Or maybe I'm just not very observant.

Some Cannon Fodder that I missed on Friday. Must have been posted late. Some new elite models for season 7 in TMCC?

Sprint though appears to have been slowed down pretty significantly, at least going by what we saw in the demo. But yeah I'd prefer if it just wasn't there at all.
Also ADS is gone which I'm very happy about, that always bugged the shit out of me in H5.
Ah yesh the so called Smart Scope lol. I remember the 343 devs defending that shit.

Some Infinite OST snippets appear to have been released as part of the Mega Construx promo vids.
