Ubisoft announces Assassin’s Creed Infinity, which is rumored to be an expanding live service project

Their recent AC games have been borderline live service crap anyway, so they might else well go all in.

I don't get the rage? It seems like people forgot there used to be a big multiplayer mode in AC games before? It will probably be the same formula but bigger. It was good, I don't know why they stopped doing it.

Single-player is not going away because of it.

The true Ubisoft that made masterpieces like AC Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, POP trilogy or Beyond good and Evil to name just those is officially dead.

Farewell Ubisoft. I will always keep playing you old masterpieces, meanwhile call me when you'll be capable to make great games again.

The future is every game hero fast-traveling from one place to another through portals.

Honestly, I won't judge it until I've actually played it. Far too many rush to judgements. That said, the idea does scare the shit out of me somewhat, but I'm willing to give it a chance. Makes me all the more happy to see Xbox embracing big singleplayer RPGs as much as they are.

Both EA and Square Enix had to learn the hard way that "live service" everything doesn't exactly go well with everything. It's time for Ubisoft to learn that as well.

absolutely disgusting fuck this live service subscription future hope it crash and burns, Sony is our only savior

sony are going to join in with how many rumours we have about them making multiplayer games. hopefully it doesnt take away from their single player experiences as sony are one of the few left who do it right.

Couldn’t they manage budgets better or cut out the monotonous copy and paste design and go for something less vast yet contained enough variety to keep a player engaged
Flags is the mechanism to keep people engaged in the game. We are seeing pivot towards more "engagement" using various means. DLCs, MTX, F2P.
Almost every big game is either has multiplayer component or has "flags" to conquer. Almost every game has some skins/new items or DLCs. Almost every game has repetitive loop. Some games bring RPG-like elements - everything for the engagement.

The most important thing is to do that right.

"...several men accused of abuse remain in charge" so now getting accused is enough to punish someone in the eyes of Jason? I don't get this

Yeah I'm not really understanding what the point of that addition is, it's so out of left field considering the topic is the next AC game.

Who cares about The AC licence anymore?

The quests are just fedex in a ridiculously large open-world. In addition to the detour of the historical aspect...

Haven't the recent ones not been live service then? The amount of microtransactions and "time savers" you can buy are are already ridiculous considering these are full priced titles.

Lmao the original pvp modes aint coming back

With the filler on offer already, they could have several hours of story content per week in a live game.

Good luck. It may be a drastic departure from the norm in this space. It would have to be, but the team is there to actually make a live game with content for once.

Great.

The faster the series leads itself to self-destruction, the better.

We've had enough AC's, I think we can all live without the franchise moving forward.

If the heart and soul has been lost, I see no reason why it should remain.

They are the epitome of begs. Forget the fans and people who supported their vision and original idea. Now they're trying to creep on the kids who play these live service games. The fact the franchise gets so much hate and not even half the admiration it used to get...... yet Valhalla sold bucket loads? Do they even get awards anymore? That's not what it's all about.....but it's so telling on the kind of people they've become.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla gave Ubisoft its best ever financial results

These games rock! People love them....except people here of course. They will not fuck up this cash cow.

BTW, recently got a series x. Played the Division 2....the next gen upgrades are amazing. They also made Division 1 run at 60fps and it plays great. Ubisoft games are awesome.

Desillet's depature was the canary in the coal mine. Assassin's creed is now nothing more than a Ubisoft's handpuppet to wiggle around for some extra pennies.

Boy, at first glance this doesn't sound good. If the game gets all grindy like destiny I'm out permanently.

On the other hand, if it's more like an ever evolving world like Hitman, where new lands ( levels in hitman) are released then I could see it being ok.

I am actually expecting some Franchises to go the second route. Build a scalable engine, then use that engine to release multiple worlds all under one long term title. I could see something like Forza, with permanently unlockable lands with new ones releasing every few years, where your cars, perks, etc....carry over to each "land"

this could actually be good for the series. sure ubisoft will stuff it full of microtransactions and milk it dry but instead of pumping out game after game it might be good for them to calm the fuck down and focus on one big game.

Let me guess: full price 70 usd game + paid expansions + loot boxes + always on + obligatory coop modes + esports + battle passes + season passes + vip pass + monthly premium pass + bonus experience and gold pass + paid currency... Am I forgetting something? Well, any other thing that they can copy from F2P/Mobile games ways of getting money.

Can't wait to see this trash.

I hope I am wrong... But I also hope to win the lottery... :messenger_downcast_sweat:

How is that any different than GTA Online ?
Maybe I'm missing something but Ubisoft seem to be following the trend here and not doing anything new.

If I am not mistaken (I only play RDO), GTAO only have paid currency (that can also be acquired in game), everything else is included on the base game. No cosmetics, expansions, loot boxes and other crap... At least RDO is like that, which is perfect in my opinion.

In RDO you can even buy the season pass without spending a penny, you just need to play the game. Different from AC Odyssey (a single player game), that has premium currency, expansions, xp and gold boosters, loot boxes, paid skins and other crap.

Comparing Rockstar to Ubi is unfair... Ubi has way more microtransactions on an offline SP game than Rockstar has on Red Dead Online.

Yep! Neogaf is, as always, a minority.
