- Big Bezels, Oled fixes this a bit;
- Plastic Screen, scratches way too easily;
- Online Service is a Joke.

really what I don't like most is lack of 1st party games.

The last new release Switch game I really put time into was LInk's Awakening. That was 2 years ago.

The store chugs and has no cart. Much easier to access it from Nintendo’s site and buy your games directly from there.

The controllers are just bad for Nintendo standards. Stick drift and cramped button placement on the Joycons, and my right Joycon loses its connection if I hold it so that my palm slightly covers the sensor on the bottom (I believe it’s defective). But even my Pro Controller has stick and D-Pad issues.

Not ergonomic for the most fast-paced games if used in handheld mode.

The battery of the launch model is quite poor, even if not as poor as I feared.

Charge connector on the bottom.

My only problem with it is AAA third party support, but even that has steadily improved.

The absence of GTA is baffling though. There must be some sort of deal in place prohibiting it.

It would sell gangbusters on Switch, and is a 360 game.
What kind of deal do you think that would be?

Sure the 360 version could run on switch, with enough changes the last gen version probably could but rockstar has made it clear they only care about the online and I suppose they don’t see the value proposition there with switch online.

form factor. It hurts my hand in handheld mode. Not in the same way the Vita hurt my hands. Vita would give me claw hand. Switch is so rectangular it kinda digs into my hand. Its like holding a big heavy NES gamepad

battery life. i just perused the eshop for like an hour and went from 100% down to 52%.

They joycon are a little too small for my tastes. I get that they're trying to keep the console's footprint down because it's portable, but there has to be a better way. I also think this would go a ways towards solving their drift issues.

I've never liked the bezels.

Bluetooth audio and local voicechat should absolutely be a thing.

I also wish it had just enough oomph to run some of those local multiplayer games more smoothly--the main reason I wanted a mid-gen upgrade.

Nothing drastic. Great little machine for what it is and does.

joycons are ass and nintendo having full priced games that are like 5 years old.

shitty retro support. where are N64 and gamecube games and why are you drip feeding SNES games? let me play paper mario TTYD on my switch ffs!

The only complaint is they totally made it region free in every way but then they geolocked payments to the japanese eshop by requiring a japanese credit card to be used, even my imported japanese 3DS could accept my uk credit card but on switch nope if you have any form of payment that's not japanese then you are fucked. Can't even use paypal, but there is still a way as i have my 3DS and switch accounts linked so my 3DS is now acting as a wallet i charge it up with funds then use the switch to buy my games.

Some games like odyssey look great, but the games often have a low resolution.

Joycons are trash. Poor ergonomics, build quality and no ir pointer like the glorious wii mote.

I don’t even like the handheld part, so I would like a more powerful home only unit but I’m also realistic. The switch 2 will fix the resolution.

Game droughts and lack of information. MP4 debacle and where TF is bayonetta 3. Another shitty paper Mario.

Breath of the wild continuing to ruin Zelda.

Lack of bluetooth and lack of entertainment apps... but mostly their horrid Online Service with its lackluster library of retro games. The Virtual Console on Wii and Wii U were groundbreaking in comparison.

I only play it with a pro controller (both in docked mode as in portable mode (using a support)). The exceptions are games that demand the joy-cons (and skyward, which I find better to be played with motion).

They also need to rethink how the controllers connect to the tablet. After some months it starts to wobble and lose connection, and then you need to use an adhesive tape to get a solid fit with the tablet again. But still, I would continue to use my pro controller (even if it gets way heavier) because the ergonomics compensate for the extra weight.

With the switch 2, if they release a stronger dock only model (higher resolution and steady framerate), I'm probably gonna get it. Handheld is too much of a hassle.

No folders or favorites-list or any way to manage your games besides a few sort options. Completely useless when you have over 100 games.

Not enough gpu power. I've stopped buying any new games that require panning the screen to aim - they run like crap. Resolution is fine, but framrates are abysmal.

No local save options.
To see a portable device without Bluetooth in this day and age is hilariously frustrating.

The $20 per year for Nintendo Online isn't just for access to NES and SNES games, though. It also allows you to play games online. Do you play Switch games online with friends?

Personally I get enough value from being able to play Mario Kart online that the online multiplayer retro games are just the icing on the cake. But I also play a lot of NES Mario Bros and Clu Clu Land online with friends as well as Panel de Pon on SNES. $20 per year for playing those old games with friends is totally worth it to me. But I can see why you might not like it.

As for what I don't like, the biggest thing has to be not having official joycons with a proper d-pad. I'd like the option to play with wireless joycons in docked mode with a d-pad under my thumb. I have pro controllers but there are times I'd like the flexibility of the separate joycons.
No, I do not play any games online with anyone, so it isn't really a good deal. The only thing I care about is playing Nintendo's retro games, but you can't do that without their online service because they refuse to sell them individually like they used to.

I've had Switch since console launch, I've maintained it well, no screen scratches, never had any controller hardware issues. If I have any gripe it's trying to play games on the console that really don't meet the standards.

Once upon a time I can recall waiting for fighting game rounds to load 30seconds to a minute and it was okay, it's not okay anymore. I purchased Dragon Ball FighterZ and IMO the load time makes it unworthy of being playable. Had I known the loading time's I would've never purchased the game at all, it plays well sure, but the loading time is just cringe and not something my impatient self is waiting for anymore.

So if I have a gripe, it's Nintendo trying to put third party IP that really doesn't make for optimal playing experiences. If I could only only play Dragonball FighterZ on switch and likewise have to live with the loading times then so be it, but you can CLEARLY see the shortcomings of the console trying to be what the PS4/X1 were and it's not the case.

That it has some great multiplayer games but makes it so ridiculously annoying to play with friends. Please just give us a way to communicate that doesn’t involve an app on another device.

  1. E-Shop needs better organization
  2. Controller lag varies for some models including first-party (a big no-no for shmups)
  3. The Home button is in a bad spot on the Pro controller
  4. Wish the dock had better cable management

do you keep your switch in a closet?

fucking blame me like it’s my fault for playing videogames on a videogame machine 😃

Nah my first pair just went sideways on me a few months ago. But to hear the gaming corners of the internet go on about it, it's as if they can't abuse the bejeezus out of their controllers without consequences, they aren't working properly.

i think some genres are harder on them than others… like your right stick is probably fine unless you’re playing shooters

I wore mine out playing borderlands2 and would just spin in fast circles when drift happened. So some games it’s more infuriating… in addition to nauseating. I’m trying to do accurate grenade jumps here.

Your left stick is fucked no matter what you do, unless you replace it with an off-brand or just don’t play videogames.

It’s not even a question of only effecting some sticks. It’s a design flaw and it’s not avoidable with use.

I bought a Switch a few weeks ago and I have to say the experience has been pretty mediocre. The hardware feels so far behind Xbox and PlayStation. The JoyCons are atrocious, both in handheld mode, by themselves and in the Grip (which btw is one of the worst controllers I've used). Thank God for the Pro Controller which is Nintendo's best controller since the Gamecube controller.

It feels pretty retro the whole thing. Playing SM3DW on my Switch feels just like playing it on my Wii U. I'm enjoying Super Mario Odyssey but it doesn't have that "wow" factor.

Having said that, Switch is a better console than Wii U was and my Mario Red and Blue Edition at least looks nice.

I might as well remind people of this little Gem:

For me, I don't want to pay for their yearly rental service that has over 100 games when I only want to play a few of them. Buying the games I do want like we could on the Wii and Wii U would be better than having access to over 100 when I might only want 20 of them. Also, not being able to access them if the internet goes down is also dumb and another reason why I would just rather buy Link to the past instead of pay 20 dollars per year for it and the few others I do enjoy.

This 100%! Let us buy the retro games we want! Stop with this subscription bullshit.

To be fair, there are definitely retro games like the Castlevania and MegaMan collections, Doom, Capcom beat em up collection, quite a few NeoGeo ports, Sega Ages games and the Genesis collection etc. etc.
but A) the Virtual Console concept was way better in my opinion, because there was way more games from way more systems, they are sorted and you didn't need to buy a whole collection because you want to play one game and B) Nintendo's own retro lineup is weak as hell. Let's get Gamecube out of the discussion real quick... there isn't even N64 or GBA, DS, GB(C), let alone systems by other manufacturers. So even if you could buy games individually (which sucks hard, I agree), the lineup is still disappointing to say the least.

Lack of themes. Lack of more profile picks. Lack of folders. Lack of constantly changing eshop music and holiday themes.

That's about it. It's a great system that's snappy and streamlined, but some of the UI charm from 3DS and Wii U has been abandoned. MiiVerse was a decade ahead of its time.

The Online Sub sucks as well.

Everything online related is kinda shoddy and where the fuck is virtual console??? Other than that, don't have many complaints. I actually really like the simplistic nature of the Switch, don't have to navigate through hundreds of menus to do shit.

No Bluetooth audio without dock.

Joycon drift

No theme support without homebrew

Joycons are borderline useless for FPS games like Doom, Wolfenstein pointless in my opinion

Kickstand is one of the most unusual Nintendo things I've seen ever. Never seen Nintendo release something so flimsy.

And then theres the games. First 2- 3 years went well and then Nintendo stopped trying.

- ergonomy: Handheld mode gets uncomfortable in 5 minutes, almost unplayable.
- bad specs: switch were weak on launch (it could have been much faster if nintendo would have spent money to custom SoC)
- bad performance/graphics because of bad specs: Even their IPs would be much better with better specs
- expensive games: Nintendo is just too greedy, selling old games for full price. because they can
- Operating system lacks features: PS vita is light years ahead of switch on features + OS
- lack of 3rd party support: too weak hardware to run modern AAA games, like witcher 3 would be epic, if it would run and look better
- overpriced hardware: it should have launched at 199€ because it used old&cheap tech
- lack of 1st party support: I liked Botw, since then basically nothing for me. Hated odyssey. And Botw I already had for wii u, so basically no new 1st party games to my taste.

I know few people whom own switch and we all agree on these. And most of us haven touched our switch since 2019 because of lack of interesting games, I guess there are some on the indie side, but I dont have the time to check 3000 games to find 30 good ones

The good things:
  • Many games I enjoy
  • Fun, silly multiplayer games
  • Portable (nice to have on trips)
  • Looks good and you can have different skins (many cute ones)
  • It takes little space
Negative things:
  • Not the best to have outdoors (can’t see shit)
  • The resolution
  • The slow e-shop
  • Don’t mind the controls but It’s not comfortable for a longer period of time (so an pro-controller is needed)
  • Really expensive games that almost never go on sale
  • The dock feels cheap

But I still love the switch :goog_geek:

There’s a lot but there are workarounds to them in my experience.

Really the only thing that bothered me a lot was stick drift.

Incredibly underpowered, overpriced, awful build quality (the Joycon in particular, but the Switch itself feels far from premium too).

Mainly that most of the "big" games look like shit in handheld mode to the point that I cannot understand how anyone can tolerate it. The Switch is underpowered as a "home" console but it does the job and has great games. So basically I would love for it to be more powerful. If we had PS4 level power that would be perfect for the sorts of "experiences" Switch generally provides.

Lack of online communication where we pay every month for a service that does not work well enough and you can't even talk on the Switch or message people you have added on the Switch, lack of native Bluetooth support, games being super expensive even after months of release.

Joy cons, raised game prices(pokemon has gone like 4x higher price, and thats excluding online), forced to rent games to play with friends online, even if the same game can be played freely on other platforms that way.
Slower dripfeed of first party NEW games than the final year of Wii U, and it's been constant since a few initial good months in the end of its first year. DLC focus over new games (no i dont want a new free skin to then have to wait for 5 more years to get a sequel). Was thinking to send in joycons in bulk now as i bought new ones once they broke the first time, but nope not "in guarantie" now even if its a factory fault so seems i have to pay for more than shipping to get the sticks fixed.
