So he lied correct? There is a $10 difference between versions.
PS4 version: $60
PS5 version: $70
So you indeed need to pay $10 for the upgrade if not everybody will buy the PS4 version instead the PS5 one.

Well, as unfortunate as it may be, this example doesn't really work given if you are interested in Ghost, paying $60 for Forza 5 on the Xbox isn't going to let you play Ghost.
True they don't have to do what Microsoft is. Perhaps Xbox is recouping costs other ways but it certainly is not looking good compared to the competition if Sony is charging extra.Honestly I don't see a problem with it. There's no "industry standard" or law or anything like that that means they have to give upgrades for free. Microsoft are an outlier. They'd love to charge for it, but they think not charging is a better way to increase their sales and mindshare etc. Sony don't give a fuck about that because they're flying high, and they know that they'll make boatloads of money by charging and realistically will have zero blowback.
MS are making games that charge $20 for parts of a game (including graphical asset upgrades in FS). FS, Halo, Gears, FH5 all have microtransactions. A lot of them $20 a pop.True they don't have to do what Microsoft is. I'd be annoyed if I had to pay twice for the same game on the same platform. I understand if the game is on a different platform like PC or something but its still on a PS console.
All the games on the right: pay us $60 then pay us $10 for every small piece of the game in microtransactions like a f2p game. Halo infinite, Gears of war 5 and FH5 have microtransactions galore, why do they think Car Pass exists.
I'd say this is whataboutism but what you said wasn't even trueMS are making games that charge $20 for parts of a game (including graphical asset upgrades in FS). FS, Halo, Gears, FH5 all have microtransactions. A lot of them $20 a pop.
That will come in time. Just got to wait it out. Sony is trying to squeeze every nickel from early adopter gamers and ones trying to kill two birds with one stone buying the combo edition when they dont even have a PS5 yet, since it looks like a "deal" based on prices with no upgrade path.Just give us an upgrade option. Buy HFW (PS4) for $60. Pay $10 to upgrade to the PS5 version if you want.
Yeah I think they will cave in later. But it's still absolutely stupid. That will come in time. Just got to wait it out. Sony did the same with Spidey Remastered Edition forcing a bundle with Miles Morales. Some people just wanted to play that, but at launch eager gamers had to bundle up to the Ultimate Edition.
Then a month or two later, Spidey Remastered Edition was released standalone for cheap.
They know what they are doing.
I’d bet they’ll cave and release some kind of upgrade path. People will complain about the $10 upgrade too though. This is stupid.
I don't mind $60 for PS4 and $70 for PS5. Game prices were always going to increase, and devs are working extra for PS5 features, they deserve to be paid. However, no upgrade option is a load of bullshit by Sony.
Just give us an upgrade option. Buy HFW (PS4) for $60. Pay $10 to upgrade to the PS5 version if you want.
Ironically developing a game for PS5 should be cheaper tech wise as jumping through hoops for streaming is eliminated. You want it, you got it sort of thing. Artwork etc. may also be more cost effective as you can just aim for lod 0 and allow components like the geometry engine to simplify at runtime etc. This is stupid.

No, it's a valid complaint because there is no upgrade path.I would understand this wouldn't be great pre PS5 launch but seriously.. Do people really expect they should give you a free PS5 version knowing you can buy the PS4 copy cheaper?
The PS5 is out, if you have a PS5, buy it on PS5, you are not forced to buy the PS4 version. And if it wasn't cross gen, for people that don't have a PS5, you wouldn't be getting the PS4 version anyway.
People complained it's a cross gen title and now you want a free upgrade on the last gen version? Smh
What’s amazing is that step by step with each release they are pushing the boundary of scumsuckery a bit further. Owning a PS5 I’m unaffected, but I’m sure as hell not buying it till it’s discounted on principle. Fuck em.No, it's a valid complaint because there is no upgrade path.
Suppose I don't have a PS5 yet (I haven't been able to secure one), and I buy the PS4 version when HFW releases in February. I play 40% of the game and manage to get a PS5. Now I can't upgrade my game from the PS4 version to the PS5 version. I instead have to pay $70 to buy the PS5 version. So that's a total of $130 ($60 to $70).
I don't mind $70 for the PS5 version, but there should be a $10 upgrade path to move from the PS4 version to the PS5 version. This is bullshit.
I'm no techie, but thats sounds reasonable. But in reality, price and cost of goods dont necessarily go up or down together.Ironically developing a game for PS5 should be cheaper tech wise as jumping through hoops for streaming is eliminated. You want it, you got it sort of thing. Artwork etc. may also be more cost effective as you can just aim for lod 0 and allow components like the geometry engine to simplify at runtime etc.
It is undoubtedly extra work to create a game to work across both system however.
I also own a PS5 so it doesn't matter to me, but wrong is wrong. So I'm calling it out. What’s amazing is that step by step with each release they are pushing the boundary of scumsuckery a bit further. Owning a PS5 I’m unaffected, but I’m sure as hell not buying it till it’s discounted on principle. Fuck em.
Last gen Sony pioneered cross buy. This gen Sony pioneered cross FU!In the previous gen, there was no free upgrade for cross-gen games aside from small exceptions and no one complained. Now people act like Sony is fucking the consumer, but why?
I'm not defending Sony, wish i could get the two versions too, but i find this sudden entitlement a bit funny.
Incredible how that is not even the most hilarious part, built from the ground up on ps5 is some gigantic bullshit
"we have an upgrade path for PS4 users to get the PS5 versions FOR FREE"
True, but it was mostly for Vita and indie games.Last gen Sony pioneered cross buy. This gen Sony pioneered cross FU!
Fair enough. I guess the key here is remasters that came later on attracted a re-buy. But if the game was being sold on multiple Sony platforms at the same time, you got the entitlement.True, but it was mostly for Vita and indie games.
You didn't get the PS4 remasters of GoW3 and TLOU for free if you had bought the games on PS3, for instance.
People also complained about having to pay for Spiderman remastered and Ghost of Tsushima DC, despite coming out later on PS5. I think the expectations are just different nowadays, probably because of what Microsoft is doing in comparison.Fair enough. I guess the key here is remasters that came later on attracted a re-buy. But if the game was being sold on multiple Sony platforms at the same time, you got the entitlement.
From spider-man's puddles to nemesis' teeth, to director's cuts, to this
*ethomaz after leaving lyin' jim ryans hotel room*It list the name of several PS5 games (launch and future) and the [PS5] launch games will have free upgrade.
Nothing is said about future games like Horizon.
"The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive."
Some photo mode emotes are DLC / Edition exclusive
The worst is the fact they said Its a "HUGE" feature they didnt charge for ... so they contemplated charging for Photo Mode
