Disappointment: 100% Hype to 0% Hype...

I'm sure you've been through this...

You saw the videos and photos of the game, thought about taking it on day 1, it seemed 100% your taste, or the company/series you like...

Suddenly...A new gameplay comes out and you see that it was nothing like that, your hype drops from 100 to 0.

In my most recent case it was Sifu... I expected a lot from the game, until I saw the last trailer... Gameplay is practically the same as Batman's, without any depth.

If it comes out and it's really good, that's another story, but my hype has dropped drastically...

I felt the same after recently seeing the Batman style combat in Sifu.

They both suck after years and tons of trailers overhyping them.

God of War 2018.

Was a fan of the original trilogy, even played the remastered psp games, and everyone just kept showering this game with praises and calling it GOTY, so it must be good right?
Then i finally tried it and all i got was an ok-ish beat 'em up that still managed to play worse than the original, with an uninteresting story that really wanted to think of itself as some deep emotional shit.

This was the game that made me officially stop considering general reviews and mainstream public impressions as a metric for getting my games.

Recently it would have to be Kena. The gameplay and world look so so simple. We go from ratchet that looks pixar like with all of it's action and this amazing detailed world and then you have Kena who's cg trailer looks pixar like but then you get to the actual game and it looks like a remastered ps1 game.

Hype is only good for the publisher's pockets and very rarely for the consumer's enjoyment. Uually great expectations end up in disappointment.

Or maybe i'm too old to get "hyped" anymore.

The Division, from the first gameplay trailer which came around in a time me where I used to play much DayZ and other hardcore survival games with friends to the open beta, when I realized it will be a bullet spongey loot shooter.

Cyberpunk really was a let down. I have forgotten the game even exists to be honest. Crashed my PS5 a few too many times that I refused to put the disc back in. It will stay that way until the next gen patch is released and I’ll go back to it probably as I’ve heard it actually does get quite good but no point right now.

Assassin's creed Unity will always hurt. I love Paris, I love that time period of Paris. I brought the big pack for the Xbone was super excited and bam it ran like crap, I wanted it so bad, that want punished me, I hardly ever get excited for games now. Assassins creed stole my hype.

It looks much deeper than Batman. It's made by the Absolver people - the combat is their whole thing.

Also there should be a rule that you can't be disappointed by something you haven't played.

Final Fantasy. After playing FF7RI I have zero hype for FFXVI and any Final Fantasy going with realtime action. Just make it turnbased again or outsource the IP to a dev that can actually make third person action, it’s just some B grade janky shit now.

No mans sky was a huge let down. The game never lived up to what it was promised, I hear it is great now, but I will never go back.

hudsons adventure island my Nintendo Power made it sound cool, it is the game I hate the most.

are in a big trouble
Not sure to be honest but I wasn't hyped for it because I thought we didn't need one but I did think well if it's coming fair enough I loved the last few games.

However the more trailers I saw for MGSV I was the worse it looked to me. When I finally got it in my hands it's the first title in the series I put down and thought wtf is this piece of shit. I later went back and finished it but I can honestly say as someone that's played all titles multiple times this one is by far the worst.

Also those that say no man sky I thought it would be shit didn't make sense at all to me but I felt your pain

Have to go with the "popular" answer unfortunately but Cyberpunk 2077. After years of hype it just felt empty and hollow. The NPCs, the driving, the unbalanced upgrades, the countless bugs, it was so far from what I expected it makes you wonder how they even pulled that marketing off.

In the end I'm willing to give it a second chance whenever the next-gen version hits but my expectations sure are in check this time around.

I'm the odd ball out. This made me excited for the game because I love batman gameplay. And sifu looked like it was going to be too technical to the point of it being too much for me.

Hoshigami. Hyped as the next Final Fantasy Tactics by some magazines, pre-ordered (import... paid a lot for it)... what a failure of a game. :(

Dice's first Star Wars Battlefront.

I remember saying back when Battlefield 3 hit, that Dice would be the perfect dev to bring back Battlefront. Then it happened. The graphics seemed too good to be true. Even the demo with the waves of enemies seemed solid.

When the actual game came out though it had been so cut down in scope compared to previous entries and the levels were so narrow and linear, that it had none of the same feel or appeal as Battlefront 2. Hell, it felt more like CoD Ghosts than Battlefield, let alone Battlefront. Huge letdown, and while I understand that BF2 made some strides towards adding back features, the foundations of the gameplay were so compromised that I had no interest.

RE 8. Was really looking forward to it up until I saw all the extra ridiculous shit like the big bitch, vampires, and etc. Its like RE lost its identity.

As far as Sifu I love the look of it. The Batman combat doesn't bother but I been cautiously optimistic because these are the Absolver devs and that game was trash.

Warcraft III: Reforged Refunded. It was supposed to be a remake of one of my most favorite RTS games . What we got instead was the biggest shitshow and 'fuck you' from Blizzard.

Resident Evil 5.

When I saw the reveal gameplay trailer I was utterly floored with the tension and the visuals. Later I saw another trailer which showed you that the game has constant co-op and I became disinterested.

I try to enjoy games for what they are rather than what developers promise they'll be.

Experience makes you just look and see how it plays.
Im not a newbie, and i do not buy games because of trailers.

The thread is about disappointment BEFORE u put your hands on it. U look and say wow, game looks awesome, then more they show, u got disappointed, wasn't what u expected...

For me, it was World of Warcraft: Legion. It had a lot of great things going for it. Class Halls, returning legendary weapons that were upgradable and customizable. The return of the Burning Legion. Sargeras finally making an appearance with hints of old god corruption. World Quests!

Instead, the closer we got and the more I learned from the Beta, we got a grindy, sci-fi over saturated mess with insulting character development, ugly zone designs, and completely unfriendly alt design.

Easily my least favorite WoW expansion and what killed the series for me. BFA was slightly better, fi only because the zone designs and initial story weren't so awful for me, but blegh.

The biggest one ever for me was Yoshi's Story.

After the masterpiece that was Yoshi's Island I was so hyped for YS. Then I played a demo and...all hype was gone.

Hitman Absolution

The first trailers really got me pumping but the end result is a very mediocre game, with questionable mechanics, embarrassing story, cringey characters and horrible A to B missions without any targets.

A pretty game though.
