Had a family gathering earlier today and one of my cousins made my grandma's chicken pot pie by the letter. It tastes like heaven. Sex for my taste buds. A higher form of food. Literally the best food related thing I have had in months as far as I am concerned. I get back home and I join my usual group of friends who I play my games with and I decide to mention this fact to one of them and he says and I quote "Chicken pot pie? That is just a more complicated chicken soup with glorified bread crumbs. That stuff sucks."

what-the-fuck-did-you-just-say.gif

Now I consider myself to be someone with a level head and I don't have any anger issues. But hearing that made me wanna explode the sun and watch the solar system die in that moment. I literally grew up on stuff like chicken pot pie. It was a regular attendant at the Thanksgiving dinners of my youth and basically every holiday party that mattered my whole life.

Am I in the wrong for wishing complete and total annihilation on my friend for his obviously wrong food based opinion or I am rating Chicken Pot Pie too high on the list of foods?

EDIT: Oh and before anyone asks. Yes I am drunk at the moment and eating said Chicken Pot Pie leftovers. Be jealous.

It's awesome, but I've convinced myself it's really bad for you for some reason since I really have only had the frozen cheap ones. Not sure what goes into the "broth," but it's probably fairly calorie dense.

I should try and talk the girlfriend into making some homemade soon. Never tried it.

Thanks for posting this Nobody. I have to say, I enjoy myself a chicken pot pie. But I must admit, I have only had the base level, frozen, from a variety of purveyors, some better than others. But this homemade chicken pot pie of which you speak, I can only imagine the glory! And woe to any who blaspheme such a feast!

A homemade chicken pot pie is fire. I want to get more into baking fresh pies and there are a lot of great pie recipes here in the south.
Me and you may not always agree on life in general but in this moment we are friends that enjoy an affinity for unhealthy foods together and to be honest is there any other higher form of friendship?

Honestly I've never had a great homemade one. I liked the $1 frozen chicken pot pies when I was a kid better, possibly because I was a kid. I need to get one to test.

I've had a great one at a restaurant before though.

We like games too. If you got a PC or Xbox, don't be shy. Anyways, I'm not so rigid when it comes to policies tbh, but that's a discussion for somewhere else.

However, you are correct. Comfort food is fucking delicious and brings people together from all cultures.

In the U.K. a pot pie is literally a pie in a pot ie like a casserole with a pastry lid. They are the enemy of actual pies so I’m glad I don’t need to kick off.

What then distinguishes a pot pie from a normal pie in the US?

Almost all pies in the US are sweet pastries and they often, maybe usually, don't have a pastry crust on top. Pot Pie differentiates the savory meat pies from sweet pies. It doesn't mean a casserole. The pie box picture someone posted earlier is probably the pot pie most Americans are more familiar with. In certain regions we also have shepherd's pie etc. There's other idiosyncratic foods like cheesecake which is clearly a pie and not a cake.

I feel Americans don't really get pie. I'm not sure what those migrants all those years ago were thinking, but it clearly wasn't straight.

I'll admit Shepherd's/Cottage/Fisherman's/Admiral's pies aren't really pies, but they are delicious so they get a pass.

Pot pies just seem like skimping. At least with mash-based ones there's the very solid argument that mash makes a terrible base.

It's the best thing a human can eat, you can throw almost everything you want as long as you got MEAT, CHEESE and potatoes <3 and it is a good meal to eat with friends or family:

All I had my life were the frozen pot pies and they are top tier, can't imagine how good a home made one is.

I absolutely love it. Any Pot Pie is usually amazing.

Flaky crust
Hearty vegetables
Chunks of meat
Gravy

This is the kind of food that kept people alive during rough winters 300 years ago.

Very good. There is an Amish market not too far from me that makes the best ones you can eat.
I have found that it is the homemade stuff or the ones that are in hole in the wall diners that are the best ones.

There is something that a CPP loses when it is mass produced or made super regularly. I can't describe it.

If you are ever in Columbus NJ go to Amish place at Columbus flew market and try the chicken pot pie amongst many other things. They surely can cook.

Holy shit that looks amazing!
It tasted amazing. I cook a lot for the fam and a few years back my sis asked me to make CPP for a get together. I had never made it before and felt like it was a daunting task. I did what I always do and checked for a barefoot contessa recipe. It ended up being straightforward and legit the best pot pie I had ever consumed. Everyone was gushing about it. Bless my sister for making such a ludicrous request. "Can you make homemade chicken pot pie?"

I can now
