Understand your position. I'm just saying the fur TO ME isn't anything special because the shading is the same as any other fur in games. If we want to say that since the fur in the cutscenes is using actual curve primitives and that's what make it superior, I can agree with that. But the fur while playing the game isn't anything special at all. It looks very similar to many other games with the typical hair shading. The most impressive fur I've seen while in gameplay is the Black Myth demo.
Ok? I don’t care about digital foundry. I agree with some things they say, I disagree with others.
As I mentioned, the fur-rendering doesn't look good but I respect your opinion that it does. The other items that you named are typical assets from any game out there. Draw distance isn't a metric because it's a game that's closed within the extents for that level. It's not open world like open world games that you can actually travel to. The warps are definitely something that can be done without the PS5 SSD. The data isn't anywhere near large enough to require it.
I was gonna say but it doesn’t matter. It’s still an impressive looking game. That fur looks like shit

...
I think Digital Foundry are dumb for not including FS in their 2021 lists because it released on a different platform earlier. That doesn’t mean that I think that everything Digital Foundry do or say is wrong and dumb, which is not the “gotcha” you’re gonna pretend it is.
Disqualifying Flight Sim because it came out on a different platform in 2020 is ridiculous, but exactly something I would expect NXGamer to do lol.
Flight Sim on consoles also was significantly different to PC since it was made using DX12. The PC only got updated to DX12 in November 2021. Also Flight sim then got a “rerelease” with a “game of the year” edition, so again wouldn’t that qualify it for this 2021 list?
Other games on the list released first in previous years. It’s NXGamers list, he can do what he want, but his bias is showing yet again. His 10:1 ratio of ps to Xbox videos on his channel isn’t a coincidence.
Is he trying to get himself banned again?
Seems like really dumb derails or really silly things that he says usually ends up in a ban for him.
You really need take some advice from the mods here of you want to stay with us. Unless you change I don't see you lasting much longer.
It's very easy for these games to match the color saturation and look of early Pixar films - until Lightyear get's released. Lightyear moves away from the cartoony look and focuses on a much more photoreal color palette.
You entered in the bullshit zone. The fur disappears in gameplay. It's quite noticeable.

He probably destroyed his PS5 after he was done making his garbage "analysis" threads. A useless troll account like MrFunSocks (good riddance...but once again too short)You entered in the bullshit zone.
Nope… it doesn’t.
Have you even played it?
It's amazing what Insomniac did in such a short time frame. It's easily the best graphics at the moment and like reviewers say playing a pixar movie in realtime.Ratchet looks spectacular in both gameplay and in realtime cutscenes.

If we start including games that release first time for that platform then death stranding wins this yearOk? I don’t care about digital foundry. I agree with some things they say, I disagree with others.
I agree with some things you say too, doesn’t change the fact I might think you’re dumb too. You’re one of those fanboys that only thinks in extremes. Somethings either the best or the worst, no in between. Someone either believes everything someone says or nothing.

Can you do me a favor before your final ban? Make a meltdown thread that puts Kretos to shame. We need a counterpart for green rats.Disqualifying Flight Sim because it came out on a different platform in 2020 is ridiculous, but exactly something I would expect NXGamer to do lol.

it looks fantastic to me, I don't get the horrendous look at all bit.No.....this is simply not true. I fired up the game and took these shots in photo mode myself.
I barely ever use photo mode so obviously not a pro at it, but in no way does the fur "disappear" in game play.
Lol exactly. Die hardman would swipe the award each yearGo down that road and you could argue Death Stranding wins the last three years (2019: PS4, 2020: PC, 2021: DC). But.....let's not....

What does it do that is new? nice shading on planes? volumetric clouds? The assets streaming?
It looks great in many areas, but "running on S" doesn't mean it has a place in the list, there are hundreds and hundreds of games that run on the S.
I think blue dildos woud be a nice throwback to that kretos thread, Following that logic Nintendo fans would probably be red fleshlights. And the most logical thing would be White holes for the Ouya fans...There's a theory that they exists but noone has ever seen any.Can you do me a favor before your final ban? With how much this dude hates any mentions of Ratchet... I'm starting to think he's actually Dr NefariousFinally admitting that R&C is currently holding the quality bar high!

Plot twist: VFX Veteran works for Insomniac Games and is just tired of drawing Ratchet LmaoWith how much this dude hates any mentions of Ratchet... I'm starting to think he's actually Dr Nefarious
I can believe that.
I was using hyperbole dude. The fur looks very sparse at the camera's distance and moving the character around in the game. It's nowhere near the same shading and certainly don't have the length of curves that it does in the cinematics. And yes, I owned a PS5 and bought all of their games at one point including this one.No.....this is simply not true. I fired up the game and took these shots in photo mode myself.

Dude, I guarantee you that the game isn't using the same technique or assets while during gameplay. We went over this several times already and you all have to accept it for every game. My entire point in this thread is that sites should use actual gameplay as a means of judging a game's technology in graphics - not the cinematics - as they are misleading. It' just short fur
Like any game, it balances the LoD based on distance within Frustum. Up close, in gameplay, as shown here in Photo mode. The spline/clam/fur rendering is used and includes self-shadowing, in cinematics they bump up a light source or two, increase the fins/splines which just emphasizes this with the hero lighting, again nothing new here and is used across every single game on any platform and is just pedestrian at this point to balance load.I was using hyperbole dude. There are not using self-shadowing man. Trust me. There is no ambient occlusion being used on any fur in any game.Like any game, it balances the LoD based on distance within Frustum. Wrong twice, I even show the self shadowing in my tech analysis earlier in the year. There are not using self-shadowing man. Trust me. There is no ambient occlusion being used on any fur in any game.
And the camera is locked so you can't see the fur strands. That's equivalent to me trying to say a texture is highly detailed but I can only see the 4th level of the MIP map texture which is very low resolution from Level 0 (highest level).
If you play it you would know I guessHow does ratchet and Clank keep getting a pass for being the exact same game it was twenty years ago while COD, Gears and Halo get scrutinized regularly for the aforementioned.
are we gonna have these debates, for every 1/100000th detail for the games?
Dont people have games to play?
I almost spat out my tea when I saw this
You are seeing shadow maps from a proxy hair primitive. I have programmed this stuff before and know exactly what I'm seeing.Wrong twice, I even show the self shadowing in my tech analysis earlier in the year.
Pulling the camera up close to trick the gameplay into rendering all the primitives isn't my way of trying to claim that a game has highly detailed fur primitives. That's a dishonest way of skirting the facts. I would never do that. I judge the game based on how it's meant to be played. But you do you.Plus you can move the camera in gameplay up to a close wall and it pulls in, you have not played and, please stop making stuff up based on you bias.

I would agree. My mistake since people literally dissect all my words to try finding flaws or holes in it.Incredibly out of place conversation to be hyperbolic, to be honest. And I made no comment about what you own or have played.

Here you are, ONCE AGAIN, comparing realtime techniques vs Offline rendering techniques, why aren't you comparing this fur rendering to other videogame rendering tech? You are seeing shadow maps from a proxy hair primitive. I have programmed this stuff before and know exactly what I'm seeing.
1) You can't use shadow maps on individual fur primitives because they are too small to be captured into a shadow map of any resolution. It's just not accurate. Imagine trying to sample a straight line into a grid of pixels to capture that straight line. You'd need damn near infinite resolution to capture it.
2) Ambient occlusion can only be done in 2 ways - both of which I did even before Pixar implemented their own ambient occlusion for fur. 1) You have to create a point cloud of all the fur primitives and then you have to sample from that point cloud. No game is going to do that in realtime. The other way is ray-tracing ambient occlusion. And we all know that that's not happening anytime soon.

This is a topic about graphic, if you wanna talk about gameplay you can go to the redhead appreciation topic, they are always with an arcade stick in their hands over there. How does ratchet and Clank keep getting a pass for being the exact same game it was twenty years ago while COD, Gears and Halo get scrutinized regularly for the aforementioned.
