Bloomberg: Microsoft will keep publishing Activision titles on PlayStation

Actions after the last deal speak louder than hollow words that suggest there is no monopolistic intent before the deal is approved By necessary governmental agencies.

Hard to know what will happen. I assume cod makes tons of money for Activision for dlc and such. I would imagine them not wanting to lose 10 million players and would continue to release cod on PlayStation, but then again could be like Bethesda deal. We'll see in a couple years.

I just imagined all games coming to PS5 with a big banner popping up every 5 minutes saying "In better quality + extras on Xbox Game Pass for just 15 bucks a month. Join now!"

Where’s the memento meme of the guy raising l, don’t trust what Phil says.

In other words: Not their intent, but you know, if they don’t agree to have Game Pass on PS then what can we do, right?

I would imagine that Sony will just make a 1st party Shooter that pulls out all the stops.

Hopefully it isn't Killzone. Something new that really turns heads, I still probably wouldn't buy it, but it makes complete sense for Sony to use their 1st party resources and come out guns blazing with a God-Tier shooter.

Come to think of it, if they made CoD a Xbox exclusive ( on consoles ) they might be able to sell a lot of them in countries like Japan?
CoD is still a big title in Japan and they don't rly play a lot of PC.

I wonder if this will force Sony to keep their games off PC?

If more people are saying u should have an xbox for gamepass that will be wvwn easier if sony is on pc.

As is sony doesnt have the non console infrastructure that MS has. For them its either Playstation console or nothing(almost).

They are also really gonna need to build that gamepass like infrastructure.

Games will come to gamepass for Xbox and $70 for Playstation. Basically MSFT will use it as a tool to get PS owners over to game pass and try to make the PS version undesirable to puchase at all.

One one hand they save face by not taking games away and in the other they rank in gamepass subscribers.

There you go. Sony isn't going anywhere and the Playstation brand will be perfectly fine.

JIM RYAN IS GOD!
So exactly the same they said when they acquired Zenimax.

So they spent $70 billion for Activision, yet it’s basically business as usual with games still coming to PlayStation? Does that make any sense? They will probably keep some exclusives on the XBOX like COD or something for this deal more worthwhile.

For what? Sony still gonna be awesome no matter what

It'll force them to get closer to their fans and gamers, and to release more games and IP's than they are now. So it should end up well for me as a PS gamer. Also this could mean they review their PC approach.

I imagine Diablo 4, COD and OVerwatch will remain on Playstation. But the days of Sony milking COD for exclusive content is done.

Microsoft owns frickin COD...what universe is this?

Isn't this exactly the tone they were talking with the BETEHSDA acquisition, letting the anxiety fade and then pulling exactly the titles people were asking about off other console platforms?

Right now it doesn't make any sense to pull COD given that COD is like these sports games: you expect it on multiple platforms.

. . .this of course assumes this deal is allowed to go through as is.

I guess it makes sense. If you want to give them $70, go for it.

If you want it for next to nothing on your sub, go to Xbox. Win/Win.

Aka warzone on ps but mainline titles no
I dunno, when it comes to microtransactions, I bet at least 30% are bought through Multiplayer and not WZ. You can buy all the operators, skins, guns etc and use them for both. So it's not just WZ that is the microtransaction cashcow. My nephews play WZ and only buy COD and play multiplayer to quickly level up their guns, that's it, they just play shipment or Nuketown 24/7 just so they can unlock attachments for their guns in WZ, apparently a lot of people do that. I don't know if MS would be willing to give up that income stream.

They want money. Minecraft is printing money as a multiplat. CoD is probably doing the same. And maybe someone worse was about to buy them? Tencent?
Either way I win since the games will come to Gamepass 👍
Yeah, all cards are on the table. They've secured their position for sure now so how they choose to release content going forward is entirely up to them; it could stay status quo (what we're used to now) or they might just start act more like a Disney and put their content where they think it makes sense; if that is on PlayStation and they can still make money, they might do that. But who knows at this point. Game Pass is definitely their focus so whatever helps them promote that is what they will do.

It makes sense.

Put CoD on game pass and also sell it for 70 usd on Playstation.

I'm betting that Microsoft won't release COD on PS5 once the deal is done. Yearly COD games are a perfect fit for a recurring subscription model. My guess is they'll try to use it to shift PlayStation players to PC game pass or release a Series X or S COD bundle with some free game pass to try to coax them away from PS5.

Sure they might do that but I don't think Sony's PS5 is what drove them to do this — unless things weren't as rosy inside as they seemed — they are definitely interested in pushing Game Pass no doubt and if what you are saying is what they see as the best way, that is exactly what they will do. I mean I know PS5 is a competing platform and it's been selling better but it wasn't that much of a threat to MS's ecosystem as some of us seem to think.

I think there is more to this than meets the eye.

EDIT
I don't know what Apple's plans are but they did introduce Arcade as part of a subscription they offer where you basically get a bunch of games for a set price (right now basically the cost of a coffee) but if Apple's plans are bigger than they seem; MS would definitely want to get ahead of that.

No, it's not. I can't believe some people still actually believe this.

Microsoft paid a shit ton to keep these games off their competitor's box. You ain't getting it on your PS5. You can either stream it or plunk down the money for a XSX (I'd got for the latter...it's worth it!)

For now it makes sense. This isn't the same as the Bethesda deal at all. I agree with this decision. In a couple years though, anything is possible.

They will be multiplatform until the deal goes through, then all future games will be on Game Pass devices.

Sony

They won't make CoD exclusive. Bethesda games like Starfield, Elder scrolls etc. are mostly SP. Maybe with an MP component. But CoD is an online service with a steady income stream.

They will become exclusive in the same way Zeninax stuff became exclusive; new stuff exclusive, old stuff probably not.

This doesn’t mean shit. The same was said about Bethesda. There’s contracts they have to keep and the sale hasn’t gone through yet.
