The idea isn't that you will need to spend that money at once.I think I get your point that for example with GP you could activate it once every x months to catch up on the service and not sub all the time if you’re only interested in specific games. In that case you’d pay less in the end. I wouldn’t do that but it’s not necessarily a bad idea.
The only thing is, as long as you can buy a 1-year XBLG card for €54 and convert it (and that’s the Amazon price, you can go even cheaper with resellers) you’d need to use the monthly GPU sub only once every 4 months to break even, which isn’t super worth it.
Everyone can basically afford $15.
People get paid every month. So you have that $15 ready.
That $15 won't leave a dent on your money.
But the more you spend at once, the more you will notice the dent on your budget.
For example, if I earn 2k a month, that $120-$180 would be hurt that budget. But $15 leaving won't have that much impact.
You can save that $120-$180. But your priority won't be spending on gaming. Because people who earn that much money, have bigger things to worry.
Monthly prices makes more sense.
You can say, that it will cost alot in the longer run. But it won't affect their budget that much.
$120-$180 will harm the budget, at the expense of savings. $15 will save the budget, at the cost of being expensive in the long run.
People will go with the ladder. Since it allows them, to save money right now, and spend in important matters.
