Was messing around with my hacked vita before and man, I really loved the design of this thing. Feels so solid. Had some great games in its short life. Almost feels like the dreamcast of the handheld scene. For whatever reason Sony just ceded the handheld market to Nintendo. I feel like with modern tech a new Sony handheld could be amazing.

Then you have PSVR. Have to admit I wasn’t really feeling the first one. Had some cool games but the move controllers sucked for tracking and the whole thing was just cumbersome to get going. PSVR2 on paper has great hardware and the haptics stuff could be cool. But tbh after Oculus Quest 2 I have little interest in wired VR. Even streaming to a Quest from a PC is ace. Oculus is completely dominating the market right now with facebook dumping a ton of money into advertising it. It’s cheap and works standalone. I feel like this could be an uphill battle for them but I hope it does well just as a tech enthusiast, it seems great.

What would you rather have?

Let's be honest: handhelds are not a market that can be entered anymore. Nintendo has an incredible hold. A new Vita would only be sent to die.

PSVR2 is the future. There is no competition there. Sony can be leaders and, if they do it right, can be leaders in the overall VR market in the future.

Vita 2, baby!

VR at the fidelity Sony are gonna have theirs, I dunno, could have waited a few more years and maybe go wireless and with those finger tracking vr gloves that were patented in the runup to PS5.

I say Vita 2, until we know about what "amazing titles" are going to be on PSVR2, a Vita 2 sounds much more enticing with the idea of better hardware focusing on remote play, game streaming, etc.

Vita 2 all day long.

The Switch is ok but the Vita had supreme build quality and the PS network infrastructure. Platting PS4 games through remote play on that OLED screen. Beautiful.

I think you are underestimating Oculus and facebergs commitment to VR

PSVR2, at least it will offer a different type of games and I'd be interested in picking one up depending on the price.

I don't have a lot of use for a portable console. Best case scenario it would just play Ps4 games and I can simply ignore it, worst case scenario it gets a bunch of exclusives from Sony that I'll wish I could just play on my Ps4/5

Vita was fun, but it already had its time in the sun. Theres plenty of options out there for handheld gaming: Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, smartphones, tablets, PlayStation remote play, cloud streaming services like Gamepass. I dont know what Vita2 would bring to the table thats not already available.

On the other hand, it sounds like Sony is pushing the vr medium forward in a couple of ways: haptic headset, eye tracking, 3d audio. I think Sony really has a shot of bringing a lot of excitement to the vr medium.

Um... what? Oculus came out in 2016. PCVR is huge, along with dedicated AIO Quest 2 games.

Not at all. I was an OR early adopter and got burned by FB. I know I will never buy another Oculus product and I know there are many enthusiasts thinking the same.

Not saying the general public will do the same but I know there is space for Sony to enter. Now or never.

I'm not so much into VR (it interests me and I wish it would grab me more, but I have two VR headsets in a box somewhere and thought better of giving Quest as a Christmas gift to somebody who would have enjoyed it but also probably abandoned it in a box,) and I love my PSP and Vita, so that's my vote all day.

I still wish, though, that I didn't need to make a choice. Live and let live.

Whatever comes though (well, it's PS VR2, obviously, no matter how hard I hammer the vote button...) I just hope Sony can actually support it this time. Sony's official software support of either platform was only about 4 years each (and PSVR1 only eeked into 2020 because Iron Man was delayed,) both platforms continued with 3rd Party titles (PSVR still gets games, PS Vita they stopped new releases last year,) but you want the platform holder to be leaders on the platforms and you could feel the void of Sony's absence in both Vita and PSVR. So, if Sony's going to re-enter these markets with new hardware, they cannot go half-speed or take the foot off the gas.

VR all day. Switch and Steam Deck are there if you want handheld gaming.

Eh, that's a fair cop. (Although Meta Quest and Oculus Rift and Steam VR and every other VR solution is there if you want VR gaming, too.) You can also Remote Play your PlayStation 4/5 or stream over PS Now (or emulator old PlayStation classics) to get a lot of the PS library if you play portable or travel, whereas VR is VR and it doesn't exist if it doesn't get made.

Neither audience is starved right now, which either means it's a good time for Sony to expand that reach or it's a tough time with competition happily serving the community's needs.

Both.I would love another playstation handheld but I don't see Sony getting back into it, especially now that there are so many out there.
