Bought an Xbox One X for $125 today, yes really, wanted to know….

So had a lowly One S

Saw someone on Marketplace offering an Xbox (they didn’t know what kind. I did) with two Microsoft pads for $125

Got it fast as I could

Should I hang onto it for a while? I’m currently starting Cyberpunk on it (played some on PC at launch)

Wanted to try the new patch and honestly it’s a fun game. Badass music too.

Hang onto it? Resell?

Could easily resell and get a Series S, but then I’d be jammed up into only digital and no discs.

What say you NeoGaf?

One X is a good system. The 1 TB storage and disc playing (including 4k movie discs) is what makes it better than Series S. But Series S is a better overall machine for playing games, although sometimes I think tests show One X can play at higher res. But Series S plays more at 60 fps.

The storage issue isn't a factor IF you got an external HDD lying around to store digital games if using Series S. Games played off it will probably be around the same as playing One X quality anyway (not sure but my guess).

If you got an external drive available and dont give a shit about an optical drive to play game discs or 4k movie discs, I'd say get S. For me personally given the two, I'd stick with One X only because I have a bunch of 4k movies and dont feel like buying a 4k player for $200.

But as you know Series S SSD is small. Like 400+ GB after the OS eats some up. So that's not a lot of storage to play Series S quality games. All it takes is you installing some big games like COD and you dont have much room for other big games at Series S quality. But if you play normal kinds of full budget games, you can probably install 5-6 games.

At 125 it is a great buy.

Get RDR2 and Gears 5..RDR2 looks superb and gears runs at 60.
I’ve got RDR2 installing now lol😎

Also cyberpunk looks LIGHT YEARS ahead of the One S

What about Elden Ring? Anyone know if it runs well on One X?

So you seem to lean towards hold onto One X? Personally zero interest in COD. But point taken on the 500gb of series S

I’d get on the series bandwagon now. After 2022 that thing is going to become a paper weight IMO, $125 is a pretty crazy price for what that thing is capable of though.
They didn’t know what they had.

Listed it on marketplace as “Xbox for sale. Need gone asap”

I knew It was a one x obviously

Keep it. Enjoy it. $125 for that is a steal.
The Xbox One X was easily my favorite console of all time as a total package. The difference between it and a One S is night and day. Do yourself a favor and get an external USB SSD and install your top games on it, the One X can actually take advantage of the extra speed (SATA III vs. SATA II).

There are some advantages to a Series S, especially the speed, but the external SSD will partially negate that, and I could never go backwards in resolution.

Besides, Series S consoles will be available for a long time, and will likely drop in price further in the future. There is no rush to get one.

No worries. An external HDD will likely be needed to hold more games. If you got one lying around, it's a non issue. I had one from the Xbox One days, so I just plug it in and it recognized all my games.

But if you got to buy one, a standard external HDD (not the rip off external Seagate 1 TB SSD for $200 US for Series systems) you can probably get a 2 TB drive for under $100.

I only leaned to One X because I already bought it in 2017 and have 4k discs. When MS announced the new systems, Series S was a zero consideration. For my situation, the logical step would be to jump to Series X. And I sold all my One X gear and some old games and got over $400 CDN for it.

Go for a Series S, the loading times alone makes it worth it. I used to be a disc fan too, but you can get the games very cheap from other countries and you have them all on your main account in your language.

Absolutely not worth it, get rid of it ASAP. That's 125$ that could have gone towards a series S/X, which both play next gen games.

The value of that thing is going to tank like a brick the moment Series X consoles become widely available.

That’s what I want. Any link to a good but cheap external SSD to speed things up?

Right. Kinda thinking it’s series X or bust.

Agreed. I’ll sell you my One X for $75. That way I can recoup half my money I wasted

Are people joking about 125 being a good price? Thats half the price of a series s almost for a dead system
You don’t think it’s good? Market value shows it selling for Series S and above prices 🤨 you could hardly score a One S for that. Not to mention the two Microsoft branded controllers worth easily $40 second hand each

Put it up on Ebay. It looks like One X is going for ~$200 US. Make them pay for shipping too. You wont lose money on a One X at $125 assuming you dont hold onto to it too long.

Backward compatibility is the same as the Series X and you can steam 12TF games via XCloud

Series S/X just has the matrix demo and a few other titles if you aren't interested in those I don't see the point of going beyond One X.....This is cross gens prime time

Yea but those prices are for new consoles If the console was purchased new in a store for 125$, then that would be "Okay - ish". You post seems to indicate that this is a used console.

I don't think these controllers go for 40$ each used when new controllers are 50$ - 60$.

I’d only ever do Facebook marketplace

eBay is scam city. Hell no. It’s not what it was 15 years ago to me anymore

$40 vs $60 for a controller. I’ll go 2nd hand $40 myself

Anyhow GameStop sells the One x refurbished for higher than a new Series S. Why?

Also trade in value even at LAME-stop is $180 for a One X

Two main questions after your guys awesome feedback on both sides btw

Elden Ring run ok? I hear It’s a slideshow mess on OG VCR X1

Also… what’s a decent priced SSD that’ll make installs and loading faster for One X?

My two options are:

Flip One X for profit that’s more than double my investment and keep One S

Or.. sell One S and break even but have the One X

Time is money and the faster load times mean less time waiting and more time doing what consoles are actually supposed to be doing... Gaming.

Really? Personally, I avoid used controllers as much as possible. You never know what the previous owner did with them, how much wear there is etc. I've taken a look and I think a new controller is like 50$ at Gamestop right now. 30$ for a used controller is probably more realistic.

Honestly, I have no idea if those used refurbished One X's are even selling at gamestop, cou;dn't tell you. If they do actually give 180$ for a One X then thats just straigth up profit for you, but I have no idea how that practise goes.

Digital Foundry did a video on the One X version here

If you can the One X for 180$ or more, then absolutely do that. An one S really isn't worth that much money, especially with no games.

Personally, I'd recommend selling both and just get a Series X instead.

I think the OneX version is actually fine? I believe it's 30fps locked, but it runs it pretty well.

It’s feasible

Sell One X for say… $250-$275 without issue

Sell one S for maybe $100-$150

Sell couple few games I got or bundle it and either sell controllers individual or bundle

Sniffing Series X territory

I must say though… the One X is 150% better at Cyberpunk after just a couple hours testing (vs One S)

One X is better than the Series S in some ways. I'm still running with it, and only the new games seem to suffer from load time issues. It's a very capable console for the BC enhancement patches. For that price it's a steal. You can always use it for LAN or system link stuff, for multiplayer.

def enjoying it with only a few hours messing around and playing cyberpunk. Light years ahead of X1s

Depends on the country. In Germany they are quite cheap, i would say around 150 Euro on average, sometimes even around 100:
True. But I’m in America and they’re no where close to $150. That’s realistically what you’ll pay 2nd hand for a One S

Why is it becomg a paperweight?

for the sake of 98 pounds (uk) its really not worth selling, ill be keeping my gold rush edition until it dies, wont get much for selling and in no desperate rush to get a series X.

No new native first party games and sub-par third party support for last gen would be my guess?

If you need a 4k blu ray player in a spare room I’d say keep it 100%, but if the primary focus is gaming I couldn’t go back to HDDs. My One S used to take about 60 seconds to cold boot.

I’d rather have the Series S even without the disc drive and storage situation.
