Rumor: Rand al Thor has "heard through the grapevine" that nearly every internal studio at Xbox submitted something for the Xbox Showcase

Even though i put a fair few hours into Battlefront 1 and 2, i'd rather see single player Star Wars games to be honest.
Star Wars has such a rich universe that it seems a bit of a waste to use the license for a multiplater shooter, or BR, etc, without any real story.
Thats just me though.

Sure I can understand that and absolutely there should be those tent pole single player/coop experiences based on detailed stories. That said, there was a brilliant to Battlefront being in the shoes of Star Wars characters and being part of that simulated world. See the weapons, sounds, insane visuals or a power character show up with their abilities was super fucking cool.

I'd love to see that taken into a coop experience, purely because the networking can be so localised and great for you and your friends to playthrough.

Let’s look at last year and see which games were CG and which were gameplay:
- Starfield: in-engine but not gameplay so let’s say CG
- S.t.à.l.k.e.r. 2 : gameplay
- Back4Blood: gameplay
- Contraband: CGI
- Sea of thieves crossover: gameplay
- Yakuza lad: gameplay
- BF2042: gameplay
- 12 minutes: gameplay
- Psychonauts 2: gameplay
- Doom Eternal RT patch: gameplay
- Skyrim anniversary: nothing
- Fallout 76 expansion: gameplay
- ESO expansion: gameplay
- party animals: unclear but looks cgi
- Hades: gameplay
- Sommerville: gameplay
- Halo Infinite: gameplay
- Diablo 2 Resurrected: gameplay
- Plague Tale Requiem: unclear but looks cgi
- Far Cry 6: gameplay
- Slime Rancher 2: gameplay
- Shredders: gameplay
- Atomic Heart: unclear but looks gameplay
- Replaced: gameplay
- Grounded: gameplay
- Among us: gameplay
- Eiyuden Chronicle: gameplay
- The Ascent: gameplay
- Age of Empires 4: gameplay
- Outer Worlds 2: CG
- Flight Sim: gameplay
- FH5: gameplay
- Redfall: CG

So that’s 6 games showed with CG out of 33, or 18%.

What, did you abandon the green rat clan and join up with the blue snakes or something?!?!? :pie_roffles:
No, never. I'm green rat clan for life...but then there's a sect of green rats...the smelly green rats.....they live in the lowest part of the sewer where all the turds reside. The smelly green rats have matted fur and stink really bad...they ruin it for all of us normal green rats that hang out at the top of the sewer and sometimes go chill with the blue snakes and red whatever Nintendo is lol.

Sometimes, we do drink a bit of the sewer water and find our selves having an all night bender in the lower part of the sewer but that's when I wake up and realise I've said or done something stupid and fanboyed out. So I try to avoid that as often as possible....although every now and again you may have a massive rat orgy so that's not too bad....

Basically, i dont like it when fans on any side hype up made up rumours on twitter or podcasts and everyone ends up disappointed to some extent.
Every show I tell myself not to expect much

As the shows get closer I get myself a little more hyped until there is no way the show can live up to my hype

Why do I do this to myself?

I Have No Idea Shrug GIF

I'm exactly the same lol, im my own worst enemy! That's why it annoys me when other fans start making up rumours of what might be shown as I end up spiraling down a hole of hype and can end up disappointed.

Let's be excited that there's some fun times for us all coming up. We get to see some actual excitement about games soon...and not just talks of acquisitions! Yay!

I think people is talking about their first party games, that a lot of times when a new first party game is announced it's done with a CG/In-Engine trailer instead of gameplay/game cutscenes.
For example, in recent years we had them releasing CG/In-Engine trailers for:
- Avowed
- Everwild
- Contraband
- Project Mara
- Fable
- Forza Motorsport
- Perfect Dark
- Hellblade 2
- State of Decay 3
- The Outer Worlds 2

I think the only games in recent years that were announced with in-game stuff were Forza Horizon 5 and Flight Sim so I kinda understand where everyone is coming from and I also can see how some people use that as console wars fuel.

I heard through the grapevine he's just speculation about what people want to hear. This is exactly a type of thing to say that you can't be held accountable. I hope one day we can ban such news from this forum at least.

No other industry does it because consumers in those industries dont get hyped up and preorder products 4 years away unless it's a new house off a blueprint and you got to fight off others buying that dream home.

But some reason in video games, gamers do that and it'll influence them what console to buy to prep up for Sniper Zombie Shooter 8 coming out in 2026.

As crazy as it seems, in 2013 during Xbox One hype, you could had pre-ordered Below for $60 at Future Shop. The game released in 2018 for $30.
You have to be fairly stupid, after everything we know, to pre-order a game that is years away.

But I’m talking about the next showcase, not a mix of different announcements going back to 2019. It’s not a criticism you can make on the last showcase which was over 80% gameplay.

Correct. Marketing manager doesn’t mean he’s got the latest info. It means he’s the marketing manager, and feeding biased hype to YouTube channels like Colt and Dealer is clearly in his remit (as is making a fool of himself on Twitter apparently).

Anyone who has held a corporate job for years knows that even custodians, I.T workers, receptionists, etc who've worked at a company/in a building will indeed know what's going on there (the facts *and* the rumors).

Sorry..but the idea that the head of Xbox Games Marketing wouldn't be privy to "the latest info" is a hard sell.

All of those were teaser trailers. Hardly anyone uses in engine or gameplay in teasers

Your issue is that you're counting old games like Among Us as some kind of MS reveal trailer, I mean honestly that's kind of ridiculous. Now look at how MS games were actually revealed, Avowed, Fable, State of Decay, Outer Worlds 2, Redfall then do a percentage. The only good gameplay reveals were the Forzas which release much closer to the trailer.

Wow now you want to put conditions on an list of reveals? Again those were all teaser trailers. Not actual trailers. Its not difficult to understand

Yep Eastwood is terrible - I remember him talking about a new Wolfenstein game possibly coming by the end of 2020 for example. Whatever gets the hype machime going.

And this guy has his bases covered now whatever happens.

LOL, Emphacy and Triggered are the no ban risc fanboy tools. I think the forum would be a better place with just the Like option.
I thought Empathy just meant "I feel the same," and Triggered was "Hey, you're trash talking something I love." The LOL, I'll grant you, is a troll response, at least the way some use it. On the other hand, sometimes people are funny on purpose, and other times they think they're making a great point while flying their fanboy pants from the flagpole. And sometimes, it's hard to tell what's a joke and what's genuine silliness. Is it not funny either way?

I think the emojis are a good thing, even when over-used by trolls. They let people vent and express themselves without having to clutter up the discussion with a million samey comments. And besides, people are going to think how they think regardless. Making it slightly more cumbersome to express themselves isn't going to make a rabid fanboy suddenly reasonable. If anything, the emojis make them easier to spot. When the same folks are LOLing and LIKEing in chorus, it's pretty easy to spot the pattern.

Personally, I'd like more emojis not fewer. An Eyeroll, for example, would free the LOL from its double duty as the "That's funny"/"Ur dumb" expression. I want a shrug emoji too.

Ok so now it’s only about the first reveals of games and only MS first party? I thought it was about the upcoming showcase like the title of the thread suggests?

The showcase is gonna have a mix of first and third party, especially this year since E3 is dead and there will be fewer conferences overall. There will be GP announcements of existing titles being ported and new titles (like Among Us was). So I guess you’ll have different results if you choose a different metric than « games shown at the showcase » but my point still stands.

One rumor that I hope is true is an AoE 4 port to console (please, have full keyboard and mouse support). I want to mess around with that one more, but my old PC chugs along even at low settings. Maybe throw in a port of the AoE 2 and 3 remasters also. And put them all on GP. That and a good showcase of Starfield and I'm super happy with the show.

I mean you're the one upset and rebutting the initial post of someone else which was about first party game announcements and not liking padding the show with 3rd party yt trailers . So, I'm not sure why you're saying "now it's about" when it was from the very beginning. Again the initial post from that person that set you off, with some highlighted words, in a thread about internal/first party studios:

How much of what's being submitted will actually be gameplay? MS has gotten out of hand with the 'in engine" and CGI trailers announcing games 3-5 years out over the last few years. I miss the days when their shows focused only on what was going to release between now and next year's show. I also miss live gameplay demonstrations, over the last generation MS turned their E3 into basically place to play trailers made for youtube, they were trying to combat the "xbox has no games" narrative by showing every 3rd party trailer they could get so by the end of the show nothing stood out.

So you're the one trying to change the initial point. The only thing that fits what this person wants is ForzaH. They officially show it with a gameplay presentation then release soon after. Other than that everything else is as he described.

I didn’t reply to this post though? I was posting in the thread itself which is about the showcase. So I’m not sure why you’re trying to link my post to his.

Again, my point is: last year’s showcase was mostly gameplay. And it was.

I'm pretty sure It has a different meaning if used by the fanboys. Empathy by a fanboy means "I feel sorry for you" and Triggered means "Uhhh, you are triggered!?". Otherwise i can't explain why some of them use it so often if a post doesn't fit their colour of choice.

Personally i think thumbs up is more than enough, because it's universal for everything.

Their show last year was incredibly lean and devoid of much bloat.

I expect the same this year.

Fair enough. I can see a few bad apples using them the wrong way, but I'd swear more people use those emoji like I do than for trolling purposes. Then again, the vibe/usage may just be completely different in different threads, so IDK.

Personally, I don't think the Thumbs-up is nuanced enough even for positive comments. That's why I like the Brain, Praise the Sun, and Fire as alternatives to just a Like. And, with so many good options, why should every emoji be inherently and totally positive anyway?

As long as we can see who is saying what with each reaction, an Lol, misused Trigger emoji, or even an eyeroll shouldn't be a big deal, IMO. You can't take everyone's opinions to heart, and if the fact that a few fanboys take exception to a post hurts the poster's feelings, then it's probably time to grow a slightly thicker skin. It's when the reactions are anonymous that the trolling becomes a problem.

Just my 2 cents, but I'd hate to lose any of the reactions. *shrug*

Am I missing something but like....wouldn't most years everyone submit something? Or close to it?

Like State of Decay 3 was announced with a beautiful CGI-nothing trailer. So that year they submitted something. I dunno, I find it weird that he's acting like this a big deal when given many of the timelines yeah most studios should have SOMETHING to show.

Xbox and their leakers seem to have a pretty close relationship. Xbox seems to embrace their leakers so I'm sure he has sources, shoot might be Xbox themselves...Hence why Xbox leaks always seem to be true...they just dgaf cause any coverage is good coverage to them.
