So is it like Open Beta, for awhile and then they close if off, Then start it back up again in a couple of months? Or it’s just an on going game service…

My understanding is that it stays open right now, however it's only available to people that tested previously, or get a key via Twitch drops. At the end of the month it will be open to everyone. The game feels good IMO, but open beta works as there's more they plan to add, etc. Probably one of the best Smash-likes yet, IMO. I guess aside from Brawlhalla though I never played that.

Looks pretty fun, I'll give it a try since it's free.
The colored outlines they give the characters looks bad though, makes the characters looks like they don't belong in the world.

Blatant ripoff and I don't care for most of the characters.
They also, imho, don't mix as well as Smash's.

Played it for a couple hours, unlocked velma, she's a lot of fun.
There's three things that keep it from playing exactly like smash:
  • You always run, so movement feels a bit frantic.
  • There's no grabbing characters unless your character has a command grab
  • There's no blocking, only dodge
Aside from that it very much like smash, and it's quite fun.
It definitely needs a balancing pass though, shaggy and taz have some bullshit.

You can change the color of the outline for both enemy, teammates and yourself.

You can also play against bots and it counts as matches played so easy enough to get points to unlock. I unlocked Batman so far.
In the Lab, you can play as any character to help you decide what to spend your gold on.

I think I'll try to get Aria from Game of Thrones next. Or Harley Quinn

Are they shitgating characters or just cosmetics?

Unlocked Superman. He has a bit of a learning curve, but once you figure it out he's really powerful.
Yea, I've seen people playing him and he does appear to be really good especially in solo play.
My only issue is Superman, for me, is the lamest Superhero of the big DC characters. So went with Batman even though he isn't top tier.

Also, for those interested, the max level a character can get is 15. Other than perk unlocks, I don't really know what leveling does.

Yea, the matchmaking is unbalanced unless it is maybe looking at total career stats or something.
Fought a Velma lvl 1 vs my Taz lvl 4, and it was a very close match.

Also, there is a challenge/mission for winning with zero perks. So I turned all mine off for that match.
