You're right, it still running on UE4, but an iteration of UE4 far more advanced than what was available back in 2015. And to your second point, even if it started off as a cross-gen title, there's no excuse for it to look worse than Arkham Knight.

Funny thing is, Arkham Knight is not even an Unreal Engine 4 title. Runs on a heavily modified UE3.

I don't think Gotham Knights looks worse than Arkham Knight, personally. I'm sure DF and other sites will do the analysis and show where the difference lies.

Also, being "next-gen only" doesn't mean much. The Medium is one, doesn't look that great. Upcoming Metal: Hellsinger is not coming to Xbox One/PS4 - probably looks worse than last Doom games. Plague Tale: Requiem is impressive but nothing we haven't seen before. Then you have this new Alone in the Dark game, which at this stage looks like an early PS4 game but apparently will only be available on PS5/XSX/PC.

Ah yes… the Batman game without Batman in it that started as a cross gen game, but got bumped to just current gen with very little sign of significant improvement, and actually looks worse than the seven year old Batman game that actually had Batman in it.

I've owned this game for a few years now and I just installed it last weekend to push my GPU and, fucking wow... the graphics are insane and it seems more optimized and DOING more within each passing frame, than games that do much less and tax the hell out of my GPU. Correct me if I am wrong about the optimization part, but for me, that's been the experience with this game versus others of similar quality.

I also played it again recently and while the character models look good, it hides a ton of "last gen" stuff behind blur and the grainy/high contrast look it has; overall I don't think it looks better than gotham knights, but it still looks nice.

That's a company name I haven't heard in a long while. Used it a few times maybe 10 years ago, but couldn't wrap my head around the fact that I didn't actually own the games and would have to re-order them anytime I had the itch to play a certain title. The model works much better now in the digital era with GamePass.

BUT... the three things that give me extreme pause on this game:

1) Fucking co-op
2) Four protagonists just means the writers and designers split their time on all of them instead of focusing on ONE.
3) Really, really, really looks like a dead open world with no NPCs.

I really don't understand the people being mad at the "no batman" thing. There isn't even batman in the title, is it somehow forbidden to have a game about other heroes in the DC universe than Batman? It happens in comics, in tv shows, in movies, so why not in video games?
Even if it was short, I really liked the various missions with all these characters in Arkham Knight, so I'm actually really interested in a full game featuring them, more than I would be about another game with batman since we already got 4 of them.

well we don't actually know that for sure yet, i mean it would kind of spoil the plot. batman may be playable in the game at some point or maybe he will be added if they are doing any extra content, maybe in new game plus he will be useable . time will tell but i think it looks great and no more awful ragdoll animations when you take people out. that was so immersion breaking in the other batman games.

I want this game to be good but I have no faith.

How in the world is combat going to be both single and coop and maintain a good difficulty unless you have a consistent ai partner if you play solo? Can you just switch players at will? Do they all exist in the city like how gta 5 did?

How do stealth missions work in co op?

The decision to go co-op is going to kill a game like this

Then maybe my eyes are deceiving me but arkham knight looks a ton better but only thing gotham knights has going for it is the clarity, it's a lot more clean looking of the 2, Arkham knight is more grainy but the character models look so much better on Arkham. Gotham characters look like cartoons and not in a comic book way, it looks like a cross between looney toons and realism

Yes, and xbox looks worse at 900p, at least ps4 is 1080 but it never got a pro or one x patch, but on pc at 4k looks amazing, especially with the nvidia smoke effects and rain coming off cape, on pc it looks amazing still. It aged badly at 1080p/900p with the grainy look

Realistically, development continues until release and the game gets a day 1 update. The "golden" version is rarely ever the release version. Standard practice these days.
