Probably depends on their extradition laws. I’ve no idea to be honest, I imagine if they have the source code though R* will want to get that back without it getting in to the public domain. That is their IP/Engine and would then enable competitors to use this to their advantage. A real difficult situation for sure.

USA has extensive extradition agreements in place. And, as someone else mentioned even if they are somewhere where the US doesn't have reach, they could get extradited to the UK or somewhere else that does extradite to the US. The arms of the law are long.

having the source code makes it easier to hack the game and servers. having access to servers could allow them to spread malware and infect your pc.

I don't even like GTA too much but this really sucks for everyone working at Rockstar. Some stuff is from literally few days ago. Every single video has dates on it, and you can also clearly see the game progression in them.

video dates could be just when the files were captured from the servers or saved to his computer. doesnt mean anything

You can read the debug menu and cross check the date the driver was available and when the video title says it is.
99% chance the dates on the videos are the dates they were recorded.
They were atleast captured at around that time.

Anecdotally it looks like the team were at the point of working on locomotion when this hack happened.
or atleast the remote team that had to upload all this stuff.
Most of the videos are movement and area aware stuff and all the latest videos are locomotion tests and debugging.



Latest video ive found so far is from Monday.
Has the latest drivers and the latest "build code".....I cant guarantee that cuz we dont know how R* branches their game.

Nah. There very hight quality environment stuff there. You can pretty much have an idea. In fact this looks very far in development. Other games leaks with literally no textura and stuff. It will look better when releases for sure but I don't expect much. But well see

Thats because they have massive massive repositories of assets they can just inject into the engine for these tests.
Some of the videos are old as fuck and look "better" than the videos from last month, its just whatever the team needed or were checking they could pull assets or ask the art team if they have anything they could use as representation.

Almost the entirety of the leak is mostly locomotion tests.
For whoever is testing they might want the environment to atleast look kinda like a game instead of graybox.
Other members of the team dont mind the graybox environments, which is why some of the videos are literally graybox.
RAGE already has a pretty powerful lighting engine so its not exactly something they would need to tweak much until they reach polish stage, which is probably why the lighting looks very reminiscent of GTAV.....its probably a copy-paste of the TOD settings from GTAV.

It doesn't mean they can't scrap the old versions and fully move over to ps5/SeriesX. The old devkits could have been used as a testing ground for new ideas and just prototyping but then be switched over to take full advantage of the new hardware and add even more functionality.

I think it will be in the best interest for them to release cross gen due to the insane amount of damage this leak has already caused. Grand Theft Auto 5 was made for PS3, and Xbox360. Them making Grand Theft Auto 6 using PS4 and Xbox One as a base is still off to a good start. With PS5 and Xbox Series S|X they can add:

Ray tracing
Performance Mode: 60fps-120fps
Variable Refresh Rate
HDR
High Resolution close to 4k
Implementation of FSR 2.0 or FSR 2.1
Almost no loading times
Seamless transition going different parts of map, inside and outside buildings etc.

I've been witnessing "gaming leaks" for years and I swear I can't think of a single case where it had ANY significant impact on what I thought about a game.
It either was something I was excited about (and the leak corroborated the idea) or it wasn't... and chances are the leak didn't contribute to improve anything.

Hell, I remember playing the "leaked journalist demo" for Deus Ex Human Revolution which I was already anticipating and if anything it was the thing that cemented my interest in buying the game at day one.
