Phil Spencer hints at future Xbox Game Pass or console price increases at WSJ Live

I dont care if anyone drops Xbox or not. Look Hawking said it better than me, what i meant by my Gamepass comments and price. Its you lot what jumped on me 'lolz you want yto pay more', 'lolz yuo want a to give Phil a handjob', and other fanboy drivel.

I have said numerous times over the past couple of year that i expect Gamepass prices to go up, even as high as £20+ in the future.
Here's your insecurity thread for you

I'll never understand price increase logic.
Raise the price, instantly lose millions of subscribers.
Still make the same due to loss of customers.
Sooo what was the point?

Sounds good. GP all loaded up till 2025. 6 years of GP at the additional cost over Gold of $1 for the first 3 years and about $20 for the current 3 years.

$21 for 6 years of GP. Thank you uncle Phil.

Nobody is saying anybody will leave Xbox, that's just in your head.

Right this is more about the constant finger pointing and ‘anti-consumer’ narrative that has been spouted non-stop in the opposite direction when we’ve been saying all along prices are increasing across the board.

Its the xbox pundits that have been echoing “well, nintendo and microsoft hasn’t raised prices so what does that tell you”

Well There It Is Jurassic Park GIF

Nobody expects anyone who’s currently enjoying the microsoft ecosystem to go running for the hills just like no playstation players expected a mass exodus from the price increase. If you enjoy the games and services on that particular platform you’re already locked in.

I saw that Netflix is about to start charging $3.50 a month for every additional profile. So there goes me using my brother's account. I always knew the end of password sharing would come but he was paying the highest tier $20 plan to get additional users so its not like he wasnt paying extra for it. now it's $3.50 a month extra for anyone not using your wifi. So lame.

This is something everyone does. They rope you in with low prices like Netflix and Amazon did to kill their competition, and then boom, prices increased by 2-3x. Netflix literally adding ads. GTFO.

I abuse amazon prime by using new emails, gamepass using $1 subs and netflix i will simply stop using. its trash anyway.

I expect a lot of people to suddenly understand the meaning of words like ‘inflation’, ‘recession, ‘global economy’
The script they would be reading is "market conditions" because it will likely be higher than the inflation percentage increase.

Where did he say that? I'm not saying you're wrong, but I didn't see that anywhere.
"Xbox Games Pass "I think it'll stay in that 10-15% overall revenue, and it's profitable for us""

£4 a month would be an absolutely appalling increase.
That would. It would be a 50% increase. Can see it happening considering they planned to double XBL price before.

When was the last time any popular sub plan like NF, Amazon prime, Spotify, Costco membership etc…. Lost subscribers after a price increase?

Basic business. If you can serve 1 person and make the same amount as serving 100 you should.

Netflix maybe? They could have very well made them back. I thought they lost a few hundred thousand over the summer. I have no idea if it was related to the last price hike or not.

Well, to somehow not think prices will need to increase on these things in the future is exceptionally retarded.

Currency depreciation is real. Inflation rates and costs in the supply chains are skyrocketing.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I think Gold may get phased out completely in the next 12 months and the price increase was just to see how people would react. The backlash was swift enough that they took it back within 24 hours.

I don't think they'll be stupid enough to give game pass a 50% increase. A little les than that maybe, if at all. Rather, they may change tiers, make the $9 tier into $12 and such and add more things like merging Gold into the lowest tier.

Check the embedded tweet in FalsettoVibe FalsettoVibe post

Spencer says he doesn't believe subscription revenue will grow dramatically to something like 70% of revenue. Instead, he says, free-to-play is clearly the most popular business model. Xbox Games Pass "I think it'll stay in that 10-15% overall revenue, and it's profitable for us"

People aren’t as price sensitive as gamers think, subs vs games, vs f2p is all about preference. They could raise GP to 20 dollars and still get gain just as much subscribers, GP is their value proposition they know is being undersold.

For Sony it’s the consoles, for nintendo it’s gonna end up being the games when they release their next console.

Lol who didn’t see this coming, I think they are going to see how much of a effect lower prices have this holiday, then raise the price if it did not have much of effect, what ms don’t understand, it don’t matter how cheap ur console is, if u don’t have the games to back it up.

Increasing prices isn't anti-consumer. It wasn't anti-consumer when Sony did it, and it isn't anti-consumer when Microsoft does it.

It is anti-consumer.

Doesn’t mean it isn’t rational to some degree.

Don’t confuse the 2.

Don’t make this a Sony debate. Look at my post history to see how happy I am with Sony too. I don’t play sides.

Edit: price increase isn’t the only anti-consumer issue with MS. They invented MTx, paid online for gaming, paid subscriptions for services, etc. the most anti-consumer company in the USA to the core.

Every time. How many subscribers they lose in the short and long term are factored into these price bumps.

Apple’s just increased the price of their subscription services. You’re seriously forecasting they’ll lose millions of customers??

Spotify and YouTube Music also.

Amazon prime is a no brainer.
Free shipping alone makes it worth the price because it pays for itself almost immediately.
Costco has bulk stock so that ALSO makes the price worth it.

Ps plus Extra and GP is just blockbuster video minus rewinding and late fees.

Everybody has gone up and we are just supposed to take it. To be fair most of us are. So fuck us for being mindless consumers.

I didn't say millions.

Yes, they surely don’t realize they need games and only bought these studios to make historical documentaries.

I appreciate the sheer comedy value you bring when you try to make these bad-faith comments

Didnt Phil immediately make a tweet following Jim Ryan's PS5 price increase announcement to show just how much of a good guy he is or am I imagining things? How is gonna say something like that and only a few weeks later turn around and say yeah, the price increases are coming.

Anti-consumer used to have a real meaning. Not just a buzzword to complain about everything that doesn't benefit me

Not sure this is a logical response to what I said.
We’re talking about subscription services. Not essentials or standard features or hardware.

Wait.

You mean to tell me, MICROSOFT/XBOX with their history of anti-consumer moves and measures are going to do something… anti-consumer?

And that Phil Spencer lied… again?!

Just curious... Do you expect everything you buy .... Milk, bread, electricity, Spotify, Netflix, broadband, alcohol, petrol..... So stay the same price for your whole life??? You expect those prices to never be raised..... Ever???!!!!

Oh my dear boy your in for a world of dissapointment. Just curious, are you a child or a grown man? I expect this level of thought from a child who doesn't understand life.

You lot creaming yourselves over POSSIBLE price hikes (something that was always going to happen anyway). 'loilz remember when 'x' said 17 years ago 'this', now they are doing the same lolz!!!'.
Its just cinstant insecurity.

It's not a question of if but when. People need to keep that in mind. Plus there's no need to get worked up over this as it's normal for some prices to increase.

Regardless of things like inflation, possible recession in the economy... the price of GPass was going to go up and it was just a question of when.

Even more so when more AAA first party releases begin to arrive and the current price of GPass began to be absurdly low for what was offered.

My bet is that the price increase will apply to GPass and games at $70. Among other things because if you acquire Activision your games will have to adjust to that price.

I doubt that the price increase will affect the console. Even more so when XSS begins to be seen going down and not the other way around.

You mean like… MTx, subscription services for software, requiring payment to play online, etc?

Enjoy that boot?

You are referencing things that actually use other physical goods to produce, which have a supply chain line.

I am talking about servers owned by MS, a monopoly company with infinite riches and studios they set the price for (as a whole). If it is a console price hike, you have an argument sure.

Don’t patronize me with “dear boy” BS. Unlike 99% here I worked in the industry and shook hands with people you drool over. They aren’t special. I have seen how it works.

Not trying to be mean, but MS has a bad history of anti-consumer stuff. Do I consider Spencer literally lying about “not raising prices” 3 months ago anti-consumer? Yes. Yes I do.

Fair?

Edit: I come off kind of rude here, and I apologize. People get very in their feelings in console threads and I feel like both of you simply got a bit hurt in response to me. Didn’t mean it. For the record - I am mad at both the big 2, with less disgust towards Nintendo currently purely for their consistency even if they aren’t always the most consumer friendly.

Have a great day guys. For real. <3.

I am chill, just a bit annoying when you get jumped on with fanboy drivel just because you recognize the value of Gamepass and how the price was always going to rise eventually.

I apologize to my Sony bretheren if i upset you though, its just at least wait for these possible price hikes before congratulting that MS are maybe going to do what everyone else has, or will, also do lol.
