Konami - MGS, Super Probotector/Contra, Castlevania, Suikoden, Silent Hill - so many potentially great IPs.
I believe Konami IPs would still flourish if some top talent worked on them. Unfortunately, we’re having to pin our hopes on Bloober atm.

I’d have Sony Santa Monica develop a new Castlevania game, Housemarque a new Super Contra game and Kojima a new Silent Hill.

Konami

Just getting them to make HD remasters or remakes of their SNES era titles would be fantastic.

And we need a modern entry of this 👀👀👀

You have made a compelling argument.
Perhaps i have judged Konami too harshly. Maybe there is some potential there after all.

Sega actually has studios, devs and talent I care about like Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Atlus.
With Konami you are just paying $5 billion for a bunch of IP.

Also I could just greenlight an official AO Rule34 Sonic game and make back the 5 billion with a single game.

Konami hands down; gonna roll a blunt and hit up Hideo and that head transplant doctor and make METAL GEAR SOLID VI: 6: Big Trouble in Little Zanzibar

Now V(alenciano) can REALLY come to!

I love Sega more than Konami, but it is a really tough choice to make. I could even say that we live in a world that both exists, but that's not really true...

Sega by a distance, after all they were the game-changers, had it not been for their Virtua Fighter....Sony's playstation might have been a different beast...

you no longer have a choice. you can now only purchase konami

Come on, think about it.
I can bring back Skies of Arcadia, Panzer Dragoon, Golden Axe, Valkyria Chronicles, Burning Rangers, Shining, etc.
And I can focus on making them awesome without having to worry about mass market appeal and "expanding the audience" because in the back I'm making ridiculous amounts of money with some of the nastiest, most nauseating DLC for Sonic Shlong

Konami.

And here's why, there isn't a Sega IP out there that I personally would want more than new entries in Konami's stable of dormant IP.

Castlevania
Metal Gear Solid
Silent Hill
Gradius

Plus these bangers...
Contra
Suikoden
Goemon
Star Soldier
Twin Bee
Bomberman
Zone of the Enders

Those first four are some of my favorite franchises ever. Would be one helluva scoop. Here's the thing, if I had been asked this a few years ago, I probably would've said Sega...but then we actually got Shenmue 3 and then Rez and even Cosmic Smash in VR. Sure, updates to some of the dormant classics like Panzer Dragoon or Outrun would be amazing, but I am really jonesing for a new Castlevania, MGS, Silent Hill...and for the love of all things holy, Gradius VI.

That being said, if I were out to simply just make money, it would probably be Sega.

If I were Microsoft, I'd buy both.

nope. Only Konami. leave the blue hedgehog alone

(having Jet Set and Crazy Taxi back would be awesome, though)

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Sega.. But not because of the business. I just wanna exploit the shit out of their franchises. Even the "supposedly" worthless ones, like Panzer Dragoon and Shenmue.

Konami is worth way more than $5B.

And for that money, I'd rather get Ubisoft (worth a little over $4B, if paying a 40% premium over their $3B market cap) and put them back on track.

As much as I love some of the Konami IPs, Sega has even more that I love, and so many that they haven't done ANYTHING with in SO longer. So, I'd definitely go with them.

Sega has Sonic, Shenmue, Yakuza, Skies of Arcadia, Virtua Fighter, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Binary Domain

Konami has Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, Silent Hill, Bloody Roar

Those are the IP's I like from them. I'd pick Sega
Take all the time in the world to put out an actual competitor to Mario again with Sonic, give shenmue enough budget to improve the combat to something close to a mix between sifu and devil may cry, keep yakuza the same, remake skies of arcadia, make virtua fighter a tekken competitor again with characters from sega IP's like shenmue and streets of rage, make a ninja gaiden like shinobi and make Binary Domain the next mass effect.

If I'm given $5bil, then it's Konami. I love so many of their brands (was never a SEGA kid somehow, ) they have stuff I'd like to see remastered as well a get a sequel, they're frustratingly not making videogames as much as i want anymore and so maybe $5b would change their minds...

If I'm given $5bil to run a business and generate a profit, however, SEGA and Sonic are the answer.

Sega and it's not even close to me if I'm looking to get the most value for my money. They actually have development teams to make their games. They have quite a list of well-known IP with a fair few of them still going. Konami's IP pretty much all require some kind of revival and the one that is their biggest, Metal Gear, would be pretty risky to do without Kojima. Sega also just seems to have IP that touch a wider variety of genres. Spending $5 billion on Sega is, to me, a no-brainer when the alternative is a company with no real developers, all of their IP are either dead or on life-support, and fewer of them are as well known. Now, if I were to make the decision based purely on which has franchises that suit me personally, then it would be Konami. But Sega makes far more sense to me as a business move.

I would have agreed with this a decade ago, but Yakuza and Persona have trumped MGS and Castlevania for me, in term sof value of IP.
Persona 5 has basically become the 2010s version of FF7 in terms of sheer popularity. the fucking RERELEASE of P5R on PS5, XBSX and Switch got a 95 on metacritic & the game's sold 10 milion copies

you're telling me Konami's the better option here?

the funniest part is that Yakuza and Persona are only a tip of the iceberg of sheer quality content Sega has to offer

Exactly.

Konami. They would be cheaper. Let the pachinko division do their thing and license out the ips to trusted studios.
Let Sony make a new silent hill.

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I'd buy Fortnite.

Ok next question.
How are you going to raise the other $27B you'd need to get in order to afford Epic?

Konami as a whole is worth about 5 Billion. Konami the video gaming division isn’t worth anywhere close to that. they have zero dev teams.

Selfishly, Konami because I would like to see their franchises get made again. Sega will make games whether they are bought or not.

Well, if we're talking videogame divisions only, then OP's question becomes irrelevant: you could buy both the videogame divisions from both companies for $5B.

Are you asking just on which would make better videogames? Because, Konami isn't even primarily a videogame company. I'd have to assume Konami is the better choice.

Tough choice.

Konami so I could make them revive Vandal Hearts, or Sega so I could tell Atlus to make Devil Survivor and Etrian Odyssey. Hmmm

I doubt you'd get Sega for that price seeing that they are at $2.5-3b a year in revenue, if that was the going rate for it that would be my choice though.

Metal Gear Solid imo is an overrated series made by an overrated game director who couldn't make it in the movie industry. So instead he came and bored us with his shit story-telling in games. Silent Hill is a shit Resident Evil and Castlevania died a long time ago. There hasn't really been a good one since Order of Ecclesia. Lords of Shadows was shit and LoS2 was even shittier. Most of the good Konami games were licenses like TMNT, Tiny Toon Adventures and few others. Other goods non licenses Goemon, Parodius, Twinbee, Vandal Hearts, Gradius and Suikoden.

Now when you jump over to Sega, they are just littered with great IPs

Panzer Dragoon
Out Run
Vector Man
Guardian Heroes
Bayonetta
Vanquish
Daytona USA
Sega Rally
After Burner
Virtua Fighter
Virtua Racing
Virtual On
Fighting Vipers
Last Bronx
Ristar
Nights
Gunvalkyrie
Astal
Streets of Rage
Wonderboy
Skies of Arcadia
Shining Force
Phantasy Star
Virtua Cop
House of the Dead
Condemned
Super Hang On
Columns
Gunstar Heroes
Super Monkey Ball
Binary Domain
Shinobi
Alex Kidd
Golden Axe
Ecco
Space Harrier
Beyond Oasis
Dynamite Headdy

And the list doesn't include any of their PC exclusive offerings and Atlus catalogue.

A lot of people here don't seem to realize Sega owns Atlus. Sega+Atlus has so many ips, and unlike Konami they're still relevant games, not has been games from like 30 years ago, you Konami grandpas need to go to bed.

Honestly I think Sega+Atlus could easily release a successful new console if they hand the funds. They'd rake in Japan+weebs with all the bad will Soyn has been piling up, and there huge weeb catalogue it'd be an easy homerun.
