Redfall is launching on Xbox consoles with Quality mode only (4K30FPS) - 60fps to be patched in at some future point

And yet all you are really going to get is more pixels.
I'll even take that over more frames.
You won’t get that, you’ll just get the same games with a native 4K image slaughtered with motion blur to hide the stutter.
And people laugh when I say the industry lacks talent/ambition.

Eventually some dev will pull out all the stops.

GTA 6, im looking at you.

I dont do console warring or PC master race stuff, ima guy with a ps5/switch oled/series x/4090 and a back up system with a 4080

But this looks stupid, it just does. Call it what it is

I'll be there on day 1 on the PC, which is what I planned anyhow - but this just seems off

Do we even know what the console versions look like at this point?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
On mid spec PCs? What’s that, i5 and 2070?
Either way I don’t understand what happened here. Is it UE4 or UE5? Shader struggle related? Data streaming related? VRAM bound? Why is it struggling? DF needs to visit Arkane and have a serious talk.

For the longest time I also thought this was a UE5 game.

But in a recent interview they straight up said this is UE 4.2

Why even bother? Just wait. If you play it at launch it’ll 100% make your first impression worse and if you keep playing your first playthrough will be worse as well. Then when the 60fps patch is there you might be over the game already.

I seriously hate having to play bad versions of games just because I want to be there day 1, this unfinished launch thing needs to stop. I hope critics absolutely slaughter the game unless it somehow miraculously deserve praise even if it runs objectively bad for a shooter in 2023.

I'm so far behind on games that's good advice........

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
The games I enjoy playing most are objectively more enjoyable when they look better.

Horizon Forbidden West. Imagine choosing to play that in the second best-looking mode available
the problem with 30 fps is that, most of the time there are more input lag or delays when running games at 30fps.
60fps will make your control alot smoother.

And alot of times the 30fps dont even stays at 30fps. With 60 fps at least we still get 50fps worst case scenario.

Yes, we should totally promote the early release of clearly unfinished games because of the promise that they would fix it later!

What's the difference in releasing the game on release day and launching a 60fps patch a few weeks later... and delaying the game a few weeks to release it with the 60fps patch? For you it won't make any difference, since you will be waiting for the 60fps patch.

Are you so self-centred that you want everyone to wait simply because you don't want to play on 30fps?... well, some people don't mind playing it on 30fps, so why should they wait a few extra weeks?

Yes, what is the difference and point of waiting until a game is finished before launching it and not releasing an unfinished game first and fixing it later?

Seriously mate, use your brain.

Actually, you should try using your brain. I'm assuming the game will be finished by May, 2nd... they will simply add extra features later on, just like countless other games out there.

By your logic, every game should be delayed indefinitely until the developers run out of ideas and stop adding extra features on the game.

Comparisons to Deathloop are kinda misguided tbh, that game's structure (singleplayer or 1v1 multi, separate levels that you choose from a hub menu) makes it far easier to optimize, it's just a completely different challenge here.

In this case hopefully there is an avenue for then to delay the game and improve things where necessary (which is a lot of places).
They're not gonna delay the game when they just ramped up marketing for it, especially given how badly they are hemorrhaging in console market share as well.

And yet I find HFW and just about every other game to be more enjoyable with higher frame rate. So much for your "objectively more enjoyable" nonsense.

A promised feature isn't some post launch update. Don't be disingenuous.

I can't say that I'm surprised to see some folks defending the decision in here. It's no wonder why MS will get away with it.

Also obligatory "Dishonored died for this"

As someone who picks quality over performance, I can't say I'm too bothered.

I think we now know why Redfall got delayed, and quite possibly should have been delayed again, but I think MS chose not to delay it again, but rather Patch in a new mode down the track.

The least they can do is ensure the 30 FPS is properly frame paced at least. 30 FPS modes in UE4 console games are generally almost always with bad frame pacing.
If it's anything like Gotham Knights (its closest analogue imo), then it might not be.

Crossing fingers that Arkane survives this tbh.

Honestly, outside of hardcore gamers and gaming forums, do casual gamers even care or notice about 30 vs 60 fps?
Especially if they are not buying the game, but instead playing it on Gamepass.

I always figure people want the best-looking game on their 4K-HDR Tv with stable framerate.

I think people do notice the difference in frame rate. They may not know how to describe what they’re seeing but they’ll say things like “it’s clearer” when referring to 60fps or higher.

That would be more acceptable if the game was doing something mindblowing.

No 60fps for this game is quite surprising, I would have expected an option on launch day.

Im happy for you.

Time and time again the answer has proven to be no.

Starfield will probably run at 30 and sales will be fantastic.

And how has this been proven?
Because some of the best selling and most critically acclaimed games in history have ran at 30fps.

No one outside of twitter is going to say "oh my god 30fps im not buying this trash" lol. They won't even know.

Publishers know this, hence why reputable names in the industry are preparing people for more 30fps games as the gen gets more demanding games
