Star Wars Jedi: Survivor |OT| - Judge me by my file size, do you?

I like the game. It’s very good looking and great audio. However, I hate fighting more than 1 enemy at a time. I never seem to be able to grasp what to do. All my attacks are always interrupted by blaster shots from enemies and the input lag at 30fps makes it feel like I’m always one button press ahead of what’s going on the screen so it’s very confusing.

About 3 hours in and the game, even aside the performance issues, just really isn’t drawing me in like the first one.

The first one was immediately satisfying and impressive. The pacing was fantastic.

This game is just very hum ho early on, and boring me.

I may try it again once more but if it doesn’t pick up fast I’m dropping it altogether.

I'm about 12 hours, doing tons of exploration, and I'm really enjoying the actual game so far. But holy shit was this game not ready for release, on ANY platform. Koboh just fucking chugs when you're exploring the world, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm between 10-15 fps in that section. The fps drop during cutscenes is jarring, and I ran into a bug today that corrupted my only save, and I almost lost all my progress. Thankfully I was able to recover.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Story spoilers....

Merrin has powers and abilities that are better than most Jedi or Sith. She can teleport, reverse time when it comes to broken objects, animate the dead, cloak ships, etc. Who needs Jedi or Sith when you have Dathomir witches?

The IQ is incredibly blurry on PS5. Hoping that will be improved with a similar jump on fidelity like we saw with Dead Space in January. It doesn't help that it's blurry and hitching on both quality/performance.

Really excited to keep playing now that I'm on the second planet though. The intro was pretty awesome on the first planet.

Are you still on Koboh? I had this issue too honestly. But my intrest picked up sigmificantly after some story beats after Koboh.

The production value of traveling around has been pretty good. Some of the bosses don’t feel like bosses, but nothing to really complain about. For whatever reason, it makes me wonder how FFXVI is going to turn out.

The environments are so so good in this game. Each new location is awe inspiring! Devs have done a great job creating this Star Wars universe.

Well Ff16 has gone gold as far as I'm aware so they have months for further polish. It also will release just on the ps5 at first which probably makes it a bit easier.

Okay tuning HDR helped with the visuals a lot - apparently it's pretty much borked on every platform imaginable so go into the settings and try and get it settled down. When you get it right it dials down the video game look and things look a bit more natural.

Played with the performance mode for a bit, but utlimately went back to the locked 30fps mode. 120hz compatible 40fps mode seemingly would be ideal for a game like this. But then again I think I support that mode for pretty much every action game out there outside of fighting games.

I find it weird that at times this game seems more cinematic than the Disney trilogy. Some really nice storyboarded cutscenes/sequences so far.

I suppose you're not supposed to be tackling the rancor so early in the game? He chops my ass so easily.

Yeah that's my guess (I suppose you encountered it in
mines of koboh
?

I decided to come back for it but can we even fast travel between planets? In case I leave here and want to come back for it later on?

Id play this game when they fix atleast the quality mode. I dont hold my breath for a solid perf mode and i dont want to play this with that rough image quality.

Hours in and I just realized I can force pull enemy shields and use them as a shield myself. It’s a neat touch.

Yeah that's my guess (I suppose you encountered it in

Just fast travel to the Mantis and go to the planet you want from there.

You can tackle it when you first encountered it. I managed to beat it, but took me multiple times.

Don't know about the fast travel between planets, should be possible since it was something that you could do in Fallen Order.

Just got the crossguard stance, easily one of my favourite stances now. But ffs why does he have to run like a gimp when using it, as if the lightsaber is actually heavy or something? -_- Thought i'd get to hold it all cool like Qui-Gonn or even the way Kylo holds his but no. Much sad.

Christ, that Rancor fight is awful. Someone at Respawn needs to call FromSoft to ask for some tips on how to design boss fights that aren't terrible.

Nice, I'm playing on the difficulty below and yea, I cannot get the timing down yet, I'll get back to it with a few more powers
Went back and killed it before leaving this planet, a lot better with a bit of practice

I really don't like how weightless movement and especially jumping looks... And that copy/paste wall run too.

The character feels completely disconnected from the ground, I guess it requires some knowledge they don't have to avoid that in a third person game.

One would think that segment would be very important in a AAA Star Wars title.

It’s like the claymore of sabers, right? I like it and then I feel like Kylo didn’t have a problem with his.

I just got it too and immediately went into the move set to see if there’s anything more special about it. We will see how it goes.

I feel like it's impossible on grand master difficulty. I am all for a challenge, but unless you get something later on in the game, you can't even dodge these attacks.

I mean I get what they're going for with the slower, "heavier" moveset, I just don't like the idle stance or the running animation while he's holding it. It's totally nitpicky but I just think it looks a bit shit, when he could have been holding it out to his side or something.

The consoles have as many problems as the PC port. This isn't the case of a pc port not getting enough attention and resources, it's a game publisher releasing a game that wasn't finished.

So are the cutscenes locked to 30fps or are they also 60 in performance mode?

As per the DF video that just got uploaded on the tube:

In the (default) 30fps resolution mode, resolution scales dynamically from 972p (45 percent of 4K) at worst to 1242p at best (looking directly up at the sky, 57.5 percent of 4K). Cutscenes offer more resolution, at up to 1440p.

As you might expect, the 60fps performance mode uses a lower range of internal resolutions, with menus suggesting a 1440p target (in comparison to a 4K target for resolution mode), but actual pixel counts revealing numbers between 648p and 864p upscaled with FSR 2 to 1440p. It's rare to see sub-720p internal resolutions on PS5 as we do here, but cutscenes do at least switch to a 30fps cap and therefore run at higher resolutions.

Juat got to the second area. Jesus I went on a media blackout right up to release. This area seems pretty big, wasnt expecting a semi-open world area like this. It runs like dogshit but fucking hell this is next level environment art. They nailed the feel of Star Wars here.

Im assuming this is the main bulk of the game I'm ar now, it almost reminds me of elden ring in the sense that little things are hidden everywhere.

I hope they can sort the dodgy performance out at some point. This is a huge step up from the first one, and what a cool surprise to find such a large area to explore!

Only problem I have is with dodging and parries right now. Maybe should increase fov to widest?
I’ve left it at normal because of the fear of what it would do to the frame-rate setting it to wide.

One thing is when trying parries, sorry if this is obvious, but hold it a bit so you at least get the block if you’re too early, and prepare for the next block/parry.

My crutch this whole game has been the double-bladed stance and the the vortex dive skill, basically it goes from blocking straight to a frontal dash that practically doubles as another dodge while attacking. It makes it so I can concentrate on the parries, so even if I accidentally block on a red attack I keep it held down and hit attack before it goes off, so I’ll either break the red attack with a guard break or land behind them out of the way if aimed properly while still hitting them.

It can be used to cut down distance too: Sprint, jump, double-jump, dash, land, vortex slash.

The problem is that it runs at a stable 30 fps in that level, but will drop below 30 fps (by a lot) in the open world level. So good luck lol.

And yes, the details in that level are definitely a step up from last gen games. reminded me of ratchet's futuristic town, albeit at a reduce graphical fidelity.

What about people who complain about gamers complaining about games?
So it falls from 30 too? Is it frequent?
