Final Fantasy 16 UK physical sales beat Diablo 4's and Dead Island 2's

FFXVI - 'Fantasy'

Seems like a great start, which will continue as more and more people get hands on a PS5.

Also, I had to ...

How are those excuses? 😄

I stated facts:

- This is a PS5 only release (less platforms; less dev costs)
- Digital is now bigger than it used to be.

It seems like you want to convince yourself that FF16 is now suddenly a flop lmao.
Likewise it seems like you want to convince yourself that it's some smashing success. Like others said, more data will paint a more accurate picture.

IDK if it's a fair comparison.
FF16 you will play once and resell or trade in.
D4 you could play for years with seasons and all, digital makes more sense there.

Edit: spelling.

Find it hilarious how this whole conspiracy theory started from that awful "journalist/insider" Imran Khan who is notorious for getting nothing right.

But because it was anti Sony (not picking sides here, if it was an anti Xbox argument, Sony fans would've done the same), warriors on the internet went wild with it.
I don't think we can use these boxed sales as proof for or against what Imran said.

When did I decline that notion? of course, the more data we get the better picture we'll have.

FFXVI - 'FF16'

That is an impressive feat and points out to a huge success. If further data invalidates this, then so be it. But as of now, it seems like a resounding success so far.

Imran actually gets lots of things right.

It's also a $70 game, so revenue will be much higher than the previous game. They don't need to sell the same, unless you are tracking units to units only.

Interestingly the game was discounted almost 20%* and bundled with some goodies day 1 in my supermarket, not the best sign of confidence.

Also I didn’t expect it to be below Jedi Survivor launch week, woah.

*17.5% to be completely accurate

Pretty stupid flex. Lets be realistic here, Diablo 4 is a multi platform release. FF16 is currently a PS5 exclusive. FF16 has no shot in beating D4 in overall sales.

Final Fantasy will end up selling more than Starfield.

You certainly don’t believe in the subtle approach when it comes to these warz.

Not a fair comparison vs Star Wars. It’s a much bigger franchise/IP, and was a multiplatform release.

Diablo 4 was on 4 consoles and FF16 beat Diablo 4. What does that say?

You're expecting an honest response from the fearmongerer? 🤣

Final Fantasy will end up selling more than Starfield.

As awesome as XVI is and has been impressing so many (and performing well on sales charts)...c'mon, even I would say it's not going to outsell Starfield.

Though I think lifetime sales will be closer than some want to admit. Sticking to 14-15 million max for Starfield (without PS & Nintendo ports), and that could go lower if PC Game Pass is a popular method for people accessing the game on that platform.

Meanwhile I think FF XVI lifetime will probably tap out around 11 - 12 million including PC (and I don't expect that version to launch until at least Summer 2024), though they could hit 13 million. Majority of those would obviously be on PS5 though.

He wasn't implying it would? Talk about a dumb flex :/

It was lower than 15 on ps4 which was also on two consoles. 😢
But 15 was also cheaper as it predated the £70 games, and with lower inflation in economies would have been getting picked up for somewhere in the £45-60 range online.

I haven't pulled the trigger on the FF16 because I don't like to pay more than £50 for games unless I've been waiting for them specifically and followed the development. I know I'm going to love this game, but want to see where the price lands when the £70 FOMO price wears off.

Diablo 4 should be a digital heavy game though. But lower than RE4 is not great as RE4 was only a remake and this is supposed to be a fully fledged FF title.

I love the game but this really doesn't mean anything. Wait until actual sales figures are released by Square. It took 11 days after FFVII:R's release before Square announced it sold 3.5 million. If we don't hear anything within a couple of weeks, then it's probably a safe assumption it sold less than FFVII:R

Also there's this...

It already did in physical sales which is kind of impressive to be honest, or perhaps bad for Diablo 4.

I would imagine Diablo got a lot of digital sales on the 5th platform (PC) though so you'd be right that it probably has no chance overall.

Anybody who thought this game wouldn't sell well is a moron. Pre-release opinions were overwhelmingly favorable and it looked like the best FF game since FF XII.

In physical sales, in the UK. That's pretty specific. The majority of Diablo's playerbase is also on PC.

Nice but this really doesn’t tell us anything. It’s already been shown that physical sales are pretty abysmal in the UK across the board and only make up a fraction. Not saying the game flopped because it’s obvious it hadn’t but saying this is the evidence why isn’t a gotcha moment like you presented it as OP.

I mean I’m not an expert on stuff he gets right and wrong but he was pretty spot on about Sony trying to grab Starfield (timed or full exclusivity) before Microsoft purchased Zenimax. He could have been right on this too, I think it’s just dumb console war fodder to fuel warriors, unfortunately.
