I am the real user experience. Part of twitter is being able to freaking read twitter. If you want to post, you have to sign up. If you want to read, you don't. Imagine if all GAF threads were made invisible to everyone lurking?

Scraping data? Boo hoo. You run a social media site. "Scraping data" is your entire business. Should that only work in one direction? Loads of people read twitter who don't want to sign up for an account, and you've just devalued the crap out of your product because of this change.

Bottom line, if your interaction with twitter was as a lurker, and you actively don't want a twitter account, you're screwed unless you reluctantly and resentfully create an account. Not the best way to start people off as customers. And Musk wants people to use his site for video? And to make money as a creator? And to sell ads? WTF is he thinking here?

Just stop making things worse! How hard is it to not screw up what was already working?

I would think WAY more people read twitter posts than the amount who actually have accounts, and this action devalues the reach of everybody's posts considerably.
