[Corridor Crew] We try Fixing Faces in Video Games

In case you don't want to watch it, here are just a few examples with the fixed faces shown in the video:

Alloy looks a lot better but the Final Fantasy and Street Fighter characters look awful IMO.
It completely falls apart in uncharted removing all the handkeyed animations. they point out how this tech will improve the faces where the devs put in zero effort into animating because they are RPGs with tens of thousands of lines of dialogues.

Thats why starfield, mass effect, and fallout look so much better because their baseline is trash compared to other games.

Makes sense, I would absolutely welcome it for those huge ass RPG NPCs.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not. The Facemorph clip has all detail scrubbed away and the expressions look extremely robotic.
the detail is gone, but the face still looks more realistic.

same thing happens with elana. all those ND facial animations are gone, and yet the face still looks better. im sure they will figure out a way to retain that after the AI pass.

I much prefer the uncanny valley originals over the freshly botoxed Instagram plastic doll filter AI versions.
They just look out of place and somehow more fake than the originals because every bit of facial detail is gone.

Only Starfield and L.A. Noire look better. The rest looks weird. This AI shit is useless. I haven't seen the video but i can imagine how it'll be.
Agreed, the Uncharted ones in particular are messed up, but 'ooooh', 'aaaah' until they see it animate and then... 'ah...', I don't think they realise that many games could go the very realistic route but they choose not to mainly to eliminate the uncanny valley issue. Even many CGI films do this and they have a practically unlimited poly budget.

You guys flopping back and forth in opinion between 'this is good' and suddenly 'this is bad' just need to realize two things:

1) This was experimental. They most likely whipped this up in a day, a few days, or a week at most
2) This experiment works better on a case by case basis, which is why Sarge from Halo looked better, Agent 47 looked better, and Barrett from FF7 looked better, but Cloud looked worse.

Absolutely horrendous jesus christ, all detail scrubbed away, edge compositing shimmering, animation compressed (the eyebrows barely move), and her left eye is just completely unhinged from the rest of the morph, it's completely confused on where to look, the way it stays in place while the original looks to the side it just disgusting.

Tell us how you really feel? 😅

Looks good sometimes, and awful others. Seems to work pretty decently on games where the little details are poorly animated, but otherwise it breaks a lot of the animation around the mouth and eyes which makes it seem very fake and plastic looking.

I don’t think it looks better at all.

Outside of what they’ve done here. I’m interesting to see if it can help if a game is designed around it.
Like drop a lot the details of the face in 3D and let AI fill up everything. Will it be ok with the light and so on?
