[Insomniac]Miles Morals will be the main Spider-Man going forward

If you played the first Spider-Man, you are not missing much (gameplay wise). And it's not even arguable: the first one has better story, writing and pacing.
Maybe its the old get off my lawn man coming out in me but I just don't want to play this new universe crap.

I haven't even opened my SM2 and might just return it to Gamestop

I have other more interesting games to play that doesn't have agendas

Bleh. I can't stand Miles Morales. Peter Parker is Spiderman. I get that this is essentially a race swap and 'b-b-but it's the multiverse' or 'b-b-but the comics said it was okay', but I don't care. The same way as Doctor Who isn't a woman or a gay black guy, Spiderman is Peter Parker.

Still haven't played SM2 yet and don't even really want to honestly, especially now

Peter Parker is Spiderman

Yup, same here. Really want to play SM2 but i have a hard time justifying it. I just can't reward woke propaganda with my money or time.

Even tho Peter Parker is cringe lord himself i can’t stand miles he’s even worse, i mean they used a voice actor who sounds like a 5 year old FFS. 🤦‍♂️

Their version of Miles is lame af. Miles in Into The Spider-Verse is much better.
Completely agree with this. I don’t have any problems with Miles Morales as a character. The Spider-Verse Miles is great. However, I find Insomniac’s iteration of him to be pretty weak. Marred by poor writing and the need to use him for pandering. I never felt like the Spider-Verse movies were pandering but Miles in his standalone game and this one were purely there to tick off DEI objectives.

Unfortunately all of Spider-Man 2, and especially the second post credit scene, was leading to this. Honestly, unless they radically improve the open world stuff and make some more changes to combat, I probably won’t pick up the next game anyway. After SM and SM:MM, SM2 having a lot of the same elements had me running into a burnout wall by the third act. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Uh OP...wouldn't the thread title itself be a spoiler since it implies one of two things happens to Peter?
Not necessarily. I saw it as more of a general statement that could be made even without any context of Spider-Man 2. Reason being that they introduced him in the original, gave him his own spin-off and made him a main part of the sequel, it seemed obvious that he will take the mantle sooner rather than later. I thought most here would be on the same page. However, I will choose my titles more carefully next time.

I figured they would have miles be the lead of the story and have peter show up for the B story in the game. Plus with the hint of the bad guy at the end of the game, it would make sense peter will still be around like miles was in this one.

The thing for me is that I can’t even relate to this ”woke” word. It’s so US centric. And I’m really not living anywhere near the US or even near any big city where gender politics and BLM and sexual preferences etc might be talked about more. So when things are pushed hard it seems reeeeally out of place from my perspective.
But a good game is a good game. I’ll play it eventually. But maybe BG3 is better as a Christmas game for me.

Peter's story will finish in the trilogy. Which is typical of how writers close out stories.

They seem to be teasing other Marvel projects and this is where I believe he will be the "Main Spider-Man" moving forward and not in Spider-Man 3.

while agendas may very well be part of it, all i know is that, after completing & somewhat enjoying the original game, i've tried & failed to get into the miles morales game 3 times now. leading me to conclude that insomniac's bright, clean, cheerful, always positive/upbeat n.y.c. based spidey just ain't for me...

You are taking a few minor points about a game you haven't even played and extrapolating it for the entire experience.

The whole "woke" nonsense basically boils down to a few non-narrative missions that involve a gay couple or a deaf girl.

In a 30 hour experience, it's like 30 minutes total. Do I think it's needed? No. Do I think it's pandering? Yeah. Does it change the fact that it's the best superhero game made with some fantastic villains, combat, and emotional beats for the main cast? No.

Pretty sure I know how this goes.

Miles take Peter’s role whilst Cindy takes Miles’.

Miles and Cindy end up in some sort of serious trouble.

Peter comes out of retirement to save/help them.

Then it wouldn’t exactly shock me if they end up killing him at the end of the third game.

I get what Insomniac were going for with Peter retiring given being Spidey has hampered his personal life, but making him 25 and doing that and us only playing as Peter for 2 of those 8+ years hasn’t really had the impact I think they intended the end of the second game to have.

I just found myself liking the idea of playing it more than actually playing it leading up to launch

Then like someone else mentioned in another thread I was considering holding off playing it until the PS5 Pro rolled around

The couple of missions you mention really don't bother me near as much as the idea of moving away from the Peter Parker SM to Miles, that just doesn't feel right to me

Lets be honest, the Peter Parker Spiderman story has been used and abused. Theres only so many different story lines you can create when you're using the same characters over and over. Insomiac probably feel like they have the oppostunity to create a new Spiderman timeline with Miles. Then they can pivot from that and create a new universe that still involves Peter.

Trust me, once you play it you won't want to stop. It's highly addictive and the perfect holiday game. There's a reason it has a 90+ MC. It's a fantastic game.

Not sure if the PS5 Pro will really add anything to the experience, I'm getting a PS5 Pro but I'm not going to wait on every single game that's coming out now just to play it with some better RT or resolution. The title, visually, looks amazing.

As for what they mean with the title moving away from Peter Parker to Miles...I don't know what to take from that. There's not much context in it. The ending doesn't really say much either. I can say that I don't really care as long as it's a good game, but I don't really see why they'd need to take time off Peter when Spider-Man 2 struck a really good balance between Miles and Peter.

I think Miles is awesome in the spider verse movies. I wish they used that voice actor. I jist don't like insomniacs choice of actor. It's harsh on the dude because he does a decent ish job but I'm not a fan of his delivery and cadence. I'll still play them though as he had such awesome moves

The first game was the best and the they got progressively worse for me. I suppose it's mostly due to the fact that I grew up with the Spider-Man comics from the 80's and haven't been up so date since then.. So the whole Miles Morales thing feels really out of place for me.

The classic villains and heroes are the coolest too so the more recent ones have no appeal at all to me.. 🙄

Venom though! 😍

The point of that message wasn’t that anyone can literally be Spider-Man. It’s that anyone can choose to do the right thing. Peter is just like anybody else but this great power was thrust upon him. He acted like a selfish dickhead at first, but learned the weight of responsibility that came with this power.

The problem for me is how Marvel and by extension Insomniac misinterpreted that message to Spider-Man into a brand while putting Peter Parker, the driving force of the character, in the back seat (if not outright shoving him out of the car).

TBF, when Stan Lee was talking about Spiderman and that 'anyone' could be him, he did actually allude to who was under the mask, too. Not just whatever the person engaging with the material happens to be.

So I guess if anyone can pretend Spiderman is any color (or even a different gender) under the outfit, by extension they can picture them not looking like Peter Parker out from under the outfit, too. And like said in the clip, that wouldn't have been through an intentional design choice by Stan & Kirby back in the day, but something does tell me they'd be a lot less apprehensive towards making someone like Miles Spiderman than some of the people I've seen online upset by it.

Which is wild: when the actual creators are more willing to accept something than some of the fans. Of course, it all comes down to the reasoning and if a replacement were say poorly written, then it stands to reason that Stan, Kirby etc. wouldn't want them as the new Spiderman either, exactly because of poor writing. Then you'd see the fans who only care about representation above storytelling throwing a hissy fit :/

While enjoyed Spider-Man 2, it was predictable. If people want the same story told many times then that's fine, but a lot of people want to see something different.

mixed feelings on this

In the comics, they share the universe and I liked how the games continued that

Doesn’t always have to be one is alive and the other isn’t

Spider-verse Miles is awesome, he had style and substance in the first movie(haven't seen the sequel yet). Insomniac Miles is a wet towel. They way he can't even handle J Jonah Jameson, meanwhile Parker is actively listening to him and finding it hilarious. I feel like Insomniac Miles is just a vehicle for woke stuff, not a real character in himself.

So if this was the plan all along to dump Peter Parker why change his face? I don’t buy “easier face capture”.

Kinda know this will happen, but this time I’ll wait how much they will do dirty to Pete in 3rd game. They should end the trilogy first for Spider-Man then go for Miles.

That's cool. If that's what they want that's fine. I ain't gonna buy it, but I have a feeling it'll still sell a kajillion copies, so it won't matter ultimately.

Love Miles in the films. He is fucking awful in the games. So fucking annoying. Get a new voice actor for him please, or do something to force his balls to drop. Get him on TRT or something for Christ's sake.

If you want different, you won't be getting it from Miles. He's a Peter Parker rehash, and it's always been that way. They only difference and qualifier for his current standing in media is his ethnic makeup, and that's a fact.

I'm sure if the eagle-eyed individual were to have called out Miles' mere inclusion in 2018 as setup for replacing Peter, they would've been called paranoid and racist. Now look.

I was talking to a friend a couple weeks back and I told him that I would bet that at some point Marvel would introduce Miles Morales to the MCU and within a few movies he would become the main Spider-Man. But honestly I never thought they would do it in the games.

Make J. Jonah Jameson Spiderman. Would be an interesting dynamic.

Predictable. Knew it the second Miles showed up in game and on screen. Will this at least mean no fucking MJ as well? That would be nice.

Yep. He has a "struggle", but wins. Peter has multiple struggles and seemingly loses consistently and needs to be saved from the help of his friends.

To put it in as non-spoilery terms as possible.

And I love this Insomiac ideia of mocking and making Peter pathetic because
He lost aunt May in the previous game and now he don't have any relatives alive

But hey, fuck this white guy, right?
