I wish they made a sequel to Ghostbusters The Video Game

I just finished the game and it's really such a cool game. It has the dialogue with humor that you expect, the characters are there and it's all true to the classic movies. The gameplay is very fun and the busting of ghosts really feels satisfying with all the well known equipment.

It plays very well. Especially the remastered version which is 60fps and nice and crisp. They easily could've made a sequel because the game to my knowledge was quite well received. I'd definitely like more games such as these. And while not Ghostbusters, I enjoyed Luigi's Mansion 3 a whole lot as well. I might have to see if I should buy 2. Never played that.

It's a special game. The fact they got the original cast together for it alone is pretty fucking amazing. And Ramis and Aykroyd wrote it.

The Wii version is pretty cool too (though much more cartoony looking)

Yeah that is actually pretty damn sweet. About the cast.

What are you talking about? There is no third movie. What comes next? Are you trying to tell me that Indiana Jones has more than three movies?

Dan Aykroyd was quoted saying the game was "essentially the third movie" when he was interviewed about it during release.

Source from Wikipedia:

[12]"The 'Real' Ghostbusters." Game Informer, 81. Aykroyd:"I've seen work on the video game, I've watched it progress, my rap now to people is 'This is essentially the third movie.'"

If I recall they made this as like the true sequel to the 2nd movie. In other words they gave a shit. Shortly after the studio tried to turn it into a cinematic universe and of course it was a disaster. So I doubt whatever went into this game could be done again.

I've always heard great things about the game, specifically the story and dialog. I bought it on the cheap for the Switch a couple years ago, but still haven't tried it. I'm overdue.

It's a terrific movie to game adaptation, easily top 5 and often overlooked.

I don't know if it's a 'hidden gem' but I don't see it talked about much.

Thing is I'm not sure how good it is without seeing and liking the movies. But if you do it's a treat.

I'm still kicking myself over not giving the original a chance when it got released. I was excited for it, but read some review around the time where the verdict/score was middling and it persuaded me to pass it up.

Would've really liked to have tried the MP when it was still up and running.

Hmm, never thought to even look at it, maybe I had ought to! You guys are selling it pretty well.

I know they made some Ghostbusters VR things, which sounds like a great idea design-wise for so many reasons, but I'd be surprised if they are anything beyond rushed jobs taking advantage of the IP, correct me if I'm wrong. The only other exposure I've had to GB games is the NES one (I'm still sore) and the Sega Genesis (really fun at the time!)

I need to play that again it was shocking how good it was.

Everyone who grew up with GB should give it a shot!

Played the remastered version recently, as it was dirt cheat on the spring Steam sale.
Runs great, 120 fps and looking quite good still.
Very cool game. The humour and atmosphere from the movies is there, and it's cool to walk around and experience the locations from the movies, with lots of small and cool details.
I loved chatting with Vigo in the painting, which they have in their headquarters!

There's no passion in the game industry anymore... well besides passion for money.

Ironically, if you release sick games the money will come.

At the time, a third Ghostbusters movie really seemed grim, and to be honest it never really happened with the original cast. This was the closest that they could get to getting almost all of the original cast back together, sans Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver; whom both apparently regretted not signing up for. I think Sigourney said that she would have joined the cast if someone told her that Bill Murray was doing the game. Bill Murray getting involved was an incredibly huge deal for the time. Given that he was the sole reason why a third movie never got made.

Sigourney Weaver ended up doing Alien Isolation because she missed the boat on Ghostbusters 2009. Alien Isolation was also a great game.

Ghostbusters 2009, while a little clunky around the edges was really the best attempt at a Ghostbusters game at that point in time. The plot was set in 1991 or 1992, a couple years after Ghostbusters II. It was heavily written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The concept of the player being a 'new recruit' to be a guinea pig for all of the newest gadgets was a great idea. The Wii version (which has cartoony graphics had the option to choose between a male or female player).

It was a really fan service game, bringing back many moments from the movies. But did a decent job telling a new story. All four of the main cast members got a lot of dialogue in the game. The game would bounce the player around from being aided by Peter Venkmen, Ray Stanz, Winston Zedmore and Egon Spengler pretty evenly. Sometimes you would be with all four Ghostbusters, sometimes one. Or sometimes two. But it did a good job giving all of the characters equal 'NPC' time. There are some familiar locations like the sledgewick hotel and the library. The firehouse was well done. The wrangle and trap mechanics were decent.

The game did a really good job. In a way it was one of the first to do this... retroactive nostalgia inspired official/ unofficial movie to game sequel concept that has been showing up a bit more frequently over the last decade or so.

Ghostbusters 2009 was a sequel to a 1989 movie, with the original cast returning. Alien Isolation did the same thing by being a official/ un-official in-between sequel to Alien with Sigourney Weaver returning as Ripley. Robocop Rogue City falls into this category by being a sequel to Robocop 2, and brings back Weller. I guess The Warriors from 2005 falls into this concept as it is a un-official game sequel to the movie with the original cast returning to voice their roles. Back to the Future: The Game by Telltale was an unofficial sequel to the third movie, features Christopher Lloyd, Claudia Wells, and even Thomas F. Wilson. Michael J. Fox did not return.

The Wii port is interesting, as it actually does make good use of the Wii remote as a proton pack wand. It does have two player split screen co-op. This version was also ported to the PS2 and PSP. The Wii is the best of the 'cartoon-y' Ghostbusters 2009 versions. I do like that the developers decided to do a cartoonish look that somewhat is reminiscent of the cartoon series. Even though the original 1986 animated series did use character designs that have much more realist proportions. The style works well for the Wii and older gen (from the time) consoles.

The 7th gen console versions are fine too. I still have the original for the PC somewhere. Which was the best way to play that port as it supported higher resolutions and ran at higher framerates. I have never played the remastered port.

As great as this game is though, I ended up using a "exploit" or cheap trick I guess to get past one part. The whole game is super doable when it comes to challenge, I played on experienced but this part had incredibly annoying flying enemies that would kill you with one or two shots and the AI doesn't always respond quickly with reviving, very annoying bit.
