I don't buy the fact that people are upset that Kratos is not being featured in this game because people have long speculated that Atreus would get his own standalone game. If this were an Atreus featured game, then I doubt people would be this upset.
Remember, people were upset Jin was "replaced" with a female lead character?

Because it's barely a game. A game has a lot of moving bits and pieces...and Hellblade 2 is a terrible game for a reason. Why are we even comparing this actual game with that?

What has the games release where she wasn't even in it got to do with when they did her face scans? It makes no damn sense and you know it. It's like saying they should have done a face scan for Andrea Tivadar in Devil may Cry 5 and made her look like a 10 year old because DMC 3 released in 2005. They only did the scans of what she looked like for DMC5 with the age she was (30). The date of the release of a game she wasn't even in makes no damn sense to use.

This should have been a new IP. Could very well end up being a good game but it's not God of War. I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand instead they make stupid comments about not wanting to play as a women. They do it with movies. They will accuse people of not wanting to watch black people because they object to race swapping a beloved character, but that same person will happily watch Black Panther. Its quite normal to become attached to characters. They probably played the originals because they wanted to play as this macho God killer. You can't take that away and expect people to still play it. I have two young children and if their favorite character isn't in something, they don't watch it

To be completely fair, PLENTY on here expressed disgust at the idea of an Atreus game when those rumors went around, and his character is widely mocked as one of the worst elements of Ragnarok.
You have a point with Control, though I doubt people have the same attachment to Jessie after one game compared to Kratos after 5+. Replace Lara Croft or Joanna Dark with a male character, and you'd have a more comparable analog.
Mostly though, I think some are just reacting/overreacting to the context and climate of the last ten years of game announcements and reveals.
I was so sure Ragnarok was gonna GOTY material that year after 2018, I just couldnt believe they fumbled it that hard. Kratos felt alien.

How aging works for Gods/giants? Normally gods remain in their prime (20/30) and they are immortal.

The IP is being stripped of its character and personality. Why should I care about Faye, an insignificant character that was dead? A cube companion? A gay art direction? And where is the mythology?
This isn't targeting the same audience that made this franchise successful.
Your Control comparison doesn't work at all. Control is fundamentally built around its setting, lore, and worldbuilding. The broader mythology of that universe is the main draw. God of War started as a character action game. Emphasis on CHARACTER. The entire franchise was built around Kratos. Take him out of the equation and you're asking fans to care about something completely different to what they originally invested in.

Yeah that was me as well. It was one of my most anticipated games after 2018. But yeah between the character assassination of Kratos (and how soft they made him).. to the poor and uninspired fights (Thor and Odin). It was just underwhelming overall. Not a terrible game by any reach but just kinda meh which is terrible for one of my favourite game franchises.
That game actually made me sour off GoW and now we get this, as mainline (lol).

The Last Jedi moment post modernism nothing burger moment with the mask, the angriboda section that was terrible in the coolest looking area in the game id wanted to play in since 2018, and the unbelievable fact Mjolner was in the game and Kratos didnt get to weild it. No other pantheon realms involved after the incredible tease from 2018, no who blown the horn, the npcs constant puzzle solving, and the disgusting clearly relationship direction between freya and kratos being developed (forgiveness is one thing but falling for the guy that killed your son, you have to be kidding me... sounds like a fucked up romance fanfic).
What a trainwreck.
Only things that were good that were new was Helmdall, Artreus and Signer (I think thats his name) whole relationship, the spear was fun and valhalla was a really fun dlc.

Kratos age was technical limitation most likely, if he is immortal why he aged at all? Games are full of stupid things like that.
With disc drives it was JUST incompetency on display, ok. They didn't prepare by making more disc drives before the release of DIGITAL ONLY console.
And I say positive things about Sony (and MS or Nintendo) when they do some good things (or release good games), I also don't have problem criticizing anyone or anything when they do some dumb things (Valve, CDPR, Nvidia etc.). Meanwhile I always see you defending Sony like they pay you for it.

They have young kratos in Valhalla in the same game as old Kratos in Ragnarok. Rendered with the same engine. There is no technical limitation if you're suggesting that Gow 2 kratos was old but they couldn't draw wrinkles.

God of War lore was always the ancient Greek mythology. Expanding it was always exploring others mythologies like North mythology in Ragnarok. Those mythologies are old, complex and super interesting. And they do interest me.
But here the lore is based on some school level fantasy novel written by Alanah Pierce.
