God of War: Laufey Announced

Okay, but now you're building a hypothetical straw man based on your own preconceptions and biases and then whaling on it for being so irrational and sexist when it probably doesn't actually represent who you're talking to. And just like the folks who see woke agendas even where they aren't, your voice becomes white noise when you assume everything comes down to women-hating.

People were ticked about Jin, but not nearly to this level. Does that not answer your own question about the degree which people are upset? The degree of attachment is a much better explanation for the degree of response than the presence or absence of a penis.

All I'm saying is, why assume the worst intentions and or complete idiocy on the part of all or most who disagree with you? You can try to paint them with a broad sexist or incel brush, but I find it more productive to assume that a few are completely crazy, but most might be mad for other, more legitimate reasons.

Then again, it's just games.

Some people believe there's an agenda behind replacing male characters with female ones in modern games, and that's why they're upset.

This is why it's hard for me to believe people would be upset if a new male protagonist were in a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.

Straw man? No. I'm seeing a pattern.

Go back and look at Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and The Last of Us Part II threads from before 2018. You'll barely find anyone complaining that Chloe "replaced" Drake or that Ellie "replaced" Joel.

Now? They're bringing it up all the time across social media.

People were ticked about Jin, but not nearly to this level. Does that not answer your own question about the degree which people are upset? The degree of attachment is a much better explanation for the degree of response than the presence or absence of a penis.

It doesn't because I'm clearly talking about the level of outrage being displayed when people found out Ghost of Yotei was going to feature a female protagonist. Being replaced by another male protagonist doesn't make people assume there's another agenda behind it, unless they go the route of AC Shadows.

Go look up the game CLUTCH that was announced yesterday. People are calling it "woke" and "DEI." It's easy to see that many people react negatively if they believe there's an agenda behind it. This isn't the case for everyone, but it's clearly an issue for many.

It's just reporting reddit discussions but those are some interesting takes nonetheless.

Yep, and here are answers about norse gods and Faye herself:

But of course this can be treated as fan fiction, SSM can change or retcon whatever they want (like Faye is supposed to be dead).

Well the good thing is. Without Kratos even if the narrative doesn't end up hitting...

It's a game. For normies God of War is basically THE melee action franchise, it can sell just based off that alone.

Genuine question here... Watching the Wolverine and GoW trailers, do people actually enjoy these kinds of games? There's almost no player agency, everything feels like cutscenes and elaborate animations triggered by pressing a single button.
I've been critical of it for 20 years. It's okay in doses but it's not what I play games for.

May well be the case for Wolverine, but this is very "tell me you haven't played God of War without telling me you haven't played God of War". :messenger_beaming: The combat is incredibly deep, even before considering different builds, but there's a lot more to them as well - they're metroidvanias. Tons of exploration, puzzles, treasures.

They are super easy to get into so they sell a lot among people that aren't that much into deeper, more niche, or more "hardcore" games.

The guy was saying he's not feeling parts of the game you think 100% he was afraid of not getting codes? He left because chat turned into a cesspool from both sides discussing dumb shit one of which was an accusation about it being a woman.

Ok? You're just showing he ages though, despite being a god, not sure what you're trying to prove with these strange shots from GoW 3 and not 2. He still looks younger in Gow 3 vs the Norse version of him too where he's developed crows feet. The gods don't "remain in their prime" like you were trying to say.

I am completely speculating but watch it, he doesnt really comment, looks away at his chat to his monitor, reads something and then says "you know what, im gonna jet or whatever"

Looks suspect to buggery.

We have all heard things, if you hang around the industry you hear things and these streamers have decent mods that will assist in helping to secure the bag. i dont know how large of an influencer this specific guy is, I imagine he is big enough to have management of some kind?

Watch it again.

The end of PS4 and the start of PS5 was devastating in this regards.

That's exactly how that comes across to me too.

I really can't think other way around. A company that created Kratos in God of War saying Kratos is the God of War.

Another hypothesis is, pretty much all the devs behind previous Kratos games are not even at Santa Monica anymore. This create the 'Evolve' and 'Back 4 Blood' situation, where they keep spamming the phrase 'from the same creators of Left 4 Dead' and thats it.

It's curious how the discussion of the sex mini-game simply died when they revealed Laufey as the protagonist :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

Is there a lore reason why they hired Greta Thumberg for Faye's role?

They hired the right person. The problem was the animal that modeled her in 3D.

20 year ago yes, nowadays is feels boring as hell

Kind of wish they called this something else and not be so associated with Kratos.
Nah let them sour grapes whine about it. Nobody complained like this for Control Resonant, or Alan Wake 2 despite me trying to point out the double standard.

It's part of the franchise. If they don't want to know what happens in part of the story of the same franchise due to it covering another character in it, that's up to them. For others who don't overreact to small stuff like that it helps them know this is the continuation of the story for that game. I bet we even play parts of the game as kratos anyway knowing SSM.

I played GoW 2018 on PC and it was mostly spamming one button and parry. Was not on GMGOW, but even the normal difficulty should have some challenge.

AW2 had A LOT of criticism for it, basically the most important gameplay parts were being played by Saga.

Its younger generation of brain rot. The kind that grew up with an iPad in their hand before they could even talk.

The problem is - they showed almost none of what makes the other games in the series great in this reveal. The few combat segments that were shown all featured that dumb flying-pirouette-while-holding-a-sword move spammed over and over again without showcasing the build depth that's present in the 2018 game. They showed zero exploration, no puzzles (unless you count "walk over to door and press L2" as a puzzle), no treasure or loot gathering. Everything was linear without any hint of alternative paths. No Breath of the Wild moment like "see that mountain, you can go there". Not even a hint of maybe a treasure box off to the side as a tease. At no point during the 20 minute "gameplay" segment did I feel like if I played this game myself that I would be able to make any choices at all that mattered, even in the slightest.

They chose to feature this first 20 minute segment of the game, instead of creating a sizzle real or an actual trailer that showed off the game's good qualities. Hell, they could have even done both.

I was expecting not to like this but I actually think it looks pretty cool. Mostly the concept seems like a lot of fun -- I was kind of expecting it to be a prequel where she's running around doing things in Viking-land pre-Kratos and look boring, but a super high fantasy afterlife filled with all sort of weird gods and monsters is really interesting.

Kind of wish they called this something else and not be so associated with Kratos.

But like what I've seen of the gameplay, graphics, and the world and environments in these games are usually epic.

Season 7 Reaction GIF by The Office
They had to ride the coat tails of God of War. If it was a standalone, nobody would care about it.

White blood in Chinese version?

They knew this was coming and were ready to preemptively put out the fire.

I dunno. This creative move reminds me of Gears of War. Take an alpha bro type of game and soften it up to the point where it starts losing its appeal. In Gears 5 they shifted their focus to Kate, her Morgan Freeman friend, and her family bullshit while fans collectively shrugged their shoulders. Then Coalition did a 180 and started making a new game focusing on the OG cast. SSM is on a similar path with GoW imo.

That little move made Gears irrelevant for more than a decade.

I've watched it. He is literally saying he felt flat and he's not the mark for these games and he prefers wolverine and pragmata. How can you think it's because he fears upsetting anyone and not getting a code? He might have got some message from a friend or something but he shared his opinion on it well and even said why chat ruins shit but discussing dumb stuff instead. he shared his opinions on the aerial combat and pace. He shared his opinion of the game already if management was afraid of that.

Just thinking… is Kratos considered handsome/beautiful? 🤔

I won't play it for other reasons: those 3rd person run-and-smash games are boring nowadays. It's always the same button smashing.

Gears was woke before it was cool.

I think the damage here is even worse. Kratos and Marcus are equaly the 'man testosterone angry boy club' doing brutal finish moves, but while in Gears 5 they tried to push Kate, they never drop or remove the sense of violence the Gears of Wars always had.

Here is another story. They not only removed Kratos with is by far more popular than Marcus, but they also made a Disney movie game with silly side characters and disney moments. I guess the best example is always be Thor: Love and Thunder.

This will create a really bad precedent for the franchise.

I've been saying this for over a decade and glad people are agreeing now

Ah dude, sorry I didn't explain. Watch it at the end. From the 2h odd mark shared. He speaks to his chat and says you guys ruined it says a bit of basic stuff and then turns and reads something and instantly says I'm going to hop off.

What I am saying is, it's not because of him or anything he has said it's because his chat is being so negative and spamming bollox, it's like a mod is saying just get off and don't engage right now as something that could be shared could happen.

Never mind, maybe I'm not explaining it properly. I'm thinking on a level of someone looking out for their streamer.

You do realize this is literally the beginning of the game, right? And that none of the things you mentioned were in the opening of either of the Norse games either? In 2018 you're gathering a tree and lighting up Faye; in Ragnarok you're on a sled ride and bedding down for the night at home. It wouldn't make any sense to start the game and immediately be wandering around opening treasure chests - you need a couple minutes to establish the story, the place, characters, basic gameplay mechanics, etc.

Being a spinoff with a new character it would be pretty odd to jump into the middle of a later section when you have no idea why Faye even exists anymore or where she is. This makes sense as the segment to introduce people to the new game - all the rest of that can come later.

They just showed the intro to the game, they did exactly the same with 2018. They'll show more gameplay and story trailers at a later date. But by now I would have thought most people know what God of War games play like. Well, kinda, this one is slightly different. Also, it's not open world so it's nothing like Breath of the Wild so, strange comparison
