Pretty sad about Ni No Kuni.

I'm an expert

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
Oh wow, so I guess this is one of the worst selling "big budget" RPGs on the PS3 right? Wonder why it didn't get so high. Bad marketing probably?

I actually see a fair amount of commercials for it and it has the normal cardboard setup at the local stores. Perhaps people who would have bought the game already got it on the DS so why buy it again.

Very sad for Ni no Kuni, but I'll get it once it gets localized and hope the sales are superior than the original's.

Where's the "RPG audience is on the PS3" crowd?

I guess Ni no Kuni bombing is karma for WKC's success.

How does MW3's numbers compare to other CoD releases in Japan?

[PS3] Call of Duty: Black Ops (Subtitled Edition) (Square Enix) - 128.922
[360] Call of Duty: Black Ops (Subtitled Edition) (Square Enix) - 30.279

[PS3] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Square Enix) - 92.743

Don't have first week Media Create numbers for the 360 version of MW2.

10./00. [PS3] Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 <FTG> (Capcom) {2011.11.17} (¥4.990) - 22.436 / NEW
A considerable drop compared to the first-week sales of the vanilla version, but not really surprising when accounting for not only typically lower numbers between upgrades for fighting games, but Japan's overall lack of interest in "Mahvel" compared to the US as well.

02. / 00. [PS3] Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (Capcom) {2011.02.17} - 67.187 / NEW
08. / 00. [360] Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (Capcom) {2011.02.17} - 13.779 / NEW

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Yeah, I think it should do it fairly easily. It's got the xmas boost coming and it'll have the hardware bundle coming soon too.

The real question is how far beyond it'll go. Could it eventually hit 2 million? I think it's within the realm of possibility (at least 1.5 million when all is said and done)

There is no 3D Land bundle planned for Japan.

Ni No Kuni DS left a bad taste in people's mouths? Or WKC?

I think more WKC, since the second one decreased by quite a large amount. Eventually, Ni no Kuni on DS went to sell more than 550k units, and even though not at the full price, people still bought (if people didn't care about it, they simply didn't buy it, instead it had some pretty nice legs).

05./00. [PS3] Saints Row: The Third <ACT> (THQ Japan) {2011.11.17} (¥7.770) - 36.222 / NEW

yay~ anyone know how the localization was handled in this game?

There is no 3D Land bundle planned for Japan.

It'll come as well I'm sure. Highly doubt that they'd release it in every region except Japan...

in fact, I think the SM3DL Bundle is Europe only

For now... (no way will the US be getting a Zelda bundle and no SM3DL one. It'll be announced in the next week or so I'm sure)

Where's the "RPG audience is on the PS3" crowd?

I guess Ni no Kuni bombing is karma for WKC's success.

They're obviously all playing Tales of Xillia and MW3...

I don't understand. People have been saying that NNK is apparently quite lackluster, minus the visuals. As in, downright boring and poor word of mouth on the 3DS title. Why would people buy a boring title?

Am I wrong? Is this game supposed to be actually good?

Thats not how Nintendo of Japan rolls - they also didn't have Mario Kart DS bundled, when US and Europe had them.

The 3DS is already cheap, i dont think there will be bundles for first party software.

The US Mario 3D Land bundle was announced Monday.

There we go! :D Japan will follow soon I'm sure.

Oh really? Didn't they have one for Nintendogs? Or am I just misremembering (a very real possibility in my old age!)

The US Mario 3D Land bundle was announced Monday.

Any pics or flyers or advertising?

My friend will be pretty pissed, he wanted to buy a 3DS just for 3Dland and ended up buying both separately just yesterday :p

EDIT: searched it...it's the red one, not the white one like in Europe.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Zelda might still be ahead by off the charts growth. What were it's numbers when it left?

Regardless, if there's any doubt, next week will do it.

Famitsu data, updated to two weeks ago

[3DS] The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo) - 182.998 / 457.513 / 40,00% 16/06/11

Considering it's impossible Zelda did 33k in these two weeks, Mario is by default the best seller on 3DS right now.

Well I can only give my own opinion, Im thirty hours in and I think its a good game. Its fun and I haven't been bored by it. But it is a game geared to a younger audience so Im sure there are aspects in those regards that might turn off the game for some. Such as its story. Theres also the past games of Level 5 on the PS3 that many have not been happy about as some others have said. Personally I think it just really seems to me that no one seemed to care about the PS3 version here. Maybe after playing the DS game they had their fill of the title. But I think there are other factors involved too.

Another thing

Kirby Wii v.s. Kirby's Epic Yarn after four weeks

08./06. [WII] Kirby's Epic Yarn (Nintendo) - 20.712 / 173.882 (-18%)
13./09. [WII] Kirby's Return to Dream Land <ACT> (Nintendo) {2011.10.27} (¥5.800) - 18.671 / 236.039 (-25%)

As obvious, Kirby Wii is doing much more than Epic Yarn, and during the Holidays it will surely see a big rise

Solid. Kirby should have some killer legs.

Poor Ninokuni, being beaten so badly by Modern Warfare 3 in Japan O_O.
I guess that the series simply isn't appealing to japanese gamers and that after the DS version release the interest/curiosity in it has completely faded away.
Luckily they decided to start western localization before the japanese release :p
As for the the rest good bump in PS3 and PS3 sales, great 3DS sales.
When do sales start to pick up for the holyday season in Japan? Last week of Nov or first week of December? I don't remember.

Man, I can't believe that the Wii is the best-selling console this gen there at just under 12 million.. PS3 at 7 million.. hard to fathom that these numbers are so damn low. The NDS' total sold is nothing short of amazing in comparison to these and the PS2. It has essentially sold as many units as the last two home console cycle leaders combined.

It's unbelievable that Ninokuni did less in its first week than

[360] Blue Dragon (Microsoft Game Studios) - 82.286 / 203.740 / 40,39% 07/12/06
[360] The Last Remnant (Square Enix) - 102.107 / 154.493 / 66,09% 20/11/08
[WII] The Last Story (Nintendo) - 109.704 / 137.964 / 79,52% 27/01/11

Is it really that unbelievable though? Obviously Ghiblis involvement alone wasn't enough to move the masses to buy it (and wasn't most of the ghibli cutscenes in the DS game anyway?) and what else does it have going for it? Is the game actually better than either of those games? Level 5 doesn't really have a great track record for making traditional RPGs (except for when Yuji Horii us in charge). It also did slightly worse than Xenoblade, which I'm sure a lot of people will say is fair.

First Week Sales:

[360/PS3] Modern Warfare 3: 210,839
[360/PS3] Battlefield 3: 151,102
[PS3] Uncharted 3: 124,989
[PS3] Ni no Kuni: 67,032

Clearly Ni no Kuni needs more guns. :p

What on earth could've caused a catastrophic failure like this I wonder? The DS game was received fairly well no? They have the Ghibli name behind it, it's a traditional turn based RPG (too traditional?), the PS3 userbase seems to be pretty active (Xillia did astonishingly well!)

I don't think the Ghibli name means much for the average anime fan that eats up the Tales series. In spite of their mainstream popularity, you wouldn't know Ghibli is succesful if you followed polls from anime magazines.

Their name seems to mean more for mainstream audiences, but those people probably don't own PS3s. Aside from that, the game itself seems to be pretty traditional, so, as a game, it won't reach the same type of audience that Ghibli reaches with their movies.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Other than inefficient marketing not explaining it's a whole different game, my only other guess is that duckroll is vindicated and Japan finally realized the big difference in output quality between homeconsole and portable Level 5. After all whenever you look back at WKC 1+2 sales it's only fair to wonder how in God's name did it manage to sell over 600k copies.
