3DS December Update Thread

Has anybody tried converting any Youtube 3D videos yet? There's a few videos of Mario 64 in S3D on there that I'd love to be able to see on the 3DS!

I think anyone who knows Nintendo's ways should know that this is just too much to ask from them by now. It would be awesome for sure, but I guess you just can't expect some of those things from Nintendo unfortunately. Online play that doesn't break is fine to expect though, and it should be expected from Nintendo. But cross-region party chat? Or even a chat at all for that matter. It's just too much to expect at this point :(

I don't regret buying it yet, I just wish Nintendo would listen! Just...mm... Listen to us :'I

Why can't they give us region free, someone here told me its just a flick of a switch and BAM. Oh well, I just had to vent. I'm seeing people here basking in glory and I am just astounded. I can't even play Mario Kart without a connection error, maybe its my connection though idk about that stuff..

I thought the 3D video recording sucked as it never looked right, then I went into the Settings and manually calibrated the outside cameras. It's actually pretty nice now :D :D

(This explains why that face game always looked weird to me)

The QR code reader is there too (speaking of which, it doesn't recognise game specific QR codes. Just web sites and presumably eShop ones. Pretty stupid, it should prompt you to open up the game that the QR code is specific to)

That's not stupid, it would be impossible for the QR reader to recognise game specific QR codes unless there was some sort of standardised Game ID code embedded into each one. A QR code is nothing more then a collection of squares, they only hold meaning that the scanner gives them. In this case, the scanner converts the code into text to decipher the URL, in games the scanners identification algorithm would be completely different.

The Mii QR code has a Game ID code embedded into it. Why not the other QR codes?

I was really impressed with the update process itself, it's really fast. Not really had a chance to play with the new features yet and I still haven't finished the original Streetpass Quest!

Since I don't really care about Mii Plaza, update didn't really do anything for me.

Bring on more games for eShop.

Took my 3DS with me today and it's the first time ever that I haven't gotten any streetpass hits. Is it possible that 3DS' with old firmware are not compatible with the new update?

- The eShop loads faster.

- You can now add the exact amount you need to buy something. You don't have to add funds to a wallet if you don't want to anymore.

- You can now save your credit card info to your system.

Whoo!

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
The EU title for Rhythm Heaven Fever is Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise, according to the title of the puzzle. At least it's coming out in PAL land.

It's a mandated title. If it was just NoE's choice they wouldn't have bothered as Rhythm Paradise was a huge failure.

Holy shit this is the best part of the update. Now I no longer have to add double the price of a game to my wallet and then have left over money even if I use that money to buy something else.

The Mii QR code has a Game ID code embedded into it. Why not the other QR codes?

I highly doubt that. Chances are Nintendo rigged the scanner to to pick whether the codes a Mii, URL or eShop voucher as part of it's deciphering algorithm. It can do that because those are functions built into the OS and it knows exactly what to look for.

To do the same with software Nintendo would either have to add in additional recognitions through constant firmware updates (which would be a terrible idea and would slow the scanner down considerably after time) or develop some sort of standardised application identification code that all developers would have to adhere too. However even if they did do the latter, that doesn't mean it can be retroactively added to old games as many of them do not have any application ID at all.

For example; there is very obviously no application marker in this.

- You can now save your credit card info to your system.

- You can now queue up to 10 downloads and download them through SpotPass while the system is in sleep mode.

- You can now redeem download codes. The option is under Settings/Other on the eShop.

- Downloadable demos are available now depending on what region your 3DS is from. Japan has demos right now. Maybe the rest of us will get demos on Thursday.

- Developers can now put DLC on the eShop. No DLC that I know of is available yet though.

This is all good. Hopefully if demos are not mandatory (which they should be!), they are at the very least so easy to generate and put on the store that the adoption rate is on par or above Steam or PSN.

Got the DK puzzle, finished all the old ones.

What is a special Mii and how many times do you have to clear streetquest to get all the hats?

Some of the accomplishments are impossible for me :(

Would also like to say fuck you to all 18 people in my plaza, I gave you all fantastic ratings and not one of you could give me one?!

Another this this update did was make re-logging in after the system was in sleep mode much much faster.
Where it use to take like 30 seconds it now takes 4.

I got a Donkey Kong Country Returns Puzzle Piece. I have 27 accomplishments in Mii plaza. Now to collect more Miis before I leave Japan! I now have incentive!

Here's something I'd like to see Nintendo fix in a firmware update (maybe this firmware update does fix that, I haven't checked the eShop this morning and it was down last night).

Boot up your 3DS. Disable Wifi. Launch the eShop. Get an error about Wifi being turned off. Turn Wifi on. Oh, it doesn't automatically kick in? Press home. Launch eShop again. Oh wait, since eShop saved state, you just did nothing. Press home. CLOSE eShop. Launch eShop again. Yay, connected.

Ideally there'd be a system API that notified applications on state changes--card ejects and adds, sd card ejects and adds, wifi state changes--instantly so they could react appropriately. Consider when you're playing a game on a console and you unplug the controller or the battery dies, you get that immediate popup notifying you of the fact. Or if you try to remove a memory stick that has your profile on it on the 360. Or, hell, if you lose internet access / get it back on 360.

Nintendo really needs something that'll make us want to check on our systems frequently.

Some kind of social updates-eshop-news space with a fun interactive design.
(ie own homes, friend's homes. Town. Sounds like animal crossing but yeah)

Stump, that eShop one in particular is just a flaw of the shop imo. On state restore it should just check for a connection again and if it finds one, reset the software to start the login process... we shouldn't have to do it ourselves. I agree more 'event' based triggers would be a good thing.

I'm pretty happy with the update overall, particularly the video recording and streetpass updates, but also the minor but important improvments to the shop (pay in exact change, spotpass/background queue downloading, demos)... hopefully the Thursday shop update brings some cool stuff!

Regarding the 3DS transfer tool does it transfer your prime Mii / identity / friend code or do you lose that?

Just tried it. Doesn't work, so it sadly hasn't been fixed.

There are APIs for certain state changes like 3DS card and SD Card ejects (games/apps like 3DS Camera act as you would expect) so it is probably just a flaw of the eShop's design.

Just updated my European system. The eshop is MUCH faster! Seems as if entering/exiting programs in general is faster too.

Anyone know a way to register for Club Nintendo if you're Scandinavian? I just want to link an account to my eshop.

So they did all this and still no way to properly browse the eShop? How about social media stuff? A way to share videos for example. This was a waste of time for me, I couldn't care less about Find Mii and the Puzzles
