Guess Atlus USA's next game reveal

If people want Persona 5 they should be checking Famitsu threads, not Atlus USA localization announcements. :p

In all seriousness, it's definitely Gungnir. I just want Persona 5 so badly. Or Digital Devil Saga 3, even though I don't know why they'd do one. The ending was perfect. Bu--but... Seraph :'(

I'd rather have Growlanser.

I'd take Gungnir with an open mind because I actually liked Riviera: The Promised Land PSP remake.

Both would be really awesome but I am not expecting that.

Yeah, as much as I liked KitN, I'd love for it to be Growlanser. No reason why it can't be both, though. More games = great, but might be wishful thinking on my part.

Wonder what the GAF clue is supposed to be.

I'd imagine being a US Growlanser fan basically means to get used to that.

Anyway, I'd be happy with either, though anything short of a double reveal will probably be met with some angry pitchforks and bitter tears. So basically like any other reveal.

Im not familiar with Growlanser, but what console would Atlus US be bringing the game to? PSP?

PSP. 1 and 4 are on PSP. If it is Growlanser, it'll be one of those and it'll probably be 4, since it was released in Japan just a few months ago.

And is it a SRPG? I like SRPG's. :)
Going but II and what I played of III it's... a bit like an SRPG. II goes closer to full blown SRPG, but that's because of what it cuts out (and I think has a higher party member count in battles). I believe 1 and 4, like 3, let you travel and overworld and explore towns/dungeons like a normal RPG. The battle system itself is kind of like an RTS.

2 and 3 were released by Working Designs and Atlus released an updated version of 5.

I must find these games! I've always wanted to play them but I thought all of 'em were exclusive to Japan. This is great news. Are the stories connected? Can I play without having played the first or fourth respectively.

Growlanser II and III thanks to Vic and Growlanser V by Atlus USA.

EDIT : Beaten faster than GAF drops its support for the GOTY it elected.

lol

Are the stories connected?

I believe that the first three all take place in the same world. I think 4 has some connections to the first three, but it's nothing major. Pretty sure 5 and 6 are in their own worlds and are self contained.

Close, as I recall you're right up until 5, in which case 5 and 6 are in fact interconnected. Makes it somewhat of a shame we missed 6, but it sounds like that was just a bit better than 5 so the bigger shame is that they weren't great to begin with.

Growlanser I, II, and III are all connected in some form. I and II are directly connected while III is a bit more loose. IV is a totally separate world and is self-contained. V and VI are in the same world and connected like I and II are but even more closely. V and VI are more like one half of a story each and combine into one overall plot.

This is torture.

It's tough being a US Growlanser fan, so I'm really hoping for some good news. Gungnir is probably a great game, but to have all this hope for a new Growlanser game in English and then not have it happen would be crushing.

Or maybe we should all just jump on the duckroll train and go forth knowing we get both.

Or maybe... duckroll is the clue!

Well, according to Growlanser IV Return
it seems that GLIV is connected to GL 1, 2, and 3 ;D

god, I love gaf. You guys are the best, thanks. I'm going to hunt down some fan translations. lol

You can find text files but you will not find patches AFAIK. Growlanser I script is entirely translated and available on Gamefaqs and you can find the translated script for VI online too.

EDIT : Pretty sure they will simply post the clue's pic in the thread tomorrow...

All the series I love are either dead or barely ever localized. I should be used to it by now but I'm not. :(

It's not really. Mild spoiler, nothing big coming
IV Returns is used to explain the disappearance of the hero in the original IV for a certain period of time in the ending. While this ending likely exists in Over Reloaded, the new ending basically kinda nulls it.

The Clue Movie, which was awesome btw, had a gratuitous sexy maid. Which is an obvious Urashihara reference, so it's Growlanser. :)

I was tempted to tie it in with the dicks comic too

edit: okay, so since Gungnir is a reference to a legendary spear, the phallic symbolism should be obvious. It's both.

Dick -> Richard! Growlanser confirmed lulz

*looks at the clue again*

That's an interesting way to word the hint. I wonder if anything can be taken away from that, or am I just reaching?
On the other hand, Dept Heaven games tend to be very different. Gungnir sounds like it's the straightest in the series, but I imagine there'd be some interesting wrinkles in the gameplay if I looked into it more.

Yeah, I did a little reading and based on that
it doesn't seem like [3,4] are directly connected in the way that [1,2,3] and [5,6] are connected. 4 still seems like it can be standalone, especially if OR's new ending nullifies it.
