Seriously, Microsoft needs to pick up Vigil and Relic. Those are two fantastic fucking devs right there.

As a huge Relic fan, why would that be good for me? I see them turning Relic into an Xbox exclusive Warhammer 40k third-person shooter factory.

Yeah, fuck that idea.

Volition is also awesome as hell. Sadly this means that Del Toro project will never get done, damn that burns my ass. I even enjoyed last years Red Faction, it wasn't as good as the open world one but it was a fun game and best of all the PC version was rock solid.

Microsoft shut down FASA and Ensemble.

I'm not sure they're a great choice for this unless you wanted Relic to lose half its staff, get spun off, and work on f2p MMOs.

EA is a good choice. They have a pedigree for focusing on PC only RTSes, and Generals 2 is looking pretty good.

What exactly about generals is looking pretty good? They've only shown like 15 seconds of what they claim is in-game footage...and that's it.

Fuck that. They'd force GFW into every PC release (if it ever even hits PC), and Relic JUST shed that shit.

EA, and Activision, one of those should pick up Relic.

Relic, Sony/MS won't want anything to do with each other.

I won't tell names but there are some folks in the industry who told me a few months ago that THQ was a bad, dumb publisher bogged down by internal politics but it had a good distribution network. So their value is in their distribution channel. The company who buys them will have to "clean Augean stables". I think we'll see majority of their IPs sold or cancelled.

Company of Heroes: Kinect
- Wave to the soldiers during the WWII Victory Parade
- Watch WWII Battlefield dioramas
- Go inside a virtual Tiger Tank, sing the US anthem and many more exciting experiences!

Coming soon for Kinect for Xbox 360 and PC.

As if EA buying them wouldn't make them Origin only. Both EA or Microsoft might shut them down or having them spinning sequels on end, I said MS cuse let's face it, they need more solid first party devs.

I'm going to be seriously sad if this ends up hurting Darksiders 2. :( Nintendo should publish it, the development of Dark Zelda 2 NEED to continue as planned.

Nintendo buys Vigil.

That's all I want. Either merge them with Retro or let them do more of their stuff. But another western dev for Nintendo wouldn't hurt.

WB sounds like a good fit for Vigil and Darksiders.

Also if that happens, War or Death as a guest character in the next Mortal Kombat.

I love Nintendo and I love Vigil, but they are a terrible fit for each other.

The days of rich backers, with tons of investor money, taking a chance and buying up pubs whole are over for now.
They'll let THQ die, and fight over any valuable scraps and talent.

Depressing.

No one will buy THQ, but they'll definitely pick up some of their IP's and devs. Saints Row and Volition should be pretty easy to sell off.

They're also interested in MMOs given that they bought Turbine, so they could make use of both of their projects.

Yeah, fuck that idea.

I don't really want Microsoft to acquire Relic or believe it will happen, but it would be nice to see Relic's take on a Halo strategy game (Halo Wars 2).

As a fan of Company of Heroes, the Dawn of War Warhammer games and being a PC gamer, how does this benefit me?

Did Space Marine make you come up with this post?

I believe this...

True story last month- THQ offered my friend a great job - he accepted - gave his current company 3 weeks notice and would take a 1 week vacation before starting - left the company was about to join THQ in 2 days - THQ calls and tells him his job is cancelled due to funding.

This guy has a family and basically is screwed and already set up a successor at his last company. So yah - screw THQ.
That's got to be one of the suckiest situations ever. :(

Seriously....I'd rather they become a PC DD independent developer and just focus on making RTS..

God, I hope not. Nintendo would likely go for some sort of exclusivity then.

By the way, games like Metro Last light, Darksiders 2 etc are probably ok. It's more likely the next game in those series that would be in trouble.

Whoever runs Vigil has to convince Nintendo's top brass in Japan that it won't become the next Silicon Knights, Factor 5 or whatever and is a sound investment to make in the long term at a time when Nintendo itself is already losing money and constructing a new R&D facility in Japan to expand their teams and house a lot more workers. The group they'll converse with likely hasn't heard of Vigil in the first place and only made deals with THQ as a publisher. Nintendo didn't pick up a ton of 'up for grabs' Japanese devs that they actually worked with that went under instead they just hired 'some' of the staff. They also didn't acquire Next Level Games or Monster Games.

As for the other assets, the guys in Montreal can probably walk next door to get a new job so I'm not sure if they'll stay on. The value of the company will diminish if talent leaves the company and the smart money says they should. This was also the problem with Free Radical Design and Bizarre Creations. If the workers at THQ don't feel confident that they'll be picked up they'll start to leave and there's actually plenty of devs expanding right now.

I still wonder how THQ managed to secure so much talent in recent years. Patrice left one of the top publishers in the world to go to THQ, and now he'll probably never release a game with them.

Creative freedom.

Tell creative people you will fund the game they've always wanted to make and they will come.

I don't really need a tag, but I figured I'd get one to make people jealous. Is it working?
I can't wait for the next hardware generation of consoles to fix all this.

I said before that Relic would be a god fit for WB. They are the only big western publisher with no real foothold in the RTS genre.

my guess is that they give (gave ?) much more freedom in comparison to the competition .

I'm sure that they'll get out Darksiders and Metro this year, but I'm seriously worried about their 2013 lineup.

Their policy was that if you were a developer with a proven track record, you could make any game you wanted as long as you gave THQ the IP, and then they would try and figure out how to market it.

Unsurprisingly this strategy failed.

Someone pick up Volition! That's all I truly, truly care about. Darksiders dev should get picked up too.

Edit: And Volition needs to end up with that Saints Row IP.
