If Ovi gets suspended, it will be the first time since 10/29/2005 that neither Ovi or Backstrom is in the #Caps lineup.

:(

At least Backstrom skated briefly today for the first time since January 6th.
Thats good to hear, but wow at that stat.

Does anyone think the flyers make a move? Either for a d-man (i dont think it's needed) or for a top 6 fwd?

between JVR and Briere out with concussions and jagr straining his groin every other game, I think we should. But also, I don't wanna move any of our young guys either :/

The Flyers WILL get a Dman. The question is if it will be a blockbuster type deal that will send away some of our young forwards or a depth guy like Gleason from Carolina for midlevel picks.

I'd rather that. Bourdon and Gus are playing well out there for now. 6 goals is inexcusable for both the D and the goalie, and I guess there's the forwards to blame too.. it's a team effort when the other team scores 6, or lack of.

I hope Eakins gets the coaching job once Burke realizes Wilson is a hack.

This is the smart idea. Burke usually goes for the smart idea...as long as it doesn't clash with his own set of rules. This shouldn't be a problem.

How long can Eakins really stay in the AHL while he's been getting some attention at the NHL level.

I have to say I was quite shocked on Saturday watching the Marlies game where it was the third period we were up 4-1 and Hamilton scored. I then expected as per the course that we start to scramble give up another goal and boom we got a hockey game but nope they shrugged it off put on the pressure and won 7-2.

These are things you don't see with the Leafs.

I was a bit iffy on him when I didn't know much about Dallas Eakins but I see now he could do well in Toronto.

I think they will go after a dman. I also think they do try and grab a big name guy.

So Zaraki,

Are you willing to admit being wrong about Jagr not being an injury liability now that he sits every other game? The guy is 39. How could anyone not expect him to be out a significant number of games?

Tim Thomas blows off Obama?

Related tweets are pretty funny:

Tim Thomas: “I’m tired of foreigners coming to America and trying to take our jobs!” Tuukka Rask: “Dude, I’m standing right here.”

Everyone's talking about Tim Thomas, but I'm just glad the President escaped injury after an afternoon with the Bruins

With Roberto Luongo's style, he can make stops at the White House that Tim Thomas can't.

President Obama hosted the Boston Bruins at the White House today. Video of the event is being reviewed by Brendan Shanahan.

Also, Stars extended Goligoski. 4 years, $18.4M.

I just realized that the Canucks have never played a single game without at least either Daniel or Henrik playing, since their first NHL game in 2000. Irontwins.

easy to do that when the most contact you've ever experienced in the nhl is having a half naked ryan kesler bump into you in the locker room while trying to ruin an interview

it had to be done

Thomas refused to meet Obama because of his political beliefs.

And apparently he's a big fan of Glenn Beck and would love to have dinner with him.

Holy Christ.

Pretty sure if a President I didn't like invited me to the White House I'd go because it's the White House and the President.
Exactly.

You have respect for the Office of the President of the United States, even if you don't personally respect the man himself. This was a celebration of his team and their championship together, and he decided to make a non-political event into a political statement.

Not only that, but it's something special for the team and I'm sure they wanted him to be there. He wasn't being a team guy.

Yeah he totally put himself above the team to make some insane point. I have no doubt that a lot of the people who visit the White House each year dont like the current president. Going there to be with your teammates and celebrate a win isnt going to help Obama get re-elected.

Tamplaer, tomorrow.

It's nice and all that the Canucks are finally getting all this time off, but it's happening right before the All-Star game so they won't have their own opportunity to played rested against tired teams. Too bad.

Wow. Yet another reason to hate the man.
Besides the fact that he hunts bears in Canada (fuck him), I hadn't seen any legit reason to dislike him.

Why is this a problem in Canada?

The man makes $5 million a year, has won pretty much every accolade for his sport, the president wants to congratulate him and his team for their accomplishments and he comes around and essentially says "Fuck you and your political beliefs, I'm out"?

Well fuck that guy.

What a drama queen.

It was a celebration of the city of Boston, the Bruins Organization, his teammates and their accomplishment, and with that one gesture, he's made every headline in sports news talk about Tim Thomas and how he hates Obama.

Way to take the limelight away from everyone but himself.

I'm scared of the Penguins' incredible play. They've woken up after that awful six-game losing streak. I'm going to the Pens game next Wednesday and I bought that ticket because I thought "Heh, Pens, they suck. I'm gonna witness a win live!" =/ That was short-sighted.

He's a Glenn Beck fan, so he probably thinks Obama is actually a Nazi intent on destroying America. If I was that deluded, I wouldn't want to see Obama either.

Yeah, like this was some grand, historic, meaningful event. Obama likely just found out who the Bruins were and that had won "a cup" hours before the photo-op. Overall, perhaps, it would have been better for Timmy to just go to avoid this manufactured controversy, but personally, I don't really care either way.

I can't agree more, no matter what you think about it, Obama is still representing the USA and it's people. You don't have to agree with what he thinks.

Pia Sundhage(coach of the US womens soccer team) did the same thing after they won the Olympics but I have more sympathy with her since it wasn't really her president.
