Custom Cover Art - Minimalist, clean, or alternative box arts for your favorite games

Not sure if it's been brought up yet, but I was wondering what font is being used for the features area of the top bar on the back of the PS3 template?

I'm referring to the part that says "Trophies - Add-on Content - Multiplayer".

I used normal Arial, but I had to play around with the font's width or height percentages (or both, forgot).

See, now looking through this thread makes me wonder...... removing the fact that there's no blurbs on the backs of these games, why is it that these box arts look SO much better than what we get at retail?

Let's take the Skies of Arcadia box art I saw on the previous page as an example... the console branding is still there, but isn't an ugly fucking banner cutting into the artwork, and the logo for the game is placed so that it's still fully legible without being obnoxiously large for no reason. Not to mention that the choice of artwork is 100x better than the marketing clowns at Sega used (although the GCN artwork was also much better than the Dreamcast artwork... blargh)

Seriously... why are people being PAID to do such a subpar job on something that some of us can whip up in a day or two (with official art assets, no less!) and STILL do a better job?

Hey publishers, wanna know where your money sinkhole is? It's your marketing teams. Kill some of those jobs before you axe a development team to cut costs.

Having recently bought a pile of games from gog, I was wondering if anyone had made some top-notch covers for some of the old PC classics? Like Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 etc?

I'm looking a for Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare Cover with the PS3 SLIM branding on it and I'm having a real hard time finding a downloadable version of it. Does anyone know where I can find something like this?

Decided to motivate myself to replace my damaged Drakengard cover.

Came out alright, still wish I could have found higher res assets for the logos. Still can't compare to the amazing covers you guys have put out!

Seeing as I had some time to kill I figured I might as well do a Drakengard 2 cover to go along with the first game.

Despite having to go with a black Playstation 2 logo I think I turned out pretty well, especially in contrast to Drakengard's mostly black cover.

Some really great looking stuff here - awesome thread and great work to all contributors.

I took Enzo's Halo Reach cover (thanks!), but would love if someone found the time to do a 360 Metro 2033 one.

I need a favor, from any kind boxart-crafter willing to help me out.

In interest of helping our fan translation of the PC version along, I bought the PS2 version of Castle Shikigami Mobile Light Force 2.

Obviously I'd rather have this cover:

How would I go about getting this as a printable alt?

Any advice?

I'd like to request one for the Saint's Row Double Pack for 360. The default cover for it is one of the worse I've ever seen, and I can't find any good quality pictures to do it myself :(

I may do one for FFXIII-2. I'm getting the CE which doesn't come with a normal case and I'll be wanting to sit XIII and XIII-2 side by side.

Everyone here did so wonderful covers that I just wanted to try and contribute! It's my first work like this and I think it came out alright. Please let me know what you think as I might do more of these, especially for RPGs but it depends on the art I find.

i've seen a few, one guy did some badass metroid prime ones. i think they're encouraged!

That's wonderful if that's the case! I have a few requests but I'll put them up later.
If I go to a Kinko's/Office Max/etc, I just have to provide the art, dimensions, and paper quality right?

This is pretty dang outstanding.

I would love an Orange Box PS3 box art that doesn't suck.

I'd love the PC cover to be on the front and back, but be adjusted to look like a PS3 game, and it to have a spine similar to Portal 2.
But instead of it having a blue guy exiting the portal, have an orange guy entering the Portal.

Anyone up to the task?

fuck, im too lazy to check the OP but i wanna say ive read here that Office Max is better, possibly gives you less shit over copywritten art and the like? i'll be honest, ive printed a few from here and the cover project, fortunately the ones i chose were at good dimensions and just needed cutting. quality's good from a glance at the bookshelf! but YMMV.

*i wish that master system take on the Yakuza 3 one was full sized, and more people did sega games in that style, such a sucker for it.

I've made two Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness covers.

The other one is just a remade version of the PS2 cover, which I really like.

A simple first try. Once I get the hang of this I'll update with a better submission instead.
Any tips or suggestions?
How do I make the front and back cover different?

I tried to make something similar to it and this is my result. Theres a small difference in the front picture, couldn't align it as the one you've linked.

The Dark Souls cover I made (but didn't post because you guys don't like the XBL logo) has the same front but a different art on the back.

hey, so - i bought Ghost Trick used @ gamestop, box has no cover and The Cover Project (where i usually print these things from) doesn't have it...anyone know where i can get a proper DS case cover to print for this one?

I'd like some more FFXIII, FFXIII-2 covers as well. I hate that most FF games have the traditional logos on the spines, but both XIII games are just some plain font. However I'm glad that they're at least uniform.
