Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

Actually, NeoGAF I can understand, but fairly certain it was some of the bigger sites as well.

I believe even BombCast mentioned that the games looked worse or on par with current gen. And maybe G4 right after the conference aired.

This was even funnier in retrospect, when the multiplatform games shown were revealed to be ps3/360 versions.

Launch 360 games looked like late PS2 games if memory serves. So, Bombcast essentially said the E3 reel was PS2 quality. That's pretty spectacular perceptual distortion.

And believe when came out that iwas 360/PS3 games.. didn't correct themselves...

Said something about the games no one wants to play on Nintendo consoles or something.

I like GiantBomb's content, but can't listen to their podcast.

I might buy that the big game media sites were confused about the Wii U being just a controller if they hadn't been reporting for months beforehand about rumors that the new "Project Cafe" system would have a controller that had a big screen on it.

Which is to say, either they have dreadfully short attention spans and dodgy memories or they "forgot" on purpose.

When they showed the third party reel, I just thought:

"Well, Darksiders 2 looks like the 360/PS3 version, that's nice."

But when Metro: Last Light came one, I never saw it before that so my reaction was: "Hell, that looks pretty fucking good."

Same for Colonial Marines.

I think most people are going to be a little disappointed when they see the final WiiU specs from what I am hearing. I know I was.

I think the 3DS is VERY telling on what the Wii U will be like. I mean that as in if the you were to consider the 360/PS3 = PSP the Wii U will = 3DS and the Xbox3/ps4 = Vita

Wait, didn't the third party reel come from gameplay footage of the 360/PS3 versions?

Entertain us with what you've been hearing.

Yes. He was just saying what he first thought.

So the Wii U will get games as good looking as the best looking portable game I have ever seen(not counting Vita, haven't played the system)????

Relative to your comparison???

Works for me.

The Wii U will be very powerful, it's just come to the silliness(to me) of looking amazing versus looking amazinger.

Despite the art(some is great, some isn't) of the 360/PS3, even the Wii U being slightly or twice as powerful as those systems will provide awesome looking games.

Someone mentioned earlier here skylanders Pokemon with the "NFC". That I have no interest in, but damn I would love Pokemon Snap 2 which is tailor made for that controller and the 'panaromic' concept we have seen.

Everyone has biases. A lot of people here have the console warrior mentality.

I personally have biases. I like Nintendo, I liked Sega, I dislike MS as a company, and I dislike Sony as a company and doubly so as a gaming company.

The point is that everyone has them.

Those that call themselves journalists should be able to put theirs aside and look at things objectively, but it's a rare thing to see.

This is why gaming journalism is such a joke.

And that's my problem.. your average GAFfer or person on n4g or Twitter, that's okay. I mean we're humans.

But when you are supposed to be a professional, I feel like should be able to separate your personal bias from your coverage, but alas.

I think a lot of the confusion at the E3 conference was born, subconsciously or otherwise, of bias and agendas.

You don't really need to look further than "Looks worse than PS360 footage" for that.
With the search functions back up we can check the history of the people who first started claiming/questioning that it was only a new accessory. It pretty much confirms their biases. The first guy's very next post was about how he was 'enjoying' the meltdowns. The second guy was in full FUD mode and went on confirming that it was just a controller 2 more times in the same thread. The third guy may have actually been confused, but he also has very few gaming-forum posts, and one other guy later on that seemed genuinely confused . The rest of the people in those first few pages were, for the most part, already trolling the conference and would continue to do so... (one guy complained about the controllers design and switched over to calling it a Wii accessory the very next minute, meaning the only thing slowing down his trolling was the forum's time limit and another of these first responders was also mentioned ElTopo's shame list above)... But then contrast many of these guys' posts to what they wrote in the Sony or MS conference threads is just hilarious.

Much of that is to be expected. What still get's me are the gaming outlets that perpetuated the misinformation. Some of these places had hands-on play time with the system the day before. Even if you allow for a person spreading the FUD wasn't a part of the hands-on demo group, these organizations really should have had their 'stuff' together better.

He's buried under cherry blossoms.
Damn it, bgassassin.

3ds has games that look a bit better than the best psp games, which launched like 8 years ago right? Hardly a bar, check out the vita and uncharted which is a launch game for an example of what he meant.

Of course, I love my 3ds and don't care for power on a portable so much, but still.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
But can it run Crysis?

This seems believable.

So I'm heading to law school this fall. Got some important questions about whether or not to buy the Wii U.

First off, can someone who's been to law school tell me whether I'll have any time at all to play video games? I was hoping for at least a couple hours on the weekends, but things I've heard have been discouraging in that regard.

Secondly, I'm a Smash Bros. guy. I remember when Brawl came out, people were saying there was no way to have a lag-less fighter game. But then SF4 and others came out with online play, but I haven't had a chance to play those. Can someone who's played those attest to their lag-less states? Or is there just a more acceptable amount of lag than in Brawl?

And lastly, my wife loves watching Netflix on the TV, but I don't like having to pay for both Xbox Live and Netflix, with just the occasional game of Reach thrown in. My question is, do you think Nintendo Network will be free, or will it be fleshed out to the point where Nintendo will feel they can charge for it?

I can't imagine Nintendo trying to charge a subscription fee for access to network services. They're fighting an uphill battle on this front and can't afford to turn away anyone who might defect from Live for this reason.

Even Sony realized there was an audience to offer PSN+ in addition
to their free service. If Nintendo decides to charge for a premium
online service comparable to Live, I'm game. I'm sure they'd
still offer a basic free online service as well.

That's why I qualified my statement. PSN+ isn't paying for 'access to network services' in this sense.

As far as online goes I would be shocked if Nintendo charged like Xbox Live, it seems to me all signs point to it being free like PSN.

Yeah... We all know those xbox3/ps4 specs are just crazily unbelievable.

Oh that's right, no one knows exactly what they are.

Funny how you heard so differently from everyone else.
I'd LOVE to hear more

No, 3DS has games that look a bit worse than average XBox 360/PS3 games. Games like Resident Evil, DOA, Street Fighter IV show this.

First slide
"Four original Wii remotes can be connected to new controller" <- What?

Second Slide
Under WiiU Controller section:
"IR, HDMI and Wii Remote access port, 3.5mm audio jack, volume sliders" <-What?

These are errors right?
(or maybe I have to increase my daily WiiUNews dosage)

Console will support 1-2 upads + 4 wii remotes. I think those are errors on the second slide, i see no reason for hdmi output on upad itself

Oh, mystic stranger, please share your secret knowledge of the final WiiU specs.

As far as I can see, you are the first one to have claimed to hear them, so please share

Yes they're errors

The first could kinda make sense i guess, if the WiiMotes connected/synced "though" the U pad.
(U pad acting as a sort of a hub for peripherals)

But I don't see any advantage of doing that, since the console has to be ON at all times anyways.
(why not connect to that)

Both source Nintendo and "news reports" so even if it may make sense, which it doesn't because the console is the hub for peripherals (that's what makes it the console after all), it's clear it is a mistake.

Not necessarily all that different. It's all about expectations. Many people, some developers included, expected next gen systems to be ten to twenty times as powerful as PS360. With expectations like that, the leaked Wii U specs are certainly disappointing.
