I recently got into hummus.

And I love it.

Srsly.

Right now I'm at your basic store brand seen here:

But I want to go deeper.

Are there any other readily-available brands I should be made aware of? Or homemade hummus recipes?

Any hummus tips are greatly appreciated.

i get my hummus at this lebanese place down the street.. i think they use yogurt or something with it because it's so smooth. i'm not helping am i

Sabra is pretty good. I have some lebanese relatives, the stuff they make is inferior to a bunch of Sabra's I've tried.

If you really want to get into, make your own. It is not rocket science. Cumin is an important ingredient for me.

But the regular Trader Joe's is pretty good.

Next step is making your own. Buy yourself a couple cans of garbanzo beans, olive oil, and garlic. Apply food processor. Enjoy.

From their you can add yogurt, olives, peppers, nuts, etc...

Well, do you have a recipe ma' boy?

I started making hummus recently. Here's a good base recipe I used the first time I tried making it, though I didn't completely follow it the first time either:

I add one Tbsp of extra virgin olive oil per 15 oz. can of beans that I use as well (that recipe does not call for it, but you should add it). Make it once, after that you can just do whatever. It's a really easy medium to work with. Try a number of combinations. All the basic additions are good: citrus zests, toasted garlic and/or sesame, sundried tomatoes, and of course roasted sweet red peppers and other peppers. Toasted nuts as well. There are a number of different hummus recipes and some blogs out there if you just search for them as well.

Hummus is the easiest/tastiest snack to make if you have a food processor or blender. You'll need tahini, but that can be found at most natural grocers or any place that sells niche products like that.

Are garbanzo beans the same as chick peas?

yes

Just get a can of chickpeas, a few teaspoons of peanut butter or tahini and some chopped up garlic, and place it into a blender or food processor for starters. While blending, add in olive oil to create your desired consistency.

Taste and add your own spices/herbs. I like to add lime, cilantro and habaneros in mine, but you can add whatever you want. Part of the fun of making hummus is experimenting with different ingredients and trying new flavors. Or you can be boring and follow a recipe. ;p

More Sabra, roasted red pepper love here. Best you're gonna get. That shit with flatbread, so good.

This is why I decided to make hummus. Always loved Sabra, but it's expensive. On a whim a month ago, I decided to say screw it and make my own. Best decision ever. So easy and it tastes even better.

Make your own:

Garbonzo beans, Tahini Paste, Garlic, Lemon Juice, (Olive oil if you want, I don't). Mix in food processor until creamy.

Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with paprika on serving dish.

DO NOT PUT CUMIN IN IT EVER FOR ANY REASON!

Try to get Ful+Hummus next time when you're at your middle-eastern place. Mmmmmm. Ful is basically cooked Fava beans with spices.

Easy healthy dish packed with tons of protein. Basically just grab some chickpeas and throw whatever spices/herbs you have on hand.

My wife recently got me into hummus. I have no idea why I hated it before. Shit is so damned good. I will eat a whole container if I don't watch myself. That shit is DANGEROUS SON!

Hummus is actually a pretty big staple in my diet. i eat it daily. It makes a great spread for sandwiches (a healthier alternative to mayonnaise) and is great just for dipping all kinds of veggies in.
