Playstation Vita ads are up

could they have picked uglier game footage for the US commercial? Terrible, just terrible. And what the hell is up with the font choice? It looks so cheap.

So happy SCEE has maintained the more artistic Playstation brand marketing. SONY always tried to position Playstation as the grown-up, more (artistically) authentic approach to gaming. Occassionally it could come off as ill-advised art wank, but overall it left a very good impression.

Really liked that ad.

The less said about the US one, the better.

Bad choice in the US one (and I'm actually interested in seeing how that game turns out), too abstract/no games in the EU one.

US ad @ 00:18 reminded meof this

the US version is SOOOOOOO bad.

just do a voice over of the EU one so everyone sounds american. Bam US commercial

Misleading much!? WTF was that US ad about? Because it seems as if they're implying that you can play multiplayer online over 3G.

Also, they must have a lot of faith in Unit 13 to make it the focus of their first ad. Or they know that dudebros need their shooter fix......

US ad is not bad.
My main concern is that it barely talks about the actual product and barely shows it; anyone casually flipping channels could think is just a PSP. And nothing says that is "something new".

Plus 3G gaming? :p

Then again, they said that the $50 million campaign was targeted to technically the people that already know of it.

Yeah., EU is way better. Though barely shows it, but still nice.

Euro ad is the better ad.

But they both fail to conjure up a must-get attitude. I guess the euro one is good on a 'hey there's a new playstation handheld out!' kind of way. But neither of them show anything that is worthwhile about the console itself. The euro ad didn't even show any footage. But I guess they are banking on just getting the people who will buy it on name alone.

After the euro ad I was just like gaming = awesome. Had nothing to do with vita.

As I mentioned in the other thread – tell me that they didn't look back on their history of ads, decided that Double Life was one of the best, and decided to update that. It's so clearly in the same spirit and style, but with a bigger budget.

edit - beaten senseless

The European one is splendid. The US one... not so much.
So, it isn't only Nintendo affected by this ( remember Zelda OoT 3D? ). Europeans better in making advertises confirmed? XD

That's just one of the ads for US. They showed another one with MLB 12 on the livechat yesterday but yeah it was similar.

EU>US

I like that the US ad actually shows the product. It drives me crazy how many consumer electronic products don't just show the damn thing in action, something that Apple manages to do flawlessly in their ads. But overall, didn't convey it as anything special. Looks like a 3G PSP or something.

Euro one seems typical for Euro. Those style ads bore me to tears. You have a general idea what the product is, but instead of show it they spin some boring narrative for 45 seconds I don't care about.

SONY's EU approach has always been brand > product when it comes to marketing. You make the company aspirational, the products fall in line with that. A few mis-steps aside, it has usually served them well.

Goddamn so spectacular. Being alive during the PS1 era was fantastic. I didn't even get one until towards the end (I went for the Saturn, no regrets) but I was in constant awe of the Playstation brand.
