Dustforce soundtrack is super amazing. Probably my favorite part of the game (which is also amazing, but some parts are difficult to the point I know I'll never 100% it).

Example (with awesome intro video) here:

Music is consistently good and relaxing; the soundtrack has been a staple for me for the last month or so and hasn't gotten at all old.

The soundtrack to Conker Live & Reloaded is undoubtedly the best video game score I've heard. Robin Beanland did an incredible job at using picking the correct instruments for the themed music. Everything has that amazing cartoony-cliche, yet remains catchy and unique.

It's a shame the released OST didn't even include half of the music.

Shadow Gate, from the NES and the Game Boy

One of the best 8-bit soundtracks I've heard, but rarely gets any mention that I've seen.

Neverhood (although regarded as one of the best soundtracks, very few people have heard it)

Anything by Nifflas (free games that are solid with some of the best made-from-scratch soundtracks)

Saga Frontier Series (but I don't suggest playing them)

The guy that made Chrono Trigger's soundtrack made a game that only came out in Japan that is actually his best work, but I can't recall the name.

Nier, it's not the best ever (Chrono Cross is), but it's pretty stunning stuff, and easily overlooked because no one bought the game.

I took the game off my backlog last weekend and played through it twice in 24 hours! I can't believe no one bought it! It's so good!

Some OSTs that I've discovered recently of games that I've never played (so no emotional attachment to the game/music).

Ace Combat serie OST quite epic stuff there (MGS fans should appreciate) :

Romancing Saga Minstrel Song OST, by Kenji Ito (Seiken Dentsetsu GB music composer), some of the best JRPG combat themes, for example :

I dont know, but i believe the skyrims OST is not getting the praise it deserves (skyrim in general gets to much hate, thats just my opinion). I even have it on my mp3 player and listen to the songs while i am outside.

you know, listening to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM2WsOXJMmo

while you run though snow covered woods, be exhausted as all hell, is really .... i dont know, "encouraging" might be the right word.

skyrim is the first game OST that managed to fight its way out of my console, into my computer, mp3 player, car etc.

I never really understood the whole Shatter thing. I bought the game based on someone's recommendation that the music was amazing. I thought it was good, but definitely not great. Seemed pretty standard fare. Different strokes I guess.

The soundtrack that most impressed me this gen (though not an obscure pick) was Portal 2.

Neir has one of the most daring and fearless video game soundtracks I have ever heard.

A video game soundtrack that is predominantly opera(ish)? How could that be good, I thought.

Wow, was I wrong to underestimate. It is an incredible experience.

Oh,

And Sword and Sworcey...

Not only my favorite Zelda soundtrack, but also one that wasn't getting much attention, as not so many people have played the DS games.

The entire Killzone series have some of the most impressive orchestral tunes I've ever heard.

And, uh, Brutal Legend...

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Hard to recommend only one though since these are awesome.

Half-Minute Hero has a pretty cool soundtrack.

The Princess Running Through the Grasslands
Optimistic Way
Casablanca

More people should become acquainted with the music of Doshin the Giant. Composed by post-rock musician Tatsuhiko Asano, the music is simply mesmerizing and utterly unique amongst game music soundtracks the world over. All of the tracks from the album and its reprint can be found on YT—I've uploaded everything except the bonus track from the reprint, which was recently uploaded as well.

I'm listening to this track right now. The excellent guitar playing is enhanced by a very unique atmosphere of sound. It's great! To be honest, I probably would not know about this game if it wasn't for Super Smash Brothers Melee, but this is the first time I've listened to it's soundtrack. Thanks. = )

Most definitely one of Masashi Hamauzu's best soundtracks. So much amazing violin work. @_@

Masashi Hamauzu is one of my favorite composers. These tracks are beautiful, just like his Final Fantasy contributions. It's too bad this game wasn't localized though.

VVVVVV has some great songs. Pushing Onwards and Positive Force are up there with even Mario Galaxy as some of the most joyful songs I've heard in games. Also, chiptunes!

And +1 Xenoblade for those that haven't heard it yet.

Battlefield 3.

No, seriously.

The Battlefield 3 campaign sucks but holy hell god damn if its soundtrack isn't 1. totally awesome and 2. totally not something you'd expect. Seriously, listen to this. Sure, the main theme just sounds like it's been run through Bitcrusher in Garageband a few too many times, but the actual soundtrack is totally nuts. 80s synth, weird beats, and even some spooky ambient tracks.

It's a real shame that it was all used in such a poor campaign.

Oh, and a Public Service Announcement for the best almost-a-soundtrack-but-it-never-really-came-out-because-the-mod-died: NeoTokyo
