Hey all I'm finally a bit older, and going on vacation with my wife and son. I just want to know from our experts here are there any must see/do things that I could potenitally miss or some good places to eat at?

If you're going to Universal Parks, stay at one of their hotels. Resorts are amazing, workers are amazing, and you get front of the line at all their parks, assuming they still do that.

I remember our first family trip to Disneyworld. We were at Epcot Center and my dad really needed to use the bathroom. At the time, it was just me, my brother, and my dad; I'm not sure where my mom was. My dad did not want to leave my brother and I unattended so he told us to come into the bathroom while he takes care of business. He rushes us in there and slams one of the bathroom stall doors. My brother and I are just waiting there thinking what ride we'll do next! Suddenly, continuous farts and other various shitting noises fill the bathroom. My dad's having explosive diarrhea. My brother and I start laughing and yelling. Then the smell figuratively drenches us. It was, needless to say, disgusting. My brother and I say things like, "hurry up, dad. it's so gross!" "I know, guys. One minute!" He exits the stall, washes his hands, says "don't look in there. come on, we have to go." He described it later to us; I guess he shat all over the stall's walls and toilet. From now on, whenever a family member has explosive diarrhea, we refer to it as "having an Epcot."

Star Tours is still really fun
History of Movies(or whatever it's called in Hollywood Studios) is really fascinating.
Animal Kingdom in general is incredible.
Muppets is incredible
Get there early for the safari ride at Animal Kingdom because it's the best ride there and everyone knows it.

Epcot's kind of boring other than the Nordic log ride and Mexico

Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom are amazing though.

edit: For god's sake, make sure you eat at Rainforest Cafe

Places to eat in the parks are mostly crap. If you want a cool experience, I would recommend the Sci-Fi Drive In Theatre at MGM for a very entertaining meal.

Nice. Sounds like a definite must-see/do!

Just Disney World? Eh, make sure to stay for the fireworks at night.

Animal Kingdom is great. Try to be there around sunset so the animals are active.

Did you rent a car? Because I can tell you a few great places to eat around here.

You're completely wrong.

There's plenty to do at Epcot, especially Soarin' and Test Track.

I guess it appeals to different people, but myself and my family love it.

Star Tours II & Epcot Center

Here is a breakdown of the MUST SEE attractions at the 4 parks:

Magic Kingdom Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, It's a Small World, Peter Pan, Peoplemover, Jungle Cruise, Hall of Presidents, and Mickey's Phillarmagic

Epcot Center: Spaceship Earth, Captain EO, The Land pavilion, Soarin', Mission Space, Test Track, World Showcase (basically all the countries) and Maelstorm.

Disney Studios: Star Tours II, Twilight Zone:Tower of Terror, The Great Movie Ride, Indiana Jones stunt show, and the tram tour.

Animal Kingdom: Kilimanjaro Safari, Expedition Everest, Dinosaur, Kali River Rapids, and the two nature walks Pangani exploration trail and the asian exploration trail.

Must Rides:

Magic Kingdom
Pirates of the Carribean (way better than the movies)
Splash Mountain
Thunder Mountain
Haunted Mansion
Space Mountain
Buzz Lightyear Spin
(Left out the stuff in Fantasy Land)
(I also love the Carasoul of Progress. A little gem that I'm sure Walt's will forces them to keep up, because it's hidden in the corner and no one ever goes on it. Most people won't)

Epcot
SPACESHIP Earth (best ride ever)
Test Track
Soarin'
Maelstrom
(take the time to check out the countries as well)

MGM
Tower of Terror
Rockn' Roller Coaster
Great Movie Ride
Star Tours
(New Toy Story ride is cool from what I've heard, never done it)

Animal Kingdom
It's Tough to Be a Bug
Expedition Everest
Dinosaur
Kali Rapids
Safari Ride

I've done this schedule and then some and have easily done all four parks in a day.

If you plan to visit any other theme parks, I would recommend Universal Island of Adventure. Lots of rides, big and small.

Cocoa Beach is a nice place to wind down.

Yeah this. I'm a Disney nut so it pains me to say it, but Islands of Adventure has surpassed pretty much any Disney park, and I have yet to even see the Harry Potter land.

Original Universal park isn't that great however.

yea i'd also say your better off going to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure instead. The Harry Potter land over there is far more impressive and thrilling than anything you will see at Walt Disney World.

I'm going to be there next weekend and I'm stoked to go. It's my first time going to Disney World but as a SoCal native I've been to Disneyland a ton of times and know that park inside and out. I'm probably most excited to see the differences between the two parks. We are going for a week and will definitely hit up Islands of Adventure for one day out of that week.

There's something 'magical' about Disney that still has an impact on me at my age.

It's something Universal has never done for me.

I wish I had a kid/neice/nephew I could take to Disney World and rediscover it all with them. Going to Disney was like going to the North Pole. It had this genuinely magical, larger than life feeling as a kid. Good times.

Just a couple tips off the top of my head...

Make sure you grab fast-passes for Toy Story Mania and Soarin' as soon as you enter the parks (Hollywood Studios and Epcot respectively). They will run out very early in the day, and both rides can have wait times up to two hours on crowd heavy days.

Make sure you see Illuminations in Epcot. Probably my favorite night time show. If you have enough time before the trip, you can reserve a private pontoon boat that sits under the "International Gateway Bridge" for a private viewing of the show. Pricey, but if you are only going once it's a fun treat. http://allears.net/btp/illum.htm Otherwise be prepared to find seating almost and hour before the show. The steps on the Canadian pavilion are a good spot if it's crowded.

If your son loves pirates (and you have an extra $100 lying around), check out the Pirate's League in the Magic Kingdom. It's like a little boutique where you undergo a complete transformation into a pirate - pirate name, make-up, costuming, and photos. The whole thing is really well done and the cast members are hilarious and really into it.
Bonus Point - You get to take hilarious ride photos for the rest of the day.

When the Wishes fireworks show starts in the Magic Kingdom the three 7-Seas Lagoon resorts (Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian) play the music in sync to the show. This means you can watch the fireworks from the beach of the Polynesian or from the California Grill in the Contemporary.

Most of all, take your time. There are so many hidden things and intricate details among the parks and resorts that it really pays off to slow down and look around. Things like hidden Mickeys are fun to look for.

I'll edit this later if I think of anything else.

Sunscreen. I don't care that it is Winter, wear sunscreen (Especially if you are in Animal Kingdom)

As for rides, I'm a fan of Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest, Star Tours, and Muppetvision, but I would say to just try and go on anything.

Also, go to Universal

It's something Universal has never done for me.

I would argue that Islands of Adventure does a good job of that. The amount of production that went into the scenery there is absolutely astounding. You really do feel as if you are going from one land to the next.

But yeah, there's none of that at Universal proper.

Hollywood Studios is the best park imo. Tower of Terror, Rock'n'roller coaster, Indiana Jones stunt show.
Magic Kingdom is good but more dependant on tastes.

Animal Kingdom was miserable, everything had 3Xs the wait(none worth it imo), also food/drinks seemed alot more expensive.

If you can also try to get to Universal Studios.

Epcot's kind of boring other than the Nordic log ride...

Indeed.

...and Mexico.

Mexico's ride used to be nice and relaxing, if a bit dull. Now it's awful. Since they rebranded it to have Disney characters in it (The Three Caballeros), it's loud and annoying.

Honestly, I love Epcot, all around. Whenever I go to Disney, I stop by there for at least an hour or two on almost every day, exploring the countries and just walking around. As a kid, I thought the park was boring. Now, I can't get enough of it.

Just came back from Orlando. Did magic kingdom at Disney and did islands of adventure and universal studios at universal. Splash mountain and the other ride beside it were shut down when I went so I didn't get to go on that. The haunted house was great, i really enjoyed that. Stay for the fireworks at the end of the night and then wander around for 20-30 minutes. It's not worth fighting the hordes after the fireworks rush. Although we took the ferry out because someone had said it was neat but it wasn't really, just take the train instead.

Lots of people go to watch the big parade around midday. If you have small kids it might be worth it, otherwise it's a good chance to catch some rides with shorter lines. As a 26 year old with his wife we didn't have all that much interest in it. The monsters comedy show was surprizingly well done. At first i thought it was a pre-recorded show but it's characters on a screen linked to live comedians.

Hit a little bit of everything, rides like winnie the pooh and peter pan aren't worth much of a wait in line, just get the express pass for those rides if you want to see them. They're alright but they're short and meant for small children.

Disney had better atmosphere and polish than Universal, but universal also felt like more of a party. Harry potter land was smaller than I expected, still was enjoyable though but the lack of space that Universal has compared to Disney becomes very obvious.

You should get drunk in front of the Tower of Terror and get pepper sprayed by some rent-a-cop and punch him a lot while getting yelled at to stop because there are kids around.

...

On a more serious note I'd strongly recommend you guys go to the Hoopty Doo Review. It's super corny...but you can't help but love the hell out of it and eat tons of crazy food. Unlimited beer, soda and sangrias with interactive crowd stuff and singing and dancing.

As lame as it sounds (and it IS lame is a lot of ways), it's really fun. Something you guys would get a kick out of as well as the kids.

DEFINITELY go see the Fantasmic show. It's awesome. You'll get wet if it's windy out, but the atmosphere for that show just rules. You have to wait a bit to get decent seats (read: like 2 hours) but I think it's worth it. Your kid will thank you afterwards.

Star Tours is really awesome and constantly changes so if your kid likes Star Wars at all he'll love it and want to go on it many times.

I'm really weird and love the hell out of Captain EO...the Michael Jackson pseudo-simulator thing. Man is that theatre amazing...best sound system I've ever heard anywhere by 1000%.

Your kid won't have the patience for Epcot...but he'll love the stuff in Tomorrowland like the Laugh Factory and the Toy Story alien shooting game.

Tower of Terror is a must, as is Rockin' Roller Coaster.

Walking around Boardwalk Disney is pretty cool, they have really entertaining street performers that your kid would probably like like magicians and clowns and whatnot.

Indiana Jones Stunt Show is great.

The Stunt Car Show is great.

Dinosaur is awesome. Go on that for sure. The ice-themed yeti roller coaster is pretty cool as well.

...Disney was pretty cool when we went last year despite being way too old for it. Our favorite part about the whole thing was seeing all the horribly depressed kids all over the place. They hate the sun. They hate the walking. They hate the lines. It's glorious!

Illuminations MUST be seen.

It's this big laser light show spectacular at Epcot. It happens at night to close the park, and everyone lines up around the little lake the the countries circle around. It gets CRAZY though so if you want a good view you might want to stake out your space say 30 mins before hand.

Also try and make the most out of the fast passes. Get a fast pass for say the Rock'n Roller Coaster, and then go ride Tower of Terror. Then you can hit up the Coaster right after, and skip a ton of the line.

Also the food at certain places is really shitty and/or expensive for what you get. Other places it's frick'n amazing. Avoid the "cheap" mass burger stands in say the Magic Kingdom, and hit up more specialty places like the Rainforest Cafe or I like the drive in movie theater place in MGM. It's amazing how much better the food is, and how it's not that much more expensive over the regular junk that sucks.

I can't agree. I'm going in June and my excitement for Disney is pretty far ahead of Universal and I loved Harry Potter when we went in December 2010. No other parks have that Disney feel. Not to mention the design of IoA kind of stinks. Nothing like the mood breaker of hearing the Jurassic Park theme in Harry Potter.

Disneyland is a disgrace in comparison to World.

This is false. They both have advantages over the other. With DCA and Disneyland being so close together you can do a ride marathon of almost all the best Disney rides. Park hopping isn't nearly as fun and cool in DW. And duplicate rides are often better in one park over the other. For example, Disneyland's Pirates, MK's Haunted Mansion, DHS's Tower of Terror. I know people say Space Mountain is better in Disneyland, too, but for me the differences weren't as obvious as those other rides.

Here's some tips for getting maximum enjoyment. Get to the parks 30 minutes before opening. Learn to love the fastpass. If you get extra magic hours, take advantage but be warned those parks are always the busiest ones that day. Leave by noon for another park if you have EMH. Avoid the specific park altogether if you can't do EMH.

Oh my god...do NOT go to Universal if you don't absolutely love love love Harry Potter. The Harry Potter ride is in fact very cool...but it costs like $80-120 bucks a head to get in...and the fast pass system doesn't apply to Harry Potter at all because waiting in line IS PART OF THE RIDE! #%$&@!!!!

Universal feels like a place that is trying really hard to be magical and awesome and only kind of looks like one. It doesn't feel awesome and it isn't awesome. I don't know how else to describe it, but the place just feels dead compared to Disney.

Beat EviLore at pool.
Animal Kingdom is the worst park. Magic Kingdom and the MGM are my two favorite parks. Magic Kingdom has a lot of kid rides but I just love it though reminds me of Disney movies and being a kid. Ecpot is good too. Enjoy it.

1. Magic Kingdom - go in the afternoon and stay for the fireworks and the electric parade.
2. Animal Kingdom is awesome - Busch Gardens can fuck right off as far as I'm concerned.
3. Uniersal Studios/Islands of Adventure - don't expect to get much out of Harry Potter though, it's stupidly busy.
4. Typhoon Lagoon is great if you havent been to a massive water park (we just don't have them in the U.K).
5. A day in Epcot is fantastic - so much to do and see (also more brilliant fireworks every night).
6. An few hours in the evening at downtown Disney - well worth it.
7. Discovery Cove - if you can afford it, do it! (Sea-World itself I found pretty disappointing).

100% agreed.

It lacks that charm and nostalgia.

It really depends on how old your son is since if he is too small obviously all of the more intense rides are off limits. I'll place an * next to the more intense ones that I have placed on this list.

I would say:

Magic Kingdom

Buzz Lightyear Spin
Space Mountain*
Thunder Mountain*
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Haunted Mansion
Winnie The Pooh
Wishes Night Show

Epcot

Spaceship Earth
Mission: Space*
Soarin'
World Showcase shopping and dining (Seriously, this will be a lot of your day at Epcot, especially the later part and it is usually one of my favourites out of any WDW trip)
Illuminations Night Show (the best one in Walt Disney World)

Hollywood Studios

Star Tours
Indiana Jones Stunt Show
Great Movie Ride
Tower of Terror*
Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show

Animal Kingdom

Kilimanjaro Safari
Expedition Everest*
Dinosaur
Finding Nemo The Musical
The Asia walking trail

Things I suggest avoiding:

Splash Mountain (Most of it is broken a lot of the time and you also get pretty wet)
Kali Rapids (You get mega-wet and the ride is super short)
Backlot Tour (Boring)

Pretty much anything you do will be fun though so enjoy. I recommend spending more time in Magic Kingdom and Epcot than the other two just because there is much more to do and they feel more complete (plus are open later and have nighttime entertainment).

Go to Universal Orlando instead, stay in one of the resorts on property, use your room key to ride every ride with no lines as many times as you want.

Not sure if they do Fantasmic anymore at MGM (Hollywood Studios I think it's called now) but that show was awesome.

I haven't been to Disney studios since I was like 10 or something, but I've been all to the other parks in the last 3 years and I have to say that Epcot and Animal Kingdom are well worth going even as an adult. Like a couple of other people have said make sure to be inside Animal Kingdom as early as possible and do the Safari ride when you first get into the park because the animals are most active at dawn. Blizzard Beach is also a great water that is really the only Disney park I still get excited to go to. I don't know what your tolerance for the cold, but its not really that cold here in Florida right now.

Oh and you MUST MUST eat a giant turkey leg in Magic Kingdom during the parade. If you dont you are doing it wrong.

I don't know what your budget is like, but since you are going to be in Orlando anyways you should go see the Cirque Du Soleil act that they do in the Downtown Disney area. Its not the best of that company's act, but its well worth the money especially if you've never seen any of their shows. I think you need to buy tickets for the show about week in advance, but trust me its great.

If you are going to the Magic Kingdom, I suggest you don't try to rush it...It can easily take 2 days to see it all and try to go on off-days to avoid the crowds. There is too much to see and do there to try and recommend any one thing over another though.

I would tell you this, if you are planning on Park Hopping and want to see the Animal Kingdom, it is by far the worst of the parks. Go in the morning, watch A Bugs Life and the Dinosaur ride and get out.

I guess it appeals to different people, but myself and my family love it.

As well as Mission Space. Just do the real orange line, not wussy green line.

Epcot is possibly my favorite of the parks. It's so open and pleasant.
