Pachter: Nintendo in disarray, blown it with Wii U.

I don't understand how Pachter thinks Nintendo should have revealed the price of their upcoming console when details on the Wii U are still very much in the dark.

If I had three wishes, I'd wish for more wishes, and then wish for Michael Pachter to STFU.

These threads are always awesome. A dude that makes 6 figures to make observations for investors is belittled by a bunch of raging man babies who don't understand what he is even talking about. Never change GAF. Keep up the good work Michael.

You are so full of shit I wonder what it is you poop.
pachter has been proven time and again to have absolutely no understanding of the VG market AT ALL. From the usual Nintendo comments to Red Dead Redemption will fail in Europe because Europe hates everything cowboy (let's forget for 2 seconds that kids at school in Europe spend an ungodly amount of time playing indians vs cowboys or that if there's anything Europe absolutely love about the US it's fucking cowboys heck the myth of the US is tied to that pretty much).

We're talking about someone who is actually more consistently wrong than pretty much everyone in Sales Age thread.
The mastrom guy for all the crap he gets and all the calls of being crazy is at least consistent and not ungoddamnly wrong every time he makes an analysis on the market. He's even made an analysis on that guy and came to the conclusion that he's more of a politician than an analyst.
I'm fairly ok with never having threads covering malstrom crazy posts on gaf but I keep wondering why the hell we keep getting threads on someone more obnoxious, wrong and trollish than that.

They've only been doing this since 2005. Hell, they told people what they were doing numerous times. But all we kept hearing was, "hahaha Nintendo so crazy".

That's because videogame journalism is crap, and btw they've stopped following BOS or anything related to that with the 3DS and onward.
The 3DS is quite clearly a sustaining innovation of the DS and the Wii U is targetting up market so...yeah.

"I'm impressed that they had the confidence to charge $249; I think that they're going to regret it," warns the mighty steed. "It's going to sell out and they're leaving money on the table. I'm impressed that they're this consumer friendly -- that really matters. So it's not shareholder friendly, but consumers are going to love the $249 price point. We can call bullsh*t on Reggie [Fils-Aime] a lot, but I actually agree with him. If you explain the feature set to most consumers, they would say $300 or more. So $249 is a bargain, and I think this thing is going to be on eBay for $500 immediately."

THIS is the statement of someone who have any idea how the market react?

The 3DS would have probably been welcomed much better after the launch if it had the titles that we had this fall for it. If they had Mario and Mario Kart for instance in the first few months I think 250 might have been salvagable.

The 3DS, yes. The Wii U? It's too early to tell. Depends on what Nintendo chooses to do with it. I could envision it being either. We just don't know enough yet about it.

For what it's worth, there's nothing wrong with them abandoning pure BOS for a while. Innovations which allow for a cogent BOS are often hard to come by.

I think $199 might have been salvageable. $250 is pushing it.

And that's a better analysis than what Pach did!

Good job! If he's getting 6figures salary for this above analysis you can go to his employer and ask for his job.

It is quite evident since pretty much the NES days, if not before, that people don't actually buy a system if it doesn't have the games they want. So his talk about customers absolutely loving the thing regardless of what games it will have is incredibly stupid.

People so love technology over the job the tech does that they bought en masse the 360 arcade version when it was priced below the Wii, amirite?

It's election year in 2012 for some countries and well I prefer to have my political statements not meshed with my entertainment thank you very much.

If they're abandoning BOS they can say goodbye to Wii level success too, it's ok if that's not what they want though.
What they've shown so far of the Wii U is NOT cogent with the idea of them following the BOS.
It's still early and they can still change plans but Nintendo working on Pikmin 3 is not a good indication that they are.

This sums it all up indeed.

At least this thread made me discover that :

- Some people still think wii is a fad...guys, 6 years with your eyes closed? Doesn't it hurt a little bit?

- Some of you have wonderful cristal balls, that I may have to consult once in a while.

So Pachter, thank you for that.

Opening their eyes would hurt them more :/

You're right. Let's do it for good - the quicker, the better :

- Obama is president
- Michael Jackson is dead
- Osama is dead
- Kadhafi is dead
- The crisis has fucked everything
- Wii is the best selling platform of this generation

See? It wasn't that hard!

Osama is dead too yo

*sigh*

- The DS is ridiculous, gimmicky, and will be crushed by the PSP
- The Wii is underpowered, gimmicky, and will be crushed by Xbox/PS3
- The 3DS is underpowered, gimmicky, and will be crushed by the Vita
- The WiiU is underpowered, gimmicky, and will be crushed by the NextBox/PS4

Can people like, stop now?

I'm honestly shocked that this joke character isn't a banned word around here.
I cannot recall one time he actually added any benefit to any discussion he has been involved in or the subject of.

Of course we don't understand what he's talking about, since he's talking nonsense

Fanboyism isn't based in rational thought or actual observation, so no. This happens until the Earth crashes into the sun, and nobody ever learns anything.

He doesn't get paid to make observations about Nintendo AFAIK, in fact he doesn't even specialize in video game companies.

His crazy video game statements are just his hobby.

lol patcher. this was the guy who was tooting his own horn saying "I told you so!!!" after the WiiU was announced because he had "predicted" the wiihd several years back. what a joke.

Not only is WiiU the full-blown successor to the Wii and not just an HD enabled update like his so-called prediction, it was also announced 5 years after the wii was released. this means it fits in with the traditional console lifecycle and isn't some interim product to tide consumers over. the saddest part is that he originally made this prediction in 2009 or something and would say that wiihd was coming "soon" whenever he was asked about Nintendo and the Wii.

I'm somewhat surprised that Pachter's prognostications aren't blacklisted from GAF the same way that sites that report non-NPD sales numbers are.
Seeing how they both have equally dubious track records. It would only seem fair to blacklist Pachter as well.

I don't understand how Pachter seemed to get elevated compared to the other analysts you see making equally worthless predictions. How is he well-known?

He should be banned like chartz and that site you can go to for Nintendo news.

I don't think they did. Though it will be interesting to see how its priced. I do agree it should've been released sooner. But I know why they didn't, the Wii was selling like hot cakes most of the time.

I'll only be interested in the system when its has a Zelda and Metroid games. But since we just got a Zelda, I'm going to say that won't be anytime soon. Metroid is about due time for another game though.

Has it OFFICIALLY been confirmed that the touch screen on the Wii U's controller is essentially the quality/fidelity of the first DS screen?

I know I've heard rumblings that it's essentially the DS screen tossed into a controller.

AKA - no multi-touch?
Surely not, it really should be capacitive. Resistive touchscreens were awful 2 years ago, in a years time they'll be positively antiqauted. It would be a huge mistake IMO.

I seriously can't stand this tool of a man, but the more I think about it I just realise that Pachter is a sign of gaming's immaturity as a whole, and the day gaming is accepted as a genuine art form and not just a mindless play-thing is the day people like this cease finding a voice in the wider gaming media.

It still sickens me that he gets paid for these so called 'expert' opinions though. How many times must he be dead wrong for people to figure out that the average GAF member is a better judge of the industries future than he is?

I wouldn't be surprised if this guy gets paid to make certain 'predictions' so as to upset the market.

Anyway, I for one am looking forward to what the Wii U brings to the table, even though I can't say I'm a big fan of the controller. Nintendo Network seems like a step in the right direction. Also, Project CARS awyee

Hahaha xHAASx. Poor fellas head exploded when he found out that MK WII has outsold every CoD.
I don't get this comment, but I like listening pachter. Even when he is wrong, his reasoning behind it is usually coherent. I consider it a step above the usual forum fare when posters give their wacky suggestions and predictions for companies related to the industry.
You really shouldn't, because his track record is remarkably poor. Statistically, someone making completely random predictions has a higher likelihood of being right.

This discussion already happened a few pages ago and whichever side of the fence you sit on its undeniable that there are at least several advantages to resistive over capacitive
