PS Vita western launch thread, p. 2 | Simply the most desirable handheld yet released

not weird at all. I bought Hustle Kings on PS3 because I have fond memories playing backstreet billiard on PS1 but I never really play HK on my PS3. but now on vita, it's so perfect to play HK everywhere, just before bed, break at work, etc.

this is one reason why I'm so hyped for Vita. PSN downloadable game. they're so much better served as handheld game than playing at home on big tv. I hope Critter Crunch and MnM Clash of Heroes make it to Vita PSN.

Oh God - I really hope that Critter Crunch comes to the Vita. I was really disappointed that it never made its way to the PSP, but the Vita screen would fit that game so well (and Clash of Heroes). If Critter Crunch comes out for the Vita, I will probably end up buying a second unit for my wife. She likes taking it away from me to play Lumines, but for CC I would probably never get it back!

Also - for the complaints about the bubbles. I really didn't like them at first when I was just running the default backgrounds and bubble lay outs - but then I discovered the custom wallpapers and now have about 8 pages with custom layouts and really love the look of it. There are some changes that I would like - folders, the ability to change the order of entire pages - but for now I feel that it is no real hassle to navigate. With that said, right now I have 20 games installed, so I will probably want folders pretty soon.
 
Just different. Personally I would start with Oath as I consider it to be a perfect game (seriously), but Ys 7 is still a very good game. Oath is the kind of game you will beat in a few days and then go right back and try at another difficulty. It's short and incredibly sweet. Ys 7 is much longer.
So is Ys Seven, I beat it over the weekend and went straight onto Nightmare.
 
PSSuite will allow developers to target specific devices. It is true that the code will run across all platforms due to the fact that all PS Suite devices will be running the same VM but you will be able to tailor make you apps to target a specific device and you will be able to block it running on certain devices as well. This is sort of like how Apple IOS apps work in that some work only on ipad and not on the iphone.


So the original point still stands. All/most PS suite apps should work on vita as well as PS certified devices.
The whole point of the PS suite is to have a network of cross platform games.

being able to target specific devices is stupid, imo. And goes against what the PS suite is trying to do.
what seperates vita PSsuite games from vita PSN games?
 
I've brought this before, but I never got a straight answer: am I the only one with a screen so sensitive it registers touch inputs before contact? It's starting to scare/annoy me.

Is this possibly a bug? I was playing NG:Sigma today and it would randomly go into first person mode (triggered by touching the screen) even though I definitely was not. I also experienced something similar in Wipeout.

When they're moving, you can move across the screen.
This is what made me think the game wasn't registering my swipes at first until i realized what was happening.
 
Well, assuming I were to get both, should I start with 7 then move to Felghana? Cuz I can get both. Gaf seems to be raving about it, which is odd as I've never heard of the series in my life at all.

It doesn't really matter which is first and both are great games. Personally, I'd go with Oath first as it's the better of the two but short enough so that you can jump right into 7 after if you feel like it. Oath also gets you into the meat of the game quicker than 7.

So lockerz is legit right? I'm still flip-flopping between buying the Vita and knowing that I can get the 3G/Wifi version for $250 will definitely help me lean towards buying one.
 
Thought this was neat - was in a party chatting with my bro while playing Hot Shots, and I get a call. Leave the Vita, talk to someone for about 15 min, come back and my VITA is in sleep mode. Put on my headphones: I was still in party chat.

My Vita went to sleep mode while I was in a party and I continued to be able to talk even while the device was in sleep mode.

now that's a mobile console right there
 
Two things:

FOr those that think the sticks are a bit too stiff they break in very nicely after about 20 hours of play.

Secondly, Uncharted proves without a shadow of a doubt that console quality games can be fun and awesome on a handheld.
 
Beat Uncharted this afternoon. Can't decide between Hotshots, Rayman, or Wipeout. How is the replay value on Rayman? I've actually never played a Rayman.
 
First capacitive display device?

My phone does it as well. Capacitive displays can register a touch by just getting extremely close to the screen because because the screen and humans are conductors, and you can conduct electricity while just being very close to the object, and not touching it. Kinda like static electricity.

I actually it's my 4th or 5th. I'm also aware of how capacitive displays works, but this is undoubtedly the most heat sensitive one I used.

It messed up a few confirm/cancel screens, and submitted the AT&T subscription form a couple of times. I hope it's something that will slowly go away with either more use or FW updates.

Yeah, it's the same with mine. I can hover my finger over the screen and it's registers contact.

Happens to me too, but only every so often. Usually it's while I'm trying to enter my PSN password. =/

Same problem here. Typing using the onscreen keyboard sometimes becomes a chore because of some accidental keypresses which I don't even do (screen somehow magically registers a touch when my finger hovers over it)
Phew. Good to know.

After about a dozen failed attempts, I just now got near my high score only to fall a few K short because a skin change threw me off. Back to square one. :( Screw you, LCD Soundsystem.

Awesome game, probably my favorite of the launch.

Yep, once you get 'in the zone' sort of speak, those skin changes throw me off a lot...especially some of the really weird ones. I am lovin this game, although the world block gets demolished so easily now. They need to increase the number of blocks for it.
 
Has anyone timed how long it takes their Vita to fully charge from red? I didn't do a proper test, but surprisingly I think mine just fully charged in a little under an hour

Thats happened to me a few times. Shows how crazy responsive the hardware is. lol

I was assuming its overcompensating for those who put a screen protector since mine is naked.
 
Can't bring myself to play Uncharted over Lumines, Stardust, and Tactics Ogre. Played through the first chapter, which was impressive but not mindblowing. I'm guessing it'll get better as it goes, but it's hard to shake the feeling that it's not quite the real deal (some of the dialogue feels off, compared to the other games).

This Rayman is more like a contemporary platformer, with time trial challenges for stages and a number of collectibles that unlock bonus stages and such. Really blowing it out and finishing everything takes some doing.

In terms of its play style, it is a pure 2D platformer with emphasis on timing and level flow. You can run through stages without stopping once you learn the patterns.

That's exactly what I did today and I just 100% it. In fact I beat the 15-piece one in 41.xx seconds. It only took that long because I was waiting for the sides to wiggle so I could slide everything over.

Rayman without a doubt. It has great replay value especially if you want to 100% it. You can unlock new chars, new stages, time trials etc, plus its gorgeous. It really might be the definitive version for on the go.

Isn't it the only version on the go, and it has no co op (stupid since they could have at least had 2 vita local co op)

I still think it's fair to raise the issue up in technical discussions if only to encourage devs to avoid it, but it's nowhere near as serious or experience-breaking as I thought it would be. It took my eyes a few seconds to adjust and that was it.

I'm talking from my experience with HSG though, where the biggest offender is the lower-res HUD rather than graphics, but I haven't tried Uncharted GA yet. I'm downloading the demo to see if the amount of bitching prior to launch was justified.

I'm liking it more than Uncharted 1, so I'd just say it gets better as it goes on. No way it's more impressive graphically than Uncharted 1 though.
 
why did they design the OS to be so goofy & twee? I love my VITA but wish the OS was as classy & sleek as XMB

I love the OS, the only change I would want from an aesthetic point of view is allow us to make the icons smaller! There's no reason why they should be that big, we aren't 95 year old grannies here...

Downloading the Rayman demo. The only thing that I have to complain about with this launch is how terribly slow the PSN servers are. I've got a 50 mb/ 30 mb connection, and it takes forever to download from the store. Hopefully it's just launch strain.

And I love that game!

Shadows are horribly pixelated, and there are plenty of jaggies. The thing is when you get immersed into the action, it tends to dissipate. I've played through all of them, and outside of 2, this was my favorite one.

on the contrary, i think it's a huge problem in everybody's golf and almost a non-issue in uncharted. even the menus are the wrong res in everybody's golf.
 
I was pretty down on sub-HD games before I played the Vita, but having played Gravity Rush (demo), Uncharted and HSG, I'll say it no longer is an issue for me.

I also know that as developers get further accustomed to the hardware, one of two things will happen. Resolution will increase, and/or other effects or graphic techniques will improve.

Both will result in beautiful games, and games like Gravity Rush and Uncharted already look terrific from the start of the cycle, so it bodes well for future titles.

My biggest wish (after folders) is that it didn't install a bubble for each retail card game. There's no need for me to see bubbles for game cards I don't have inserted. Keep that shit in the background and only show me the card I have inserted.

Still looks pretty bonkers despite that and is perfectly playable, but I'm hopeful they keep Sony Bend on the franchise for a second outing that can maybe correct a few of the missteps I've read about with this one (can't judge it myself after only one chapter of course).

Still excited to play more, especially hearing things like it's better than UC1.

It gets much much better around chapter 10+. It starts you off nice and slow and eases you in but yea it takes off...I'm talking big puzzles, big gun fights, lots of platforming, bigger sets etc.
 
I see that remote play is severely limited in terms of games. Is there any possibility the list will expand? I would love to play Demon's/Dark Souls on the Vita.

So my mind was blown by unit 13! Shooters can absolutely work on this thing.

Ps. I loved the "I am in full on snake eater mode" line.

Haven't played it but the aiming in Uncharted and the rear zoom is really good imo. I can definitely see COD working well.
 
I was able to purchase games through PSN on day one but now I keep getting an error saying "The connection to the server has been lost."

Very frustrating.

Hmm... I didn't actually notice it much, only the fire and some of the gun sparks were offputting. Looks nothing like the screenshots led me to believe.
I actually thought it looked better than U1 in parts. Has a lot more detail, everything felt more alive, more vibrant, but had lower resolution.

That said, low res games never bother me if theres decent enough AA and good art direction. ie: Resistance3. really sub HD, but one of the best looking games of last year
