(TIP) Get a real Job

Just when you may have thought the ongoing battle between the 99% and the 1% was dying down, it may have been reignited. A wealthy banker left a $1.33 tip on a $133 lunch at the True Food Kitchen restaurant in Newport Beach, California.

To add insult to injury the word "tip" was circled on the receipt, and the banker wrote "get a real job" on the bill. The picture of the receipt was taken and uploaded to the blog Future Ex-Banker by a person who was dining with the anonymous banker. As expected, the blog received a lot of attention and has now been taken down. The author of the blog wrote, "mention the 99% in my boss' presence and feel his wrath. So proudly does he wear his 1% badge of honor that he tips exactly 1% every time he feels the server doesn't sufficiently bow down to his holiness."

And in gratitude for his "tips", this guy no doubt gets extra-special "ingredients" added to his meals when he comes back.

$1.33 is more of a tip than I recieved all of last year.

Ice cold.

But maybe the server gave him bad service? I would be mad to if I had to pay $133 for a meal and have a crappy server.

I have a feeling it's one of those rich-in-money-poor-in-sense people who assume that the people work in fast food are "public school graduates who never took college", ignoring the fact that said people are working in the fast food due to college expenses.

This is a good way to get to know the taste of your servers body fluids.

Tip comes after the meal, nothing is gonna happen to his food by that point. This douchebag probably already left the restaurant by the time the server read the tip portion on the receipt.

I read about this story over the weekend and I still can't believe how ridiculous the guy is. He might not want to eat out much anymore...

This is assuming neither party ever returns to the restaurant.

1%: "Get a job!"

99%: "I have one!"

1%: "Get a REAL job!"

This is assuming neither party ever returns to the restaurant.

This is a myth. I've worked at restaurants for quite a while and this never happens. Its mostly because it can't. Noone can possibly do anything to your food. Its way too risky. And even if they decide to give you bad service the servers are still fucked since you can just complain to the manager and it ends there.

Tipping on GAF? This won't end well.

I will say that on my recent trip to the states I felt pressured to tip even if the meal/service wasn't all that. What a shitty custom.

Don't be a cunt to the waiter, it's not their fault they don't get paid properly and have to live off strangers.

The job can't be that bad if you are working in a restaurant which is serving meals for about 133$, am I right? Am I? Guys?

Seems like a new twist on the "Overheard on the Goldman Sachs Elevator" concept, and about as credible. I'm guessing Future Ex Banker was looking for publicity and left that tip themselves.

Who the fuck spends $133 on lunch!?! I make that around in a week (I work part time but still)...

Well, it's always possible he was having lunch with a bunch of people and he paid for everyone. Still, the 1% tip is a really shitty and arrogant move.

The irony being that a waitress is making an honest living in the real economy making it by far more of a real job.

This is indeed the irony behind so much of this.

Here's a trend: people who are wealthy, but got wealthy by doing "real stuff" - things that create actual value, resources, and material improvements for society, show an interesting trend of not being arrogant greedy assholes who believe they're Anointed Ones. They tend to be the wealthy people who give much of their money to charity, invest in real public works, etc.

By contrast, people who become rich by gaming the system, making money by moving money around, tend to be those who lock their wealth in a vault and sit on it. They tend to be the arrogant pricks who think that they're simply more clever than the average person, because they figured out how to come out on top and join the class that dominates society. These people often give the impression that they're actually quite stupid in a general sense (outside of being skilled at the specific avenue they took to power and wealth). And they also tend to be the sociopaths whose inability to feel like a human being aided them in screwing their way to top.

People who become rich by doing real work at least understand that work is hard - all work, from doing dishes to designing silicon wafers. Anyone who works deserves respect, and already has a "real job". They also tend to comprehend that much of their success is built on luck - they may have worked hard, but the difference between themselves and someone who "failed" is often the capriciousness of fate. They were in the right place and time to jump into an opportunity, while another guy who worked just as hard got screwed.

Rich assholes have no understanding of any of that. They simply enjoy the feeling of franchise and superiority their position gives them (as the world of the rich is designed to take advantage of their money, and sell them a luxurious, exclusive life experience).

Crazy.
If I go to a restaurant, I pay WAY LESS, but give a MUCH LARGER tip.

And the waitress has a proper job, uncle scrooge here should stop being greedy (and actually get a proper job).

What an obnoxious fucking thing to do. Maybe next time if he orders seafood make the tartar sauce extra tangy...

"True Food Kitchen" sounds pretty damn pretentious. I'm going to make an educated guess and say that many assholes eat and work at this place.

Thanks for telling me I'm an asshole who has no concept of real work.

I worked as a waiter for 5 years. I think it's perfectly reasonable to not tip at all if your service sucks. That's just the way it should be.

Now, we don't know the whole story here but chances are the guy is just a total douche like the old guys who leave the fake bills that are actually jahova witness pamphlets.
