That's damn fucking impressive considering it's been under development for +2 years and the only thing we've seen/read/heard about it is that it's set during the American Revolution.

Bravo, Ubisoft.

Debut trailer is gonna blow everyone the fuck away.

Honestly i think in some areas, with the little i know, Ubisoft is leading the way in modern HD game development. Mainly for the segmented nature of their studios piecing out parts of a game and successfully merging them together, and integrating their cinematic endeavors with their game studios.

They still have plenty of problems though.

I'm still baffled at how they're the only studio in the world with multiple AAA projects being developed simultaneously. They've got Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed 3, Rainbow Six and god knows what else. All that for only one studio. Damn impressive even if they don't always have home runs.

Surely that can't be true. Off the top of my head, Squeenix has put out several games while Versus XIII was being made. At the very least XIII and XIII-2.

Despite being my favorite new series this gen, I generally wait a few months to pick AC games up because they price collapse so quickly. That said, this is almost certainly a Day 1.

Wii U version with a tablet map and way points, yes please!

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

Ghost Recon doesnt count?

Out of curiosity, what other console has seen so many entries in a series before it's successor was released/announced?
AC1, 2, BroHood, Rev, and 3. Damn

Anyone else like me only played (and only ever intend to play) the numbered entries?

I bought and played AC and AC2 day1. I only just got AC:Bro in December during the Steam sale, played a few hours so far. After I beat it, I plan on Youtubing the cutscenes in AC:Rev. Then I'm good to go for AC3 day 1.

Yeah? tons of contractors and probably used a lot of canadians' tax money to pay salaries.

Anvil engine came up quite early in this gen too.

Revelations, for reasons I cant point, seems slow as fuck and I'm having a hard time getting to finish it (although the winter onslaught of games is responsible too).

That's dumb. Bros 'N Rome is the best game of them all, and advances the present-time story some at least.

Revelations is pretty mediocre though and the story is worthless.

How is that impressive? Ubisoft Montreal has like 2000 employees.

I still haven't beaten Brotherhood or tried Revelations at all. I love the series but I got real fatigue from it. I'm the type of person that LOVES collectables and doing all objectives in games, but I also don't have as much time for gaming anymore. Brotherhood had SO much shit to do and things to finish and I wanted to do them all.

I stopped playing the main storyline though because I got up to the part where you have to hire people to be part of your group and shit. I hate this in games with a passion. I don't give a shit about hiring a gang I don't want to I just want to finish the game alone but instead they force you to do these dumb managing command stuff and it's so annoying and tiresome. I'll get through it one day but I want to do it soon because I'm really interested in the setting for AC3.

Don't do that to yourself. The ending of Revelations is magnificent and you have to play it to fully appreciate it.

AC: Rev was a big letdown for me but I'm still very excited to see how ACIII turns out.
I'm especially curious to see where the Animus will take us, now that Altair and Ezio are out of the loop.

I've heard it will supposedly wrap up Desmond's story so I think it's pretty cool that an entire franchise saga will have been released during one console generation (unlike Metroid Prime, God of War, Halo, etc.).

Like Mass Effect you mean?

I think it'd be naive to think that ME3 and AC3 are the last we're going to see of these franchises.

I'm sure the franchise will continue in some way, I just think it's cool that the current main character's story (Desmond's) will be wrapped up this gen.

And good call on Mass Effect, that's another one that will (supposedly?) end one major character's story arc, even with the rumors of ME4.

It is indeed like Mass Effect in the sense that AC3 will wrap up the current story arc and the role of the current main character (Desmond/Shepard) leaving the next-gen entries free to begin a new multi-game story from a different starting point.

He's a Native-American?

I'm totally down with this. I don't know how they can keep the sprawling cities with super high structures but I'm interested to see what they do.

Why are people surprised? The AC3 leak from a month ago that said it was the American Revolution said the main character was a native american :p

I knew it was during the American Revolution, but I didn't catch the Native American part.

This is why I have yet to play Brotherhood or Revelations. I want to see how the story plays out but I'm turned off by basically all of the new things these two added to the gameplay, especially the recruiting/training other assassins.

I really don't remember that second part.

Assassin's Creed heads to American Revolution - Rumour
New instalment to be announced before March 31, source claims

The next Assassin's Creed is set to feature a new protagonist and switch setting to the American Revolution, a source close to the project has told CVG.

The exciting switch to the 18th century conflict will mark the series' 'biggest instalment yet', according to Ubisoft, and our insider indicates the game will be publicly showcased before the end of the company's fiscal year on March 31.

The American setting was first hinted in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood's 'Da Vinci Disappearance' DLC, which drip-fed players a set of coordinates leading to New York state, USA.

Another hint featured in the ending of latest series entry, Revelations, when a futuristic globe hovered over the US (pictured).

Perhaps the biggest indication though came late last year, when a Ubisoft survey asked fans where they'd like to see Assassin's Creed go next. The options included, "The confrontation between British colonists and native Americans during The American Revolution."

The setting of course opens up all kinds of historical crossover possibilities for the series, including encounters with George Washington, who according to Assassin's Creed lore is in possession of an Apple of Eden.

We've contacted Ubisoft for comment.
