Syrian army retakes Homs; terrorists flee

The Syrian army took full control last night of the rebel Baba Amr neighbourhood in the city of Homs which had been pounded for 27 straight days by artillery and tanks, a security official said.

"The Syrian army controls all of Baba Amr. The last pockets of resistance have fallen," the security official in Damascus told AFP.

Witnesses spoke of buildings shaking across Homs under a final artillery bombardment before infantry and tanks moved in, with soldiers combing the area from house to house.

An unnamed Syrian government official had earlier said Baba Amr, home to 100,000 people, would be "cleaned" within hours.

a friend from Homs telling me that the Army is currently establishing security checkpoints and apparently, there are some soldiers sent for a mission to kill/capture the rest of the terrorists in nearby villages.

time for Syrian people to live in peace, hopefully.

What a shame. I guess Syria will have to go without freedom for now. One day they'll get it. Unless Russia and China fuck it up again.

This post confuses me. I thought we were rooting for these guys...? Aren't we calling them rebels, insurgents and such? I don't think I have ever seen them described as terrorists.

I'd hardly root for the mass-murdering Syrian army, in any case.

I agree, but remember that Gaf is not quite as hive minded as some would believe.

Still, thread backfire incoming big time...

Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for a religious, political or, ideological goal; and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (civilians).
So your title is wrong: Syrian terrorists conquer Homs, Rebels flee.

rooting? Is this a party? there are people killed daily because of these terrorist. Damascus were bombed multiple times by AlQaeda/FSA. I'm glad they cleansed the area of their presence, at least the people in syria won't live in a nightmare anymore.

Beside, The Syrian Army is doing its job and the USG wanted to actually work with "mass-murdering" army.

How incredibly biased it is.
How come you're justifying the presence of outlawed armed groups?

I'm not really so much describing gaf with the pronoun "we" in my post as I am referring to "decent people in general." Didn't mean to imply that the hivemind has already established it's opinion and that's that.

edit: this is such a lame troll thread, I'm not sure why I'm bothering with civility. I'm out.

Jeez

Hillary Clinton urges Syrian military, businessmen to resist

Yeah what she actually says is:

"The longer you support the regime's campaign of violence against your brothers and sisters, the more it will stain your honor. If you refuse, however, to prop up the regime or take part in attacks on your fellow citizens, your countrymen and women will hail you as heroes,"

and

"Assad would have the Syrian people believe that it is only terrorists and extremists standing against the regime. But that is wrong,"

he's sorta right though, the country will be more stable. I just wouldn't use the same words he did, like terrorists and peaceful.

Are you insane, or just fucked up?

Eh, there are some Assad sympathizers in the west. I'm christian(well born into it at least) and some of my relatives are syrian, they fear the emergence of a democracy because that could mean reprisals due to their current affiliation with the alawites(i.e ALL CHRISTIANZ WILL DIE). They are fucking retarded, but that's another story.

Wow, you're a piece of shit.
Would you like to wake up in a neighborhood full of terrorists?

The Syrian people voted for a new more free constitution, they should solve their own issues by themselves free from foreign interference.

What's funny about this long time "uprising". the fact that it's backed by dictators in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Kid you, not.

The guy is a tyrant. A dictator. Murdering thousands of his own people.

Op you're such a scoundrel. Opinions that don't reflect the views of our corporate media aren't welcome here.

OP are you serious?

Assad is the terrorist here.

How in the world can you call these people who have been suppressed for years terrorists?

The framing of an argument is everything sometimes. I call this a troll thread because regardless of whether or not the op is sincere - and I suppose he is - he cannot possibly have expected a reasoned discussion based on his title and first post.
