I'm up for playing Big 2 or Mahjong. Used to play it with my family all the time after dinner. I barely remember how to play now and I sucked as well <_<

Daily Lives of High School Boys 12

NOOOOoooooooooo! This can't end.... At least, the second season is confirmed. Right?

Loved the Ringo-chan scene. Loved the sausage scene.

I thought that the first few episodes were the best. The vomiting, the scary stories, the crossdressing. Still consistently good though and almost no recycling of jokes. Great end to a great series.

I'm seriously considering watching Gintama to fill in the void. I remember watching like 3 episodes of Gintama some time ago and it wasn't that great. Does it get better later on?

She had
her moments where she was free of all the BS though, like the relatively drama-free heart to heart she had with Ryuuji on the camping trip. I can definitely agree in saying that she wasn't structured as well as she could have been, given that they had already all the pieces in place, but they did her well enou--No. As swiftly as they did it, they covered enough facets to sell her as something more than a caricature with me.

I don't think Minori was really bipolar, it seems like her whole deal was that she ignores problems she feels she can't deal with even at the expense of others. Consider that she liked Ryuuji from the very start and didn't make a move because of Taiga, and yet when (in)directly prompted from Ryuuji's advance twice, she gave a wishy washy non-committal reply each time (the second being worse of course because of the circumstances) and furthermore tried to pretend nothing ever happened which of course made things worse. It wasn't until the chocolate scene when she figured out what was actually going on when she said 'to hell with it' and took direct action to finally resolve the situation with no more games, including confessing that she liked Ryuuji all along and explaining why she did what she did. That was the climax of her character arc.
Upon further reflection, especially of the
outing in Ami's penthouse/villa
I agree with these assessments. For a while I had an overwhelming suspicion that
Minori had friendzoned Ryuuji
up until the final episodes. I think it was just the
Cultural Festival arc that bothered me the most. Minori just becomes Gloomy Sadgirl when Ryuuji talks positively about Taiga's father and the first thing I was thinking was, "MINORI, Y U NO TELL RYUUJI THE TRUTH (about Taiga's father).

You might as well watch a real karuta tournament at that point.
I've tried to apply the Chihayafuru soundtrack to some of the karuta matches on YouTube. It doesn't pack the same oomph (for obvious reasons) but I enjoyed myself.

I love the OST to Chihayafuru. I hope there's an OST album on sale somewhere.

Yes, and it's way better than Daily Lives. Watch episode 25 or 79 if you need convincing.

"That's not saying much." :MonocleGangAnimeGaf

Anyhow, I will be using this hiatus to finally touch on Gintama eventually. Seeing some of the screencaps you guys have been putting up, I'm looking forward!

I don't think there's a Big 2 anime. That'd just be plain weird.
Plain fuck awesome you mean. Narrated by Kaiji's narrator and written by Fukamoto. I can watch that shit the whole day.

Like he said,go watch ep 79 if you want convincing. It's quite slow in the beginning but it picks up as the episodes goes by and it's a awesome ride to the end. Look at Wonzo, he's enjoying himself.

If so, I wonder if there will be another OST (probably not) because I don't think the orchestral version of the main theme that was in the final episode is in the current OST available.

The Light of El Cantare
Exactly right. So much has happened in those three episodes, and past the first (of which the exposition is really needed to set up the entire show's rules) none of it really felt drawn out to me.

It's because the infodumps in F/Z are actually expository and establish the groundwork upon which everything in the show builds instead of being an arbitrary stream of throwaway fictional technological terms that are only relevant for the moment that they're employed in the show and only exist to give artificial depth to the science fiction.

huh? when did white fox have a bad track record wtf? have seen any of there shows?

White fox is a new studio and they already have great track record for an anime studio, they've made only 3 anime so far.

At best, their productions have been average, at worse they've been disastrous. There's no reason to be excited for anything they're doing.

Seriously. All the expository information is so crucial in that show, especially the beginning stuff. Without that, people not familiar with that particular Type-Moon-verse would have no clue what the fuck is happening. The concept is way foreign enough (and totally cool) that it needs it (and i'm glad it got it).

I mean seriously, why are people like King Arthur and Gilgamesh in (kinda present-day) Japan? Without any of that info, everyone would seriously have no idea what the hell was going on. Not to mention almost all the major players are established and fleshed out with a personality, and let their tactics and desires further what kind of people they each are.

If so, I wonder if there will be another OST (probably not) because I don't think the orchestral version of the main theme that was in the final episode is in the current OST available.

Maybe this? It said it released (the second one) on the 28th. (I haven't watched the show yet).

Ive heard 47 and 49. How many is it? and how the fuck are we supposed to keep track of that many characters? I couldn't keep up with Negima's.

Oh and Jorgunmand looks like it should have been done by Madhouse.

I don't really think 'Madhouse' when I think 'great action show'. That's not really their speciality. Surely you'd want to lean towards someone like BONES?

Even if Bones was adapting the best source material with the best staff, I still wouldn't have faith that they could produce a good work these days.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Cowboy Bebop was totally slice of life.

If we ignore, for a moment, that 'slice of life' isn't a particularly well defined genre I think it's worth pointing out that most shows which have been called 'slice of life' don't really feature drama or action on a regular basis. Cowby Bebop is an episodic show which crosses over a few genre lines, but I don't think I've ever heard it described in those terms because they aren't appropriate.

I don't think it's about action in this case, but rather style and subject matter. The sort of show this seems to be leans more towards Madhouse productions like Gungrave and Black Lagoon. BONES doesn't really have a lot of experience in this field either.

But this point is irrelevant since everyone who is worth anything is bailing out of Madhouse! Hoho!

But they're deadhouse.

Dammit, you got an edit in before I could finish my comment.

Yep, that's it. Here's the VGMdb entries for the first and second volumes, if anyone's curious.
Chihayafuru Original Soundtrack & Character Song Album 1
Chihayafuru Original Soundtrack & Character Song Album 2
Thank you both!

The orchestral version of the theme (as played in Episode 25) seems to be Karuta to Tomo ni, #23 on the second album...

Here come the manly tears.

Edit: That's some weird cover art, particularly the placement of Chihaya's hand relative to Arata's throat.

meh. I'm just waiting for the sequel focusing on Remon's 'job'.
Why? It's just a fine "side story" in the series which works because it's not really covered in too much detail. If a show has mysteries, like in LOST, these elements work better when they aren't explained in detail to the audience because that makes them less interesting.

I am rather interested to see what mappa comes up with. the only problem with these spinoff studios is that they often harbor the same staff and problems that led to the demise of the former.

Well let's just hope Mappa doesn't hand Koike millions of dollars and tell him to go nuts.

What about Studio Chizu?

Chizu has Hosoda. It automatically wins.

Also, we're probably forgetting one difference between Mappa/Chizu and Madhouse is the NTV money. Mappa might not get to do off the wall money losers like Chihayafuru if they can't find a sucker benefactor like NTV to fund it.
