How am I meant to play Crysis 2?

lol,but yeah 100 post per page need to be the default setting.

You could change it, sometimes ago, even on normal accounts, but i personally prefer 50 per page, especially when i browse Screenshot thread very often :P

So new page [for everyone now] and new gif :)

Is that a book depository? :0

I find this interesting, as a lot of the complaints from Crysis 1 fans on Crysis 2's release were that player choice was drastically reduced. Yet it seems for some players, the variety of playstyles that can be supported can be overwhelming. Perhaps the complaints were directed at the level design?

But to address the OP, if you love to stealth then that's the path you should choose - it's every bit as "right" as every other playstyle. A lot of the charm is challenging yourself and switching up your play. You COULD stealth past every enemy, but perhaps that's not as rewarding as attempting to kill every enemy in the level without alerting the AI. You could also run and gun, power jumping over everything and killing enemies with physics objects. Once you feel comfortable with the mechanics you can pretty much execute each area however you want to.

I just finished Crysis 2 on Veteran last night. Such a fun game, and OMFG at the graphics in the 2nd half of the game. Good lord.

It's a bit too easy on Veteran, though. Post Human Warrior is probably more fun + challenging. I can't wait for Crysis 3.

Looking at vids/pics of Crysis 2 on ultra makes me think that that's all I want for next gen. Those effects at 1080p, proper AA (not the ghosting TAA used in C2), good IQ, solid framerate, and better AI would be pretty much perfect.

Played this game for a bit last night and it started to click for me.

My first playthrough was almost entirely stealth, and while it worked like a charm I felt like I was skipping some of the game's most fun bits at times. This second playthrough is all about playing Crysis 2 as a straight up shooter, only this one happens to have a few different panic buttons: Maximum armor in case of grenade threat, nearby explosive containers, or when you just need to mow down a city street full of enemies with a heavy MG. Stealth for when you've bitten off more that you can chew and need to reach some cover to rest for a spell, etc.

It works. It works pretty damn well, as its forced me to go from playing at a slower methodical pace to instead relying upon speed, aggression, dirty tricks and acrobatic jumps. Its an entirely different rhythm and experience that just makes me love the game that much more.

I love just being able to mix it up and go wild or keep it quiet whenever I feel like it in Crysis 2. The fragility of the suit in 1 never let me do that. Cloak can be super overpowered though. My Superhuman run through was literally me walking through the whole game barely firing a shot.

Mobility Enhance+Nanorecharge+Stealth Enhance is so broken.

It is truly glorious. I mean, Battlefield 3 looks amazing, but Crysis 2 is just slightly more jawdropping. It is unbelievable to think that real time graphics look as good as they do in the 2nd half of the game.

Yeah, that combo is so broken. Once I unlocked all of that, I was godly. You can run so far in cloak mode with that combo LOL. I did the whole last level with that, only coming out of cloak to kill the cloaked Ceph.

As stunning as Crysis is on max, it suffers from the same problem as BF3 at times: bad art direction. It's nothing quite as crippling as the horrible lens flare and dirt on the camera like in BF3, but you can be blinded by so many surfaces. The bloom is really bad. Trash bags (the yellow ones) were especially bad for this, I found.

Those night levels though... Jesus fucking christ.

Night levels in Crysis 2 were amazing, oh god.

I would love to, if it weren't for all the dumbass QTE's.

Yup with the HUD hidden, it can be annoying; doubly so since you can no longer add the bind command to the autoexec and as a result, can't assign "hud_hide" to a key.

I ended up making 2 keyboard macros that open the command console, type out "hud_hide 1" or "hud_hide 0" and then close the console. Kinda kludgey but it's quick.

Yea but the difference in Crysis is that the game is sooo tweakable so if you don't like the bloom (don't blame ya), you can tweak it away.

You can in the first version of the game on PC, r_glow is the command, but they went and blocked it off in later versions. Stupid. I think they tweaked the amount of it in later versions, though. The lens flares don't seem as pronounced as I remember.

I actually got this for cheap on the 360 from gamefly a while ago, but never got around to playing it. I have since built a new PC (although kept my old GPU), so I want to know if it's worth getting the PC version and playing that instead. Specs:

i5 2500k
GTX 465 1gb
8GB RAM

edit: nothing overclocked

Try these 2:

r_HDRBloomMul
r_HDRBrightLevel

They still work in the command console and autoexec. I have the first cvar set at 0.2 and the second at 0.4.

Another tip is that if you have MaldoHD v3.0 installed, you can tweak almost any cvar by altering the cvargroups directly like we did in the early days of Crysis 1. They're located in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis 2\Mods\MaLDoHDv3\gamecrysis2\Config\CVarGroups

Really? In the original any action you took would immediately disable stealth. At least in Crysis 2 you could squeeze off a couple rounds without draining energy. There were a lot of hit and run tactics necessary in the first game. It worked OK, but I always thought it could have been better.

I was actually referring to how it seems much easier for soldiers to detect you while in cloak in Crysis 2. Not the fact that you can pretty much abuse its ability to allow you to pop off shots while cloaked when fighting against the human enemies and totally dominate them. Even with that capability I still found myself employing a great deal of hit and run tactics since I only played the game on the harder difficulties. I assume just going balls out and using armor to john rambo it up works better on normal.

Oh and firing while cloaked does drain energy, just a little bit with each shot while using a silenced weapon. The pistol drains the least bit of energy when firing while cloaked however.

The design of the suit in the first game worked better for advanced tactics imo. In Crysis 1 I was zipping around popping off headshots and throwing people through shacks and doing all kinds of awesome shit while taking little damage most of the time(naturally I played with more restraint on Delta due to being more squishy, and the fact that I'm not a high level enough player to do those kinds of things on that difficulty).

Crysis 2 just doesn't have the same capability for me.

Eh, speed mode as present in Crysis 1 wasn't really necessary for the level design in Crysis 2.

Unfortunately I found myself feeling differently about that. The way speed was directly keyed into sprinting made things less convenient for me. I prefer having complete control over when speed activates. I would rather not waste suit energy when sprinting.

Crysis 2 feels more like the game designers lend more of a leading hand for most of the game than original. In 80% of Crysis 1's gameplay scenarios I felt like I had much more freedom to approach my objectives and combat situations more effectively and strategically, both because of the suit and the level design.

Crysis 2 is an amazing game imo, but I feel like it took a few unnecessary steps backwards. It's biggest achievement was making the aliens actually fun to fight. I did enjoy the greater sense of physicality as well.

EDIT: I also feel like I should mention that I didn't appreciate the unskippable tutorials and ingame cutscenes.

Well I finished the game and wow it just felt garbage to me. There were a few occasions where I was having fun jumping around killing people but in the end I just cloaked passed everyone and went to the end.

I think I'll replay it again and just go balls to the walls on everything. I did feel like I missed out on the whole point of the game but I really did just want to get the game finished.

I loved this game, played through it 3 or 4 times at least. I even liked the story believe it or not, although they should let you skip cutscenes on subsequent play throughs.

Wish C3 would just go ahead and announce itself soon.
